    So after some testing of it myself I believe the garbage dumps can be used in multiples but it is limited. Your dwarves will hall to the closest garbage dump. So depending on z-level and pathing you could set multiple zones and use the garbage dump method that way.

      Yeah, dwarves always look for the easiest way and this way you can "control" them a bit. But altogether it grows more and more unreliable the more dump zones there are imho. I prefer the Minecart method cause I can set up as many QSP as I like.

    i like QSB for stone and logs, that way i can sort diferent log to become barrel/bed and different stone to became doors/blocks/furniture allowing stuff being made by more than one type of stone without creating dozens of diferent workorders

      I commonly use them for bars to ensure that the best items are the closest.
      For example I'll have 3 forges in a row. Then the closest QSP with steel, this way it is typically picked first by moody dwarves. Then an iron QSP, then a copper.
      I currently use it in a very special fort with a bugged out map I'm playing. Has a 1000+ z-level candy spiral that was filled with angels. Collapsed the thing and am melting down their goods which has been hundreds of bars of special metals and needs a few QSPs to keep it from turning into an unmanageable mess.

    I watched another video, I won't say who, which was a bit more confusing and sadly, didn't work for me. Your video simplified the process and more importantly, worked. I am hoping this will help reduce the lag so that I can push for 200+ dwarves. Thank you greatly for this and other videos. Keep up the good work.

    3:00 you can have any diferent dump zone, just need 1 unpaused at a time, i use that way to move finished goods from one tile to another in the hope for dwarf take one for them selves to "adquire item" need

    I find dumping to be a bit inefficient for heavy stuff, because your guys don't use wheelbarrows for dumping. Though I'll still use it for rocks and whatnot to clean up works zones I've just dug out, I try to keep the distances short.

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wonder if anything but the settings on the feeding stockpile and the minecart actually matter. The QSP itself will just be fed via that, and as long as its settings don't result in items being taken out again it works.
    Plus, wheelbarrows in the feeding stockpile can help with performance.

    • @jonathanbouchard5809
      @jonathanbouchard5809 ปีที่แล้ว

      Setting on receiving stockpiles and minecart are a waste of time. The minecart is setup to dump on the receiving and only taking from the feeding, only the feeding stockpiles need specifics. I set the minecart and the receiving as all, remove bins and barrels and I only receive the specifics of the feeding stockpiles. not a big time saver on wood stockpiles btu on complicated setup you don't have to set it up 3 times and risk mistake.
      enjoy this extra tip

    • @petergraphix6740
      @petergraphix6740 ปีที่แล้ว

      > wheelbarrows in the feeding stockpile can help with performance.
      Note the current bugs in the game
      >If all of a stockpile's tiles are occupied by wheelbarrows, it will stop requesting new items even though the tiles under the wheelbarrows have no stockpiled item. Consequently, stockpiles need to have more tiles than wheelbarrows to work correctly.
      Really wheelbarrows should only be used for stone and not really any other items as the gains are minimal to negative. Remember that the dwarf has to go to the stockpile get the wheelbarrow then go to the item and bring it back. Without a wheelbarrow the dwarf gets the job and goes straight to the item.

      @@petergraphix6740 Makes sense. I mostly use QSP for stone/ore/furniture, so perhaps that makes sense.

    Would QS also help with framerate mitigation at all? Less graphical assets for the game to worry about?

    • @ZekwaldIX
      @ZekwaldIX ปีที่แล้ว +1

      graphical elements has very little impact on the games performance
      it's the dwarf pathing the causes a large portion of the performance issues, smaller stockpiles means less hauling jobs which results in less pathing calculations
      at least when it comes to hauling stuff from outside and long distances

    will this work with furniture or will they degrade?
    will this harm any dwarf picking up from the quantum pile if a minecart dumps in the pile at the same time?

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've not noticed degradation of items or slowdowns.

    • @HansLemurson
      @HansLemurson ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So long as the items don't have any speed when dumped (either dropped from above, or flung out of a moving cart) they shouldn't cause any danger to dwarves.

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      Degradation only happens if a stockpile accepts Refuse among other things. Refuse speeds up (or activates) the degradation process to get rid of tattered clothes and the like.
      And no, the Quantum Stockpile can't hurt anybody, cause the cart isn't really moving at all afaik.

    If you set the feeding stockpile to stone, can you setup more than one trackstop/QSP pulling from that one feeding stockpile for the purposes of sorting econ stone from others, etc? If so I'd love to see a tutorial on that!

    • @joevano
      @joevano ปีที่แล้ว

      No, if you don’t follow those exact steps, one stop… linked piles, etc, it does not work. Check the DF Wiki for some other limitations as well

    • @angrymushroom26
      @angrymushroom26 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you should be able to designate a larger stone pile for alll stone, then set up three minecarts to take from it and designate the minecart to dump and only take Economy/ore/normal stone per stack and into three stock piles that will only have the related stone. So Major stock pile > minecart set to stone type > stock pile set to same stone type, then do that more times with the other types of stone.

    • @joevano
      @joevano ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angrymushroom26 yes, but it can’t be multi-stop as proposed… each would have to be a one-stop QSP with its own mine car

      Honestly, I don't see this as an exploit. It's the game's default behaviour if a workshop produces a good that no other stockpile accepts. I don't normally use stockpiles like in this video, except for stone, and possibly drinks in a tavern. I do heavily use the workshop QSP though.

    Good video! I tried the second version ..but it seems to stop working after while. The minecart would just fly off into the far wall and not drop the items into the stockpile and having to reset the minecart at the stop. Around 30 items into the dumping stockpile. Would it be a framerate problem maybe?

      Kicking an empty minecart does this. You really only need the first rule and remove the others.
