Having been there in September it was warm, sunny and teaming with tourists, I walked almost every place you see, recognize shops or places, stood there, sat there, amazing.
I visited oct 31 and nov 1 and it was cool and lovely. Heartbreaking for the residents and business owners.

Global warming!! This is heartbreaking I was so lucky to have seen this marvelous place.
Surprisingly climate change is one of the smallest factors in all this. There's a few documentaries explaining the entire situation but essentially, the city's foundations were purposely lowered (in the 80s I believe), artificial islands were built for various reasons which raised the sea level. Other islands which acted as "sponges" and absorbed most of the water during high tide were developed, and cruise ships exacerbated the situation in many ways. There's also a lot of corruption when it comes to preservation projects.
It is not global warming We are in a solar minimum. The sun and moon affect tides but it will probably be too late for most when they discover the real state of affairs

I live here, and it is not exactely like this, please.........this is a catastrophe....this was an exceptionelle high water and high tide - quite 2 meters- Never, never seen or happened something like this during 2000 years......we are not use to this .....People that lived and worked at the ground floor has lost everithing and now are in big troubles and debts....

No! It's a real disaster. Isn' t no usual, 2 metres of water. Usually is 110,120 cm. 2 metres is a tsunami! I live in Venice, belive me, it's a catastrophic disaster.

Venice lost 25 cm due to water bombing in the last 40 years at least. Engineers are planning refilling the water slowly so the city recover the original height. (sweet water was like 800 mts under the city)

I thought the Italians finally fixed the flooding with the flood gates that they built. Why would you allow such a beautiful city to flood.
A news program I watched not long ago states they are not complete, there are still more work to do but not enough funding to cover all the water entry points.

I remember seeing a documentary on an epic construction of a flood control gate mechanism that proved to be poorly implemented. Rust, Barnacles, etc. looks like that was a failure....of course, fighting against Mother Nature is always iffy.

This is historical and touristic city , and plus it is ghost city , real population living outside of city and using Venice only for bussines ( this city costs a lot for maintenace ) , I feel pitty for real people which loses their homes every year in Indonesia tec...and in that area ... plus ancient cities in Iraq, Iran, Jordan .. they have damage caused with wars and destroyed by theft, nobody is speaking about that ...

Injecting billions of gallons of seawater could "inflate" porous sediments the city, causing the city to rise by as much as a foot (about 30 centimeters), scientists say.
Venice dropped about 5 inches (12 centimeters) between 1950 and 1970, when groundwater was pumped out for industrial uses, according to city data. Currently, though, the city is sinking at a rate of less than two inches (five centimeters) a century, according to a 2002 study in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
Under the plan, a dozen wells surrounding Venice in a six-mile (ten-kilometer) circle would pump water into the ground over a ten-year period-nearly 40 billion gallons in all (150 billion liters).
"When you inject water, you cause an expansion of the injected formations," said Gambolati, a hydrologist at the University of Padua in Italy.
"If land is settling, then you offset the settlement and sinking stops. [Once] land is stable, you induce an uplift."
