TCRs are absolutely gorgeous, simple and elegant. I’d choose a TCR over any other bike of its kind any day of the week.

Your previous reviews has driven me to order one... This review comes at the best time! I ordered a size medium TCR SL disc frame (lucky I found it); I can't wait to build my new bike. Thanks for you review!

I bought the 2021 TCR Advanced Pro 1 and couldn't be happier. Coming from a DA equipped Defy Adv SL ISP rim brake, which I thought was quick, the new TCR has been astonishing. Actually feels smoother than the Defy but, at least on Strava, is a significantly faster machine!

Beautiful bike and enviable choice of components without going overboard on price. Appreciate the honest weights, though, as you say, it really is no big deal if the bike rides well.

Outstanding review! I just built a similar bike with Shimao 105, Zipp 303 Firecrest wheels, Specialized Power saddle, Pro One tires and a Hambini race bottom bracket. Mine weighs 7.8kg. It runs flawlessly. I have 2700km on it. I could not be happier...

If you don’t mind me asking, what did it cost vs buying a stock model?
Which model would have been closest in comparison?

I’ve also got the Firecrests on mine, which suit it really well and the Hambini race. After a bit more dialling in of the riding position, went for the other day and it just felt perfect. An awesome bike!

I have a 2018 TCR Adv 2Disc. Even after 3years of riding and well over 20,000km it still makes me excited and happy every single time i get on it. It still challenges me evefy day to become fitter, leaner, stronger and faster. It feels like its alive and just wants to go fast. The faster i go, the better it seems to handle too. Just an unbelievably fun machibe to tear about the countryside on. Climbs liks a Falcon 9 and descends like an asteroid. I prefer the look of her curvier tube shapes to the new TCR designs too.

Yes I would run a lighter mechanical group set ( Ultegra or SRAM Red 22) the latter which would knock over a kilo off that build. Either way, I’d gladly ride it as is!👌

The TCR I believe has been at the pointe end of frame tech for years. After all Taiwan and Giant are the largest bike Corp, producers and have the money to prove it.
I see many new exotic bikes and see old TCR tech on them being touted as new.
I believe that the TCR Cav used at high road was arguably one of the first aero bikes because of the big square down tube and the integrated bladed seat mast as well as the thin triangle shaped seat stays. I’m obviously a big fan and have had 3 iterations of TCRs. Looking forward to my 4th upgrading to Disc.

So true. In fact, when I showed up with my new TCR, most casual riding pals (who aren't especially well-informed about new models) didn't think much of it. "Now, new bikes have aero one-piece cockpit with hidden cables." some of them said. But after a few rides, they expressed with surrpise "Wow, you're much faster. What model is that bike again?". In my mind, I would reply: "It's 2021's bike of the year, mate."

Sounds like it rides beautifully. I don't know why, but I've always had some sort of bias against Giants. Never ridden one and I know rationally there is no reason for me to feel that way. All the British (I'm in the US) cycling channels I follow, though, seem to love them. Will need to try one.

I know what you mean. Even the name doesn't really sound exciting, sophisticated or what not. It has less "cachet" as a brand. It's a conservative brand -- the Honda or Toyota of bikes. And they don't do much marketing or sponsorship, compared to other brands. But after extensive research, I listened to reason and ordered a TCR 2021 last year. Received the bike last spring and I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Great video! I watched your other TCR videos with the black ultegra model. I was able to pick up the blue one with di2 earlier this year. I agree, it is a race bike, but also feels relaxed and smooth, which is nice. You can sit up a bit more and have a nicer recovery ride. Yours looks great with the enve foundations, and the wireless etap. I am a fan of external cables, it makes it look simpler and no-nonsense. Great review!

Great channel. Thanks for the reviews and views. When are you going to review the wheels? I'm looking to decide between the ENVE foundation 45's and the Zipp 303 firecrests (I realise they have a slightly different focus - the ENVEs are supposedly better 'all arounds', and the 303FC's are more gravel and climbing focused). This is for a road/endurance/'maybe a bit of gravel' on a possible Reilly Spectre build. Thoughts very much appreciated.

Thanks for the video, David! Two questions: 1) I know you liked the BMC SLR very much, but you obviously went for this one. Did it have to do with paint job or BMC perhaps being a bit pricier? 2) I’ve seen this bike in some of your videos with the Zipp wheelset (303S?). Did you like the Zipp better? If so, why? Thanks mate!

I bought what I think was the last ever ML sized frame in the UK a few has ago. Nowhere else I Cyclestore had one so was chuffed to get one. Sadly it had a fault in the carbon on the main downtube where it had a dimple in the paintwork/frame. £1300 for a lush frame but it had to go back, so got the BOTY version instead - which is great. 5000 miles in it’s been great with my big old arse on it (100-125kg).

The tyres state min pressure of 65PSI only but this is quite high for a rider of my weight and on this rim profile. Should we be following the min tyre pressure on the Pirelli’s? Curious what you are running yours at as I assume it is even lower than me (I’m at 58psi). Ta - keep up the great content!

Hi David -- I really enjoy your videos and love this build. I am riding a last-gen TCR and still love it. I am curious what the all-up price delta might be for someone buying all the parts to replicate this custom build vs getting an off the shelf new TCR Advanced Pro 1 like you reviewed last year. I am sure one could scope it out piece by piece with all the info you provided, but just wondering if you have ballpark guesstimate already in mind that you would be willing to share. And sorry if you already shared that in one of the vids and I missed... Thanks!

If it's of any use, I did a rough price up of a Force AXS build of one of the top-end SL frames and, if everything were in stock atm, it was coming in at just under £4.5k without wheels (I already have a set I'd put on it).
I feel like I must have got something wrong though as the equivalent built bike from Giant is over £7k! That'd be some saving, even with some serious rims on it!

I have the TCR Advanced 1 disc 2021 and I have to say it's not how I imagined it to be...
The whole wheelset was built together in a wrong way I ride with it only 20km and nearly had a 50kph crash!!! Luckily my friend recognized the Wheels coming apart.
Giant did not aswer or replaced anything, had to buy a new wheelset by my own.

      @@lens.street8113 A one-of manufacturing/assembly defect I suppose. Good that you didn't get hurt.

Looks fantastic, I’m very tempted by this frame set, I had a 2018 TCR advanced pro rim brake model and while it was very fast it really used to beat me up so I sold it for a Defy. So find your comments re the new one very interesting, Is it really that much better than the previous generation ? As if so I could be tempted to trade in the defy for the new tcr. Thanks

I’ve had the same bike (2018 rim tcr) and many others. To he honest it’s also one of the more smoother race carbon frames. I would expect this to ride very similar and if you feel that’s harsh I would stay with endurance oriented frames.

i own a 2021 defy advanced and a just picked up a 2023 tcr advanced. the TCR definitely forces you into a more aero position, which i find less comfortable than the defy. but in terms of how harsh it is over bumps i find them to both be very similar. i dont feel like the TCR is any more harsh on rough roads than the defy.

@@adrianc6534 Good to know, the one I had was fitted with 25 mm tyres and I couldn’t go any bigger due to it being rim brake. The Defy however was using 28mm so I’m guessing the main difference between the two bikes was down to just the tyre width alone when it comes to poor road surfaces. The TCR was brilliant in the corners though as it felt so alive.

Nice one David, currently doing a custom build with this exact frame, Sram Force AXS, Roval Alpinist. Cant wait, your video is a right tease, thank you for your thoughts.

Hi David, great looking bike and thanks for the update. I have the 2021 Advanced Pro 1 and was thinking of putting the 700x28C tyres on, would you recommend this?

I have the same bike and recently switched to Pirelli 28s as recommended by my local. Giant store who admitted their stocks tires are rubbish. It feels super plush, noticeably better. Haven’t noticed any speed difference but well worth it I’d say.

Thanks James, I wasn’t aware you could use anything other than the Giant Gavia’s. I will look into it. Hope your enjoying your bike.

David, recently purchased a TCR pro, was curious what zip stem you’re running on yours? Thank you.

David, Did your frameset come with a normal, round headset bearing cover and spacers, or did it come with Giant's own "aero" shaped spacers/cover? I'm awaiting arrival of this frameset, and I'm trying to figure out if I need to source a headset cover/spacers for a non-Giant stem myself. Giant stems are hard to find right now, so I'm going to have to source a Zipp OS stem myself, similar to you. Thanks, and keep the good content coming!

It came with the aero spacers but I managed to get a round FSA spacer from a friend that fit. Worth checking with your local bike shop to see if they can help, they might have a box of spares

Interesting review:thx. I am riding a a 2019 tcr, ultegra di2, clincher, conti 5k 28’s, same seat, carbon stem: bars. Had a very bad speed wobble on fast descent a while back, but may have been due to low tire pressure. I’ve been tweaking my position, moved seat forward and lowered it slightly, snd lowered bars, but I still find at speed on fast descents: front end feels a little twitchy and as if it’s lifting. Do you find your front end feels rock solid at speed on descents ?

How fast are those descents? I have no such troubles with my 2018 TCR.
