      I never understood the breaking in half thing. All you're doing is disconnecting the screen, the data is still on the main board. I would say crushing the board with a rock would do a better job.

      I work in operations for one of the carriers. If a LEO has a warrant we can locate you, track you in real time, and go back over a given time period and see where you've been. Also, if the warrant request it, we can provide a transcript of your calls, text, and web sites you've been on. If you use att or Verizon, you don't have privacy. Here is a little trick. Get two cell phones on different carriers. Take one phone and put in a location where it can stay on the charger. Forward that cell to a land line, and forward the land line to the second cell phone. Give the number to the first cell out for someone to call you on. Now if a Leo gets your number and a warrant, for someone like me to do a gps trace, gps track, or gps locate, it will only show where that first cell is at.

    As a software developer, this is hilarious that people think these phones aren’t traceable. Just on a basic level a simple look up of a phone that pinged near the same location would connect your smart phone to a trap phone. Also, if the receiver has a smart phone it would list all details of the originating caller that could then be traced back to video of the original purchase of the burner phone. I always laugh when drug dealers post ig photos with a burner phone. Not even realizing that the photo itself contains meta data that links directly to their exact location at the time of the photo.

    In Australia, after buying any new pre-paid phone with free SIM, or installing any new SIM into any existing phone, you have to "activate" the SIM with its telco with all validated ID checks before you can make even 1 phone call. They ask the IMEI number too. The only number you can initially call is the Telco activation number.

I didn't get a chance to look closer as I couldn't get a sales person's attention as it was before 8AM. Now I was thinking of getting several ones so as not to let out the number of my smart phone.

    I use a burner just because it's prepaid. I have a 'smart phone' that isn't activated as a phone - just for 'data' when I'm logged into wifi. I never need to worry about an app running up data charges - because I have no data account. I can still use offline maps for navigation, track my cycling and hiking with a gps fitness tracing app, message people when I'm near a wifi hotspot - plenty to be found. And my phone is just a phone - best of both worlds.

    I've had one for 4 years, just for when I have to enter a number on a website. I ordered something online from a reputable store, and within a week I was getting sales calls on my regular phone. I went and bought a phone with 100 free minutes, charged it and turned it off and tossed it into my desk drawer, each month I call 411 or something to keep it active. I buy a ten-dollar card twice a year. Then I changed my cell phone number and that was that. With so many data breaches you never know who has your phone number.

    I don't know in America, but in most of Europe, after the terrorist attacks in Spain and UK, they passed a SIM Card Registration policy, so now you need to provide a valid ID to purchase a prepaid SIM card or prepaid phone. And for those who already had one, they were given a number of weeks to register the owner, if they failed to do so, the SIM cards were deactivated.

      Ok, your mate needs something the government doesn't approve of, ok fine but he can't get said something because he's a cripple or a crip, you choose?
      Boom, so you get a burner, not for You, you're a stand up bloke that helps old ladies across the street and pays their taxes.
      Ok bang, the pigs are onto your line for your shady business but you don't care because there's no way to trace your burner and you only turn it on when you need to collect something for your crippled crip friend.
      Bada Bing, you like the anonymity, the fact you can say what you want without the fear your phone has been tapped so you keep the burner for other businesses, wheel and deals, kills and grills, hits and quits, etc.
      You just use a new SIM card put that in your burner and you have become a new man.

    "A guy had 2 burner phones and they used the phones to triangulate his position" - Horseshit. Not the way cellular works at all. There would be no need to do this anyways, since the towers the phones are connected to know exactly where the phone is anyway since they "triangulate" automatically.

    • @spiritualopportunism4585
      @spiritualopportunism4585 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The difference is yes you can track any one phone with signal triangulation, but if you don't know what phone the bad guy has, then you don't know... Unless he has a known phone (Maybe a planted device?) with him and his new burner together. Even if he finds the plant, you now know which burner is his and can follow that instead.
