    just so everyone is aware. I followed this video along, used the 90° weld on Bungs so the ecu doesn't trigger check engine light. worked like a charm and the car is so much more fun to drive. the only thing I recommend Andre the Victor reinz gaskets for the headers. I've had them checked for leaks and they've held up great 30k miles so far.

    great vid, but someone explain to me one thing...when car runs closed loop, it means ECU reads preCat O2 sensors and adjusts fuel trims accordingly, now when position of O2 sensors are far away from exhaust ports (also from factory placement) and plus you did some extenders O2 readings will be totally messed up, so how much will this affect Fuel Trims?? could not ECU react on incorrect reading due to Closed loop situation and mess up Air/Fuel mixture? u will run ether Rich or Lean...No? someone give me answer on this if u have more information, thanks.

    • @anotherbiker6319
      @anotherbiker6319 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the late response, here’s my explanation: The ECU only uses the pre cat O2 sensors to adjust fuel and air mixture, not the post cat. The extenders used in the videos were used ONLY on the post cat sensors, which does not affect the ECU’s readings. The position of the sensors doesn’t matter for readings, but having extenders will affect it, which is why you only use them on post cat sensors. Fuel/Air mix can still get slightly messed up with new headers so it’s a good idea to get a stage one tune.

    Thanks for your DIY, it helps me to do it for my E46 325CI. But for me, the 90° extender can't pass with the heat shield for the nearest header. I should have cut the riser as you. Instead, I've remove the secondary O2 sensor and screw a cap. The secondary O2 sensor is plugged but is just maintained in the engine bay. No CELL at all. Important : buy OEM's gasket instead of those supplied (for top and bottom) otherwise guaranteed leaks.

    So for the welding of the o2 sensor bung, why couldn't you use a threaded one and thread into the existing bung on the header?

      +Jeffrey Kersten Did he ever say where he lives? You might be out of luck living there since they check for smog. Where I live you pull into the inspection booth, hit your horn, flash your lights, hit the brakes, and he pulls any drum brakes to check the pads (on one wheel). That is it. So here you can pretty much do what ever you want as long as it isn't loud enough to get their attention. OH but you can't have earplugs hanging from the rear mirror that is a fail.

    Just saw it right now didn't realize your ig was linked, thanks so much!
    So those pre threaded bung holes on the front / rear of the eBay headers, you only used the front and didn't use the rear side correct? The pre threaded spot that was already there? Or did you actually drill/weld a new hole as far back as you could? Also did you have enough room with the o2 sensor length or did you have to buy a longer extended o2 sensor? Thanks !

    • @ZentRose
      @ZentRose  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      e46orozco I used the holes they put on there. I just cut off the bung for one of them. Yes I had enough room for stock length O2s but I did have to zip tie the wire of one of the O2 sensors so that it would not be resting on the header.

    I had these headers put in years ago and left the 02 sensors out. Are the 02 sensor at a spot where you could still change one out if it failed without pulling the whole header out? I just bought the extenders after watching this video and I want to stick my 02's in to get rid of the annoying engine light.

    • @ZentRose

    I know this is a little old but you appear to have the exact same headers i bought for my 330Ci. Did you have an issue with the pre-cat o2 sensors? I had to use a 90 degree adapter and im wondering if that pulled the sensor out of the flow enough to cause the car to bog occasionally due to lack of sensing and adjustments in AFR. Also, did yours not quite reach the stock exhaust flanges?

      +TwistedCrooks Oh for some reason I thought you were asking about inspections. I'm not sure if a shop would do it because I am pretty sure tampeing with the O2 sensors are illegal. It can't hurt to ask them though. You can also get a tuning chip which will remove the CEL light.

    Awesome video! How many of those 90 degree things did you use? Was it one on each header? Or just the rear header? How long did it take you I wish you could show how you did it step by step...

    • @ZentRose
      @ZentRose  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2 of the 90 degree pieces. One on each header. I am going to post a pic on the E46 forum to show what it looks like installed.
      It took me a good six hours of tinkering because I had to figure out how to get the damn things to fit. If I did it on someone else's car it would be very quick now. Probably 3-4 hours taking my time.
      I didn't think people would watch this. I will make more detailed videos when I build the race exhaust, gut the car, and cage the car :)

      Dependimg on your mileage it could be your transmission fliud, but unless its leaking or someone tampered with the level of the fluid thats probably not it. A good way to tell if it is your pilot bearing is bad is when you are going into first gear, there is ocasionally a clunking sound.

Bought the car 3 1/2 years ago with 83k and has now about 97k. Do you think I have to many miles to add headers? I must admit, my car pulls nice and the only repairs I've done are fuel pump, alternator and salmon relay. I've heard bad shiit on the forums about ebay headers. They don't line up, they don't last, and my favorite...If you can't afford a real set of headers...supersprint , Dinan etc.. then you shouldn't own an M3. Are they worth it? Hard to install? I can't weld but I'm very handy, did the alternator and fuel pump myself. Or should I buy the Agency Power headers for$1,000. What do you think? Also, do you think a more expensive set of headers will sound better than the ebay one's? Thanks in advance for your imput

      i have a m3. dont buy to cheap for m engines. i spent over a k on my coilovers and more on my wheels. i plan to spend 1-2k for headers but i have 101k on so i might just wait

    Hey is there any chance that you could take a picture of your non fouler modification that you did in more depth? Like a pic so i can cut and weld it myself and have my mechanic then put it on for me, id appreciate it.
    Cause bought the same exact headers and the same exact CEL fix, (the two 90 degree elbow extension mod.)
    And I just want to make sure exactly where to cut and weld the extension on that way I can just have it all ready to go for my mechanic to put it straight on my car. I would seriously thank you so much I'm on e46 fanatics and everywhere I go people don't provide photos of that type of Cel type mod. Everyone uses the basic spark plug fouler mod which doesn't really work because it doesn't bend away from the exhaust fumes like the 90 degree one does. Thanks!

    • @ZentRose
      @ZentRose  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Gidenkidenk They held with no leaks so far. They are a great bargain but the biggest challenge is the install.

      +ZentRose Thanks for the input! Not particularly worried about that but everyone says its the best mod you can get, yet so few have. They're going on after I save up enough for subframe bushings, motor mounts and a sway bar

    Hey great video, i'm thinking of putting these on my e83 x3 (I know, who would do that to an x3?) Anyways I was just curious what year of e46 you have, our cars are built on the same chassis and we both share the same engine/transmission. Only reason I ask about the year is because some people on the forums claim that moving the o2 sensors away from the flow of exhaust will still trigger a cel. Thanks in advance for the reply!

    • @ZentRose
      @ZentRose  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      onslot72 This is a 2001 330ci. I've been daily driving it with no check engine light. Also the emissions obd2 test is clear.
      Can you share which years are having the problem? Thank you.

      +Will S I don't have to worry about rust where I live but that is probably a good point. I will pull them and inspect them when smog comes around in a couple years.

      @Batmanforever6969 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ZentRose oh okay that's good. Does your car smell with the cats off? I'm thinking of getting headers because I'm running an supersprint and eisenmann setup and it will sound amazing, but I'm worried about the smell. I believe older cars tend to smell without cats. My friends frs doesn't smell without cats, but his car is new.

    • @justfasial01
      @justfasial01 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will S why would it smell?

    • @Batmanforever6969
      @Batmanforever6969 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just Faisal because the cats is what restricts the emissions the car puts out.

  • @fde4683
    @fde4683 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When i installed headers on my e 46 2001 325ci ,after installation i had no cel light and i dont think you get a cel light for putting headers , but what you get is (Service Engine Soon Light) once you give it a rev it pops out and ive read that it means that there is no cats and 02 sensor's can see that you got headers , so my car still runs fine with the headers but sometimes after a long drive if you let it idle, you can feel how engine misfiring, i think i got too much fuel going in which causes it to do so, and a smell after installed headers dDAMN you can die breathing that sht while you are idling standing still, but the car has definitely gained a lots of power especially on low and high ends , and mid range it sucks like 1500-2700 rpm engine misfiring idk what is going on and it has no pull for shtm but after 3k its like a rocket , and idk what to do so i think im gonna install after market cats in.

      damn I've never heard of the car running poorly after header install

    • @fde4683
      @fde4683 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      it runs smooth after 3k rpm
      before that feels like its misfiring and also exhaust backfiring too

    • @010FSL101
      @010FSL101 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Andrey Arkashin could you make a video? and does it just sound like misfire or does it actually misfire and sends a misfire code?

    • @fde4683
      @fde4683 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      it doesnt send the code and feels like a misfire ill make a video later and post it over here.

    • @Batmanforever6969
      @Batmanforever6969 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is exactly what happen to me. I took the headers off and the misfiring got worse. I changed the ccv and problem solved! The thing is you need to get a tune when you have headers or you will have issues with fuel injectors and other stuff if you run them long enough. So that also could be your problem. All headers give problems if ran without a tune for a certain amount of time.
