That this movie didn't win an Oscar for best editing is a crime. Makes me feel like I got hit with a wet frying pan. Think I'll go make some special java or maybe some soup.
I saw this when it came out. Laughed my tail off. I still laugh it off when I watch it. To me it’s a classic. I love how then blend in the old noir movie scenes.
Saw this in the theater in Geneva, NY in 1982, while stationed at Seneca Army Depot. In the years since, I've seen every classic movie used in it on TCM. Great stuff. Classic Steve Martin.

My favorite Steve Martin movie ever! Saw it at the theater when it came out and laughed my butt off, then added it to our video collection a couple of years later. =)
This is in my top five favourite Steve Martin films. I saw it back in the 80's. Even though at the time I hadn't seen any of the classic films he's so cleverly integrated into it didn't lessen the humor. The Siskel and Ebert review was not very kind and thought that it was just a gimmick that wears thin quickly. I totally disagree and enjoy it from beginning to end. Sadly we never got the sequel, Rigby Reardon and the Case of the Corpse With the Really Big Tits. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The brilliant"Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" was from the era when Steve Martin made clever, original comedies (The Jerk, The Man with Two Brains, etc) before he seemed to sell out for bigger paychecks and rom-com dross like "Father of the Bride".
still one of the funniest movies of all time
Yeah okay
Agreed - it's silly and hilarious

"Can I use her underwear to make soup?" LMFAO
Its type of humor is very niche, but for those who get it, it's very funny. The bit where he makes his "special" coffee always gets me.
"You could use a cup of my special java."

Lana Turner in one of the funniest movies I've ever seen - Carl Reiner + Steve Martin = comedy gold, Jerry! gold!
I watched 2 videos of this, and the whole time I thought it was Harrison Ford... lmfao
Steve Martin could probably read me the phone book and I would laugh.
This kind of worship is the reason he stopped stand up comedy.
@Zodroo_Tint well excuuuuse me.
