They should just build an extra floor ontop of everything . Keep the same building style , building methods , and architectural style , but build higher allowing for any settling or flooding. Yes, that happened. Historically low snowfall in the alps, another consequence of climate change, that year meant historically low flow into the lagoon, so at low tide some canals went dry. But flooding is a much more serious long-term threat to the city because of sea-level rise.
Venice has been thinking for as long as I can remember I just read unless it's not true that the canals are drying up because they have low tides and lack of rain?

It's too bad that there isn't a megaproject Venice could do to allow Venice to be raised like how they raised Chicago and reversed the flow of the river/lake, as well as adding large drainage systems underground.
I firmly believe that Venice is not sinking. It is just a matter of solving the siltation that canals, rivers and oceans undergo. They have become shallow due to thrash, garbage, and objects that sink onto it. Thus the usual volume of water that it use to contain is lessened forcing the excess water to spill out from it or exceed its usual normal water level. Meaning the need for DREDGING. We should avoid using the word SINKING as this word might create a negative impression to most people.
It seems like it would be better to close the three openings to the lagoon permanently, and to transform it into a freshwater lake which would be pumped out into the Adriatic, almost like a water polder. Or just move the population of the city and abandon Venice, frankly.
well... it's been happening for all these 65 years and the situation is definetly worse now compared to the 60s. Just beacause we're not going around swimming everywhere here doesn't mean the city isn't slowly sinking

our tour guide says 2 millimeters a year. we saw seawater coming up the storm drain in the center square
We shouldn't try to control the environment so much. Coastlines change and people have to move to adapt, it's been that way for all of history.
Nah
You're right, we should just move out all of the 600,000 people and put them somewhere else, that couldn't take more than a day or two right?
Genius, someone actually said, "let's hammer some wooden spikes into the water and place land on top of it".
You should also do shorts..It will be helpful
Came here after the drought wave in venice.... Do i need to say more?
They fought climate change to hard
Bro why don't they just fill buckets with water and then fly them off to antarctica?
Well what did they think that they weren't ever going to go under water 😮💨
For years I've heard that Venice is sinking, building a city on water off course eventually it would sink
Venice isn't sinking. It's not going deeper into the sea. The sea is rising, ergo Venice is being inundated.
I think it does both !
No it is primarily sinking. It is sinking because of ground water pumping
I always wondered how this city was build in the first place
It’s crazy to think one of the most famous cities in the world could become a ghost town.
No longer. Sinking it is drying up 2023 February.
The 4miles MOSE project that stop High water it's tested and It work's well. It's not finish but It Will be finish for the next 100years there aren't High water problems in Venice Island.
How about people start callling it by its real pronunciation
Venezia
JUST SAY IT THAT WAY, ITS NOT THAT HARD!
Santa Maria Della Salute is my favorite place to hangout, especially Punta di Dogano. Sad to see how tourists and the corrupted officials have spoiled Venice.
What if the termites get themselves scuba tanks ?
It's too bad that there isn't a megaproject Venice could do to allow Venice to be raised like how they raised Chicago and reversed the flow of the river/lake, as well as adding large drainage systems underground.
Plant millions of mangroves and high yielding root trees suitable for salt water.. 🤔
Why though? What will it do to protect it from sinking?
@@thekraken1173 mangroves mave barriers from waves and can make lagoons and they drink tons of water
Why is there a picture of La Rochelle, France at 8:39?
"Why don't we take example from Netherlands? They are pretty good at dealing with water"
"Do you say corruption and Mose ?"
4 feet by 2100?! Ya right! That will happen by 2050
I feel like something super bad all around is going to happen in 2050. Things aren’t good now so I bet some sort of massive dystopia will be around.
Nooo my favorite planet
Lolol
Vat ist Venice sinking abaot?
The canals are dry. What do you mean 6 months on.
We should avoid using the word SINKING as this word might create a negative impression to most people.
absolutely not the case, I wish it was that easy
It seems like it would be better to close the three openings to the lagoon permanently, and to transform it into a freshwater lake which would be pumped out into the Adriatic, almost like a water polder. Or just move the population of the city and abandon Venice, frankly.
They were saying this my all the year of my life. 65 years now.
well... it's been happening for all these 65 years and the situation is definetly worse now compared to the 60s. Just beacause we're not going around swimming everywhere here doesn't mean the city isn't slowly sinking
Very true. It is the slow-moving disaster, like Venice’s, that is the most difficult to get people to act on.
I can vouch for this Venice is truly stinking.. when I was there it stunk so bad it smelled like I was walking around the inside of an outhouse...
The population of Venice is only 253,992!
The proper Venice is around 49,000
That includes on the mainland.
Venice is not held up by wooden 'planks'. It's entire tree trunks. Not 'all' of Venice gets flooded with high water, just certain areas. I could go on... This video is full of nearly-truths. It's like a high school kid read some books and made a presentation on it, nearly getting it right.
