    You're right. The over arching goal of Data scientists and SWEs is the same - solving problems. They may have slightly different approaches, but that's about it. Thanks for sharing! :3

      In DS you will spend your life in meetings explaining why you didn’t get anything done since the last meeting because you’ve been in another meeting before the current meeting.

    This is very interesting Emma! I've heard a lot of stories about data professionals who transition to Data Science from other fields but it's rare to hear stories about people's transition from DS to another field. Thanks for sharing!

    Very glad to hear you’re enjoying your new role. I’m about to start my first DS in a couple weeks (mix of analytics and product) and your videos helped me a lot with the interview prep, so thank you!

    I really liked your reasoning for choosing Airbnb bc I would have done the same. I’m also interested more in the engineering aspect of data science, right now I’m in a data engineer internship and I’m surprised how much more I enjoy it compared to data science.
    I like your story and I hope I can find a similar path. Thank you for sharing your story!

    Thank you for your video. It was interesting and resonated with me. Why is it that you did not transfer to the algorithms or even inference teams first? Did they not have work at the time that would have been interesting or relevant to having more technical skills? Thanks again.

    I'm so curious how you obtained such deep knowledge in AB testing? because it doesn't seem like your work in Airbnb has much to do with running AB tests. How to land on a DS job that focuses on experimentations if I don't have any chance to work on an actual test hands-on in my current job? I feel you might have some experience to share in that aspect.

    Hi Emma, would love to know if you have any learning community. I am preparing to do a career shift and learn more about coding. As I am going through the leetcode challenge, I find it quite difficult to keep up with the work and when it gets hard, I naturally give up. Would love to learn about how you stick with your plan and make your dream come true. Thank you!

    Hi Emma. Great video.
    Wanted to understand what languages/tools you used in Data Science and what additional languages/skills you needed to learn to enter Software engineering. Would be a great help if you could let me know.

    • @emma_ding
      @emma_ding  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nishant, great questions! You rightly assume an overlap between Data Science and Software Engineers, the difference is in emphasis. Engineers need to be highly skilled in a language, with some experience or knowledge of data analysis for large data sets. If you are making the move from DS to Software Engineer you'll need to seriously skill-up on your coding skills! I share my coding preferences here -> th-cam.com/video/hAqg2dlNeUc/w-d-xo.html, but it's worth considering what language is consistent with the company you are applying for. Shopify uses Ruby for example!.

    Who cares about titles, titles change often.
    Just look at the job description and skills, if your skills somewhat match demanding skills and if you like the job, just apply. Once you get the job, start burning your ass from 8 - 5 to make a bunch of share holders rich ;)

I am in a very confused state right now about whether I should look more engineering focussed MLE roles or data science roles or data engineering roles or complete switch to SE!
