omg so readyyy. lana got crucified by the media for ultraviolence , they said she "glamorized" abuse, when imo an abuse victim can tell their story however they may need to, its her experience and it does a good job at emphasizing how an victim feels in the cycle of abuse. i know im glad she made this song and album bc i can relate personally and it makes me feel less alone in this experience, which is what art and music should do. Shades of cool is my #1 offf this album. the meaning, the vocals, and the guitar bridge is PERFECTION. uv is rock influenced, so yes thats why it's guitar heavy, i also love it and wish she'd do an album w this type of production again! Lou reed was actually supposed to do the vocals in the back of Brooklyn baby but he actually died shortly before they were supposed to record. pretty when you cry was freestyled and done in one take!!! amazing song, i love the guitar bridge in this one as well. i think it's interesting, a lot of abusers tell u ur "pretty when u cry" after they r the ones that made u cry, another display of the cycle of abuse and how it continues. money power glory is supposed to be satire, the media came after lana saying she was a bit of a gold digger so in this song she kinda just leans into that portrayal. fucked my way up to the top is also satire, she was criticized by ppl saying she slept w ppl to get famous, which didn't happen. and also she makes a dig at Lorde after Lorde came for her, "mimicking me is a fuckin bore, to me" was meant for Lorde. the other woman, is a cover, original by nina simone. black beauty is ab her not being able to help/change her depressed partner, everytime i listen to it it sounds like she's talking directly to me. florida kilos is one of my favs as well, her talking ab coke in such a poetic way is so funny to me; "white lines pretty daddy go skiing, u snort it like a champ like the winter were not in" fire line. can't wait for the next albumsss!!

I'm so happy you included is this happiness ❤ if you're interested there's another track that was only included in a special version of the album in a few countries that is called "Flipside" and it's kinda trippy if you like that vibe. It's not on Spotify but you can find it on youtube. Also it might be too soon for you to get into the unreleased tracks but there's some really good ones that didn't make it to the album and you can find them on yt
You wasted no time! Thanks for putting this out there so quickly yet not rushing through the actual reaction, and taking time to appreciate her absolute mastery of song crafting! And please do not worry when you say you don’t know how to explain or put in words- trust me, we get it! She has the uncanny ability to make her listeners’ brains conjure images and memories, evoking nostalgia for a time, feeling or place in life they didn’t realize they were missing. It’s like she taps into a well of forgotten feelings that exists inside of all of us. I think the core of the Americana/nostalgia theme ties into this- romanticizing and idealizing the past. Things always seem better looking back, even if they were dysfunctional and not as great as we remember…like many times in American history, a lot of glamor and beauty alongside the darkness of human existence. She examines that kind of duality in a lot of her music. She was often criticized for the exploration of taboo topics but she simply presents the listener with a very artistic representation of common human tendency that few would admit. That is exactly what makes her artistry so superior, and some people forget her music is truly art and should be appreciated as such.
Wow, thanks for writing that. Very well done. I understand and relate to everything you say. I discovered Lana four or five years ago and it has literally changed my life.
