*I plant Lavender, Rosemary and Peppermint around my chicken coop to keep our bugs and mice.
    * I use Maranga powder in my smoothies. I ordered it off Amazon but I’d love to grow my own.
*I think Comfrey might be an interesting one for me to try.
*I have to research everything and talk to my nephrologist before I can try new things because of my kidney disease.
*I love that you explained what each one is used for. Thank you and God bless, Carol B

Jenn you're a woman after my own heart lol!!! A suggestion for you is look into buying the book called Back to Eden. It has almost every known herbal remedy and the form in which to use and the dosage!!!!! Mind you the book was written years ago when enemas were popular so look over that part lol. Also if you could speak with a native elder they have priceless knowledge on all things naturally curable from years and years of experience passed down. I absolutely love herbs and I pray we can have a tea garden as well. It's really been hard with such a big family (6 going on 7 people come june) getting back up after loosing everything in our house fire. We just hold faith and keep dreaming.

Give the cone flowers time, they may show up this year. The licorice basil with echinacea and fennel are good for respiratory teas. L-lysine is great for cold sores. It’s an amino acid and you can get it over the counter. Love y’all and your channel.

    • @ritamccartt-kordon283
      @ritamccartt-kordon283 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello from TN! L-Lysine is wonderful for any of the herpes viruses, which includes Shingles. It runs along nerves. I don't have a flare up as long as I stay on L-lysine! I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it's good for Chicken Pox! It's best to take daily to keep it at bay. I've had Chicken Pox 4 times! The first time really bad. The last time I was in my 50's! But I'm a very unique individual, I've NEVER had a vaccination of any kind. I was the last of 8 children, and fell through the cracks! My system is very strong!

Rita McCartt-Kordon my goodness, 4 times! I didn’t even know that was possible! Yes ma’am I would say you have a heck of an immune system. I started my mom on l-lysine years ago for cold sores and it has been a game changer for her. I have never had one but I know they are painful. I wish you a healthy and abundant new year 😃

Yes stevia is easy to grow. You can grow it in a pot and bring it in for winter. It stops growing, but when spring/summer comes and you put it back outside it comes back. Pineapple sage is another plant that you can grow this way and it is a beautiful plant. Thank you for sharing your tea garden plants!!!

Last summer I grew six kinds of basil, to see what would be my favorites, and Lime Basil is at the top of the list. Holy Basil is wonderful (there are a few kinds!), a plain basil will also make the cut this year, and Baker Creek sent me an Opal Basil, so I'll try that. Chives are wonderful, once they get going you can just keep dividing them and end up with a whole giant row. I use them now to make Chive Oil (from That 1870s Homestead TH-cam channel!). I have had no luck with Echinacea, either starting several varieties from seed to buying transplants. Careful with fennel! It does not play well with others, especially once it blooms. I lost an entire BED to fennel this summer, only brassicas and mustard greens would grow near it. It was gorgeous, the pollinators came from all over for it, but letting parsley go to flower does the same thing without scaring off the other plants. My new little fennel bulbs are now in a very large tree-sized pot. Going to go to town on lemon balm, lots of loved ones with cold sores, thanks for sharing that tip!

I have about 600 sq feet of tea/medicinal garden. I LOVE it. Most people want to grow cucumbers and tomatoes. BUT I want to grow food so spices to cook those tomatoes and cuces with is just as important!!
Note Fennel is great in stir fry if you get the one that bulbs out.
But the leaf part taiste like licorice too.

I grew Thai Holy Basil this year. For as awesome as it smells fresh, it's beautiful with lemon balm as tea. You have to grow Roselle!! It's so good in tea and is beautiful in the garden and you can added the calyx in tea for zinger tea...packed with vitamin C. I make lemon balm infused honey. It takes 8 weeks to finish but worth the wait.

Jenn, moringa can take a while to germinate so don't give up on it. In Central Florida mine doesn't like our very mild winter so might want the option to move it indoors during your cold months. My favorite tea that I grow is fresh choc mint, lemon grass and ginger. I drink it everyday for the most part mint grows year round because I have it growing in 2 ft of wood chips but I do make a tea concentrate and freeze it in ice cube trays just in case. I hate being without it! Thanks for sharing as always 🌻

Lavender is slow. Need a plant that's several years old to use it.
When we get talking herbs and salad greens, I am reminded that most people, if cut off from society, would starve while being surrounded by food.
Clover is a tasty herb for salads and teas.
3rd option for teas is a French press.

HI ,FROM DONNA, plantain ,as I call it the giant banana, you can take it when green ,you put it into a bag and store it until it turns yellow is black ,til it looks like it's rotten ,then you fry it with either cooking oil or butter and the taste will vary ,but they are really good.

You will not be disappointed with the Holy Basil. It is prolific. You'll probably never have to plant it again. It smells AMAZING! Bees love it. And, yes, it makes great tea. Also, try Roselle (hibiscus) for tea. They are beautiful and kind of look like the okra flower (same family). If you have a fig tree...dry some leaves and make some tea. It's WONDERFUL! I had no idea until I read up on it but, it's great for blood sugar and it tastes great. Great video!!

when i was gardening, I grew several "aggressive" herbs, but I never had any problems because like you, i kept them cut back. Also, it was manageable because it was rather small, maybe 3x20 feet and separate from the vegetables. I really loved the pineapple basil and the holy basil. The mint favorite was apple mint and lemon balm were favorites, too. My lavender always failed, it's the heat in our zone, I think. Two of my very favorite cooking herbs were both the winter and summer savories. They are so darn good and perfects any meat or savory dish.
There have been studies re: st. john wort from European medical schools, especially in Germany. Studies showed high efficacy for the treatment of mild to medium depression and anxiety. The dosage is available online. Dandelion Leaf and Root are so great. Leaf is a mild diuretic, and with the root is very good for blood pressure control. When you do the research, it is amazing the wonders herbs can do. Sometimes used as an infusion and sometimes as a decoction.
Loved this one, Jenn. Thanks so much.

I love herbs too and use them regularly. I think I may try moringa this spring and I'm trying to start some stevia and rosa rugosa(for the hips) in the greenhouse right now. I started this spring 2019 since I moved to TN Fall of 2018. I brought a few things with me from IN when I moved(ostrich fern, gooseberry, comfrey and iris) but I started most of rest from seed(lemon balm, coneflower, thyme, lavender, hyssop, sage, lemon bee balm, rosemary, hibiscus, lemon grass, lemon eucalyptus, chamomile, chives and three basil typed. I got peppermint, purslane and elderberry from starts and bought a yaupon holly(only N.American caffein source). I have mountain mint, yarrow, st john's wort, blue and red lobelia and joe pye weed and boneset growing wild everywhere. I also have three types of pine, one has lemony smelling needles that's good in tea. I had marshmallow back in IN but never used it, two other herbs I had before that I want to start are horehound and pennyroyal(very good medicinals). My favorite Herb book is "A Modern Herbal" by Mrs. M. Grieve. Happy Herbaling (is that even a word?...lol)

Jenn, try L-lysine for the cold sores! If you take it at the first "tingle" it goes away quickly! You can get it at Walmart, Walgreens or anywhere like that. I'd get 1000 ml or take 2- 500 ml on an empty stomach it works wonderfully on Shingles too! The TEA Garden sounds great! You might try different varieties of Lavender to find one for your area. I usually try a couple of varieties of something to find the best for our place.
I use the Catnip around my Bee hives to help with ants. All the herbs I can find, to help the Bees cope with Varroa mites and such. I use essential oils instead of the usual methods of Beekeeping. Anyway good luck! GOD bless

Fennel is so good for tummy upset and gas, soothing the intestinal tract and helping to heal the intestinal lining. It's so gentle that even baby's can have little bits of it when their thummies full of gas and upset. It does taste lie a light licorice......great if you like that flavor. :)

Jen- my purple coneflower thrives on neglect. I planted it in full sun in an area I rarely water. Never have amended the soul except adding crushed leaves every year or two. If you need seeds I have tons

I too suffer from miserable fever blisters! I've found that if I take lysine (found in the vitamins at Walmart) at the very first tingle of a fever blister that they are much more mild or even don't fully come up at all!

A dental hygienist suggested that it could be a B vitamin deficiency. As long as I sprinkle my coked food with the ground flax meal-blisters stay away. Good luck.

There is a plantain that grows in most yards (wide leaf and narrow leaf) the Native Americans called it"White mans footprint" because it can be found in your yard, around barns, plowed fields any where the ground has been disturbed. It can be used in salves for burns, scratches, ect. I have used it for sever burns yes I have scares but it reieved the pain and was totally healed over in 2 or 3 days. it is great stuff. Another great herb (weed) is mullein, it grows in pastures mainly around here (Okl. and Mo.)it is used for respiratory problems and mucus, keep it in a tea or mix it with another tea half and half. I love it. Another weed/ herb is the purple mint another wild plant that grows in fence rows and edges of timber(woods) it can be boiled and used as a steam treatment for allergies. (put your head over the pan of steaming water with the mint still in it, cover your head and pan with a towel and breath deep.) another to use it is to crush a few leaves in your hand and rub them in your skin (face, not eyes, arms, legs ect.) to keep mosquitos off of you and far enough away that you can't even hear them, it's great. Sorry this is long. This is my passion.

Marshmallow is great for a scratchy throat, especially if you add it to water before speaking a lot. Just add it to water and sip it all through your speaking time- works great to keep vocal cords lubricated.

We always found wild mint by the creek when I was a kid. You have your little pond, maybe it's near that? Fennel is great in red sauce. It needs to be cooked for awhile to release the flavor. Not sure the little ones would like it though. This is a fun vlog!

Tips on fennel, it is a perennial and it taste like black licorice, just not as strong. It also gets quite big, tall shrub sized.

Stevia is awesome! Be aware its a water hog, especially if they are in pots. As for making your sweeteners with it...home processed stevia has an acquired taste. It can taste a bit like grass . Alcohol based tincture can turn bitter real quick. Dried leaf (crushed or ground) works best in teas but not great in coffee. You can also do a glycerin based sweetener. Play with small amounts and see what works best for you.

My son loves the lime basil and lemon balm tea with a little honey. It is such a good combination! You should try the Tulsi holy basil it is a power house for anxiety and it is a great adaptogen.
