Thank you so much ! I miss Imrat so much (I no longer live in St. Louis). He is an amazing man and performer, as are his sons.

@WindsOfCreation You are absolutely right,,this one has a sarod...there are so many versions...I do love the sarod though....

nshishir - Ustad Allauddin Khan played a lot of instruments but is best known for Sarod playing. Great Ustads can teach any instruments by first teaching vocals which is the way music is taught and learnt in Indian music.
Ustad Allauddin Khan is not a Sitarist rather a great Indian that could also play sitar and he taught Pandit Ravi Shankar the Sitar while his son Ustad Ali Akbar Khan stayed with Sarod. He taught Annapurna Devi(Roshanara Begum) Surbahar.

Maihar Gharana was invented/started off by Ustad Allauddin Khan sahb in the first half of the 20th century. Dhrupad is FAR older than that.

Raag dais has special effect of Darbaar effect in it.

Allauddin Khan Sahib played Sarod NOT sitar. It was one of the few he never played but knew techniques of.

Very nice play. Very nice tune, very nice melody. Is he a student of Ravi Shankr?

Wow really? Yeah sorry I'll give you credit!
I'm from the UK too, what channel was this on in the 80s? They certainly don't have TV like they used to.
You should upload the whole concert!

It's not really a song, it's an improvisation based around the guidelines of raga desh. If you search for Raga Desh, you should find a load of other improvisations that have the same flavour as this one.

Does Ustad Imrat Khansahib teach sitar anywhere? Will you let me know where his school is please? I really appreicate it. I would love to take lessons from him. Thanks again..

Yes, but wansn't ravi shankar the master of all sitar players in india? I mean he reached so much fame and recognition in the west that no other indian musician could come close, but I don't know much. Maybe I am wrong, but as far as I have heard, Ravi Shankar is considered the father of sitar in the world. Is that true?

Ustad Allaudiin Khan learnt his music from Ustad Wazir Khan who was a beenkar from Seniya gharana. Even Tansen & Swami Haridas before him use to sing Dhrupad..so no Allaudin khan didn't invent Dhrupad.

hahahaha, no disrespect meant. but undoubtedly sitar's first family, is the imdadkhani gharana, with greats like Vilayat khan, imdad khan, shahid parvez, shujaat khan etc. they dont need ravi shankar to teach teach them how to play sitar, lol

  • @sitariya

I like his surbahar more than sitar.

  • @r8rdarklord
    @r8rdarklord 16 ปีที่แล้ว

Even highest is wrong..his own master Ustad Wazir Khan was considered peerless ub tge playing of been.

nothing is dying. nothing in india has dies, and nothing will die. i appreciate your honest intentions, but let me assure you, classical music in india is more popular than ever before. north and south india produce hundreds of aspiring and gifted musicians every year. our culture is not so weak that it will be uprooted by capitalism and pop culture.

far from it. even in his maihar gharana, the great sitariya nikhil banerjee is easily peerless.ravishankar is undoubtedly the most famous, and very good indeed, but i doubt whether serious connoiseurs, think he is better than Nikhil banerjee or vilayat khan sahib.

i am nowhere near qualified to have an opinion on 'best', but Nikhil Banerjee is certainly peerless, to me, in his emotional affect. my favorite musician, in any genre.
