    - This is my review of the Spyderco UKPK Slip Joint Folder in S110V steel. This is an amazing little knife, quickly becoming one of my all time favorites. I talk about what this knife is, who it's for, and then dive into my main compliment for this knife, which happens to be an argument against the Delica 4 as a value proposition, and use the whole video to illustrate this point via the UKPK, as well as a few other great great knives in the same price category to show value options and size comparisons.

I bought the same S110v UKPK several months ago. Well, what a gem of a slipjoint. The steel keeps it's edge and returns with a touch up on a 1k stone and a short strop. A good review mate.

Great review. I have very similar thoughts for an edc knife. Carried a delica 3 for years until I ran over it with the lawn mower. That started a long search for the perfect replacement. i eventually settled on a caly3 c.f./zdp189 for years and loved the form and wire pocket clip but it's on the heavy side compared to the delica. Found the Salt 1 which is identical to the old delica3 having the better pocket clip design than the delica4. I can't stand the delica4 pocket clip with 3 screws. Now that the salt2 uses the same 3 screw clip I'm still searching for the perfect edc. Stayed away from the ukpk because of the slip joint but love the size, weight, blade and handle shape and wire pocket clip. Its like a light weight caly3 with better grip. Due to your video and a couple more on TH-cam I finally ordered a ukpk in s110v. No doubt I'll love it.

Good review Jon, thank you. I'm one of those people that normally stay away from slip joints, but you brought up a few valid points that make me rethink my stance. You're right about this being a better value that the Delica. Right out of the gate, you have to buy an aftermarket clip for the Delica (if you want deep carry). The UKPK has better steel and that awesome wire clip.

Hey dude thanks for watching! Yes! I think this is just an astonishing value. I also think it really sort of cannibalizes the Delica and that size/price range. I'd like to see Spyderco upgrade the default steel on the Delica to something much better than VG10. Hell I think CTS-XHP would be a super solid choice! Cold Steel is producing the best iteration of XHP I have seen so far in Quality knives that fall in the $60-$100 range. A change like this could really revitalize the Delica and the sales of it for Spyderco. There are just SO SO many other high value options coming out from many great manufacturers right now!

Great review, I totally agree with you about all the points you mention,. The weight is fantastic, as is the finger choil,,,.. The main thing for us guys, is that this is just about the only one handed opening and closing knife, of decent quality available on the market today.. (that we can carry)... Sorry,, did I mention, I live in West Yorkshire, in England, (UK)
,, ha ha,,, anyway, Sal designed this for us, and I for one, am so glad he did.. Imho, this is the only contestant in the edc battle... Keep up the good work buddy,,,

budgetbugout refers to the delica as "overrated." I would agree with that assessment as well. You're correct, delica has v10 which is not a premium steel anymore, no forward finger choill, no deep carry clip. I have the ukpk with s30v and g10 handles, and it's my favorite spyderco.

I agree with all of that. Not that I don't like the Delica, there are just SO many other high value options coming out from other manufacturers as well as Spyderco themselves. Thanks for watching!

Great video. Subbed. I just got mine today, we really don't have many knife restrictions in Pennsylvania, no autos, gravity knives or "sword canes," that's it, you can pretty much carry anything you want here. I have many, many knives, but I just wanted an easy knife to cut with-- that's not too scary looking-- and then to throw back in my pocket, without having to take an extra step to mess with any kind of lock at all. The fact that there's less of any legal question because the blade ia sub 3" and non-locking is also a nice plus. I am a big fan of the Delica 4, but you're right, even if it's especially well made, it costs way too much for VG10. I paid more for the ZDP-189 version but that was more appropriate a price for the steel upgrade. Spyderco will not lower a price. The S35VN Native 5's were bumped down to S30V across the board (😠) for base models, and the price stayed the same. S110V for $80 is an absolute steal, especially when S30V is selling for over $100 on everything. The ergonomics are great, you can take it apart to maintain it, the FRN handle has come a long way from the cheap, plastic-y stuff it used to be, and the fit, finish and overall hand-feel just say quality. Another big bonus you get when you buy Spyderco is the service backing. If this knife goes dull (most of my Spydercos are purposefully more resiliant steels), I send it back and I get a superb factory edge put right back on it for the life of the knife. In my mind, better steel gives me more longevity and I don't have to worry about trying to sharpen the hard steel without ruining it. This is also not a small blade, I was expecting smaller, but my Native 5 and Cat are both smaller and very capable. I still doubt these are legal in Chicago and New York City because of the blade length and one-handed opening method, and in Philadelphia you are not supposed to have ANY knife; but then again Philadelphia has just surpassed the Chicago homicide rate, and the City's Draconian knife laws just prove the stupidity of their prioritization where common-sense legislation is concerned so I am not worried about being arrested for carrying this knife. Apologies for the rambling.I liked your video, from one Knife Guy to another, it was very well thought out, informative, it's clear you know what you are talking about and should have way more subscribers than you do. I'm going to look at your others. 🤘🤙✌️👌👍

Wanted to try LC200N and the ukpk was the cheapest in it. Great knife, not just as a budget novel steel platform, but an office carry. Carried a GEC 71 for a lot of the year so the ukpk is much easier one handed open and close than that was.

Spyderco native 5 in frn way better than the delica. Have the chaparral in frn as well but lock back is a little slender on the chaparral and is harder to close over the native 5. Great review

A delica with a finger choil is called Byrd Meadowhawk 2. Too bad it's got the weird hole and 8cr13mov steel

    Another great review Jon!
Have you had any experience with the ukpk developing scratches around the area where 'spyderco cpm s110v' is engraved?
I own a ukpk in bd1 and it developed circular scratches from opening and closing rather quickly.
I'd like to pull the trigger on the s110v model but they are very expensive over here in Germany. Hence I'd like to make sure that the knife stays sort of sexy-lookin' for as long as possible, if you know what I mean ;)
    Cheers,
    Marcel

A locking but more expensive knife would be the Spyderco chaparral

Chaparral is now in FRN and the great XHP steel for $80! May be the new best value small frn knife spyderco makes in my book! Thanks for watching as always howard!

Ranger Jon, Do you think the Chaparral FRN with the XHP steel and the Urban Leaf K390 are pretty much covering the very same ground functionally and in the super lightweight carry sense? I am having ergonomic issues with a new (as in, returnable) Sage 1 -- my hand, I guess -- and I am thinking about swapping out the Sage for the carbon fiber clad version of the Chaparral with the dealer for a similar more casual-dressy gentlemen's carry effect in CF weave + bright liners...
...but I worry about splurging on too much duplication; whereas the larger Sage plainly complements. Love the whole idea of K390 and its practical characteristics so far on the super handy Urban, though, so that one isn't going anywhere. Advice?!
      Thank you.

I would say the Chap covers an even lighter and slimmer carry segment than the Urban. I REALLY love the Urban. I get a full 4 finger grip on it and for that size category I really enjoy the extra solidity that it has over the Chap. But keep it mind it is all subtle differences! The Chap is just extremely thin compared to anything out there, even the Urban. The Urban is definitely a small knife, but its got some heft for it's size which I like. So, on a very subtle level I think the knives cover different carry segments in a similar size range, however if $$$ is an issue I would just pick one. K390 has been absolutely killer in my experience so far and doesn't rust as readily as folks would have you beleive. However I'd say for super lightweight and slimline carry, the FRN Chap is unbeatable. It really is just a wafer thin and light knife. Hope that answered your question! Thanks for watching!
