- After an argument with her husband, Elizabeth (Claire Foy) goes to Balmoral alone. Meanwhile, across town, Macmillan (Anton Lesser) attends a performance of Beyond The Fringe, which does him no favors, although he seems to enjoy it at first - until the performers notice him in the audience and mock him directly to his face. At the same time, Stephen Ward (Richard Lintern), a society osteopath, nearly incites a riot when he is brought in for his trial and receives a harsh lecture from the prosecutors - a turn of events that proves devastating, as he commits suicide before the jury returns a verdict.

Fascinating use of synchronicity in this scene...
I also like that her seat on the train is backward facing
The way this was edited, you'd think QE2 had Ward assassinated to silence him with whatever secrets about Phillip he may or may not have known.
MacMillan, not McMillan
Such a powerful scene! However, I don't see it as the queen was running away from anything. She was supposed to be safeguarding her pregnancy and taking it easy...but she couldn't do that because the men in her life had failed her and their country so profoundly. I'm glad she took some time for herself as she desperately needed it!
And I like the scene before this too! Otherwise, I wouldn't of known what "apposite" means! LOL! ð
Masterpiece of a scene.
Harold Macmillan, then aka 'Supermac' later Earl of Stockton; neither McMillan nor MacMillan!
âPeople have never had it so good !â
HM went to Scotland on a kind of sabbatical as her doctors advised . It had to do with her age when pregnant with Prince Edward.
um....I thought British Courts don't use gavels...
No Commonwealth Country uses gavels nor it's head England. They must of added it in either because they didn't do any research or to make it resonate with people from the United States they added the gavel.
Well spotted.
