    Something useful to know is that x=75% of wear/value, X=50% and XX=25%. You can also “easily” sell your worn clothing to humans. They aren’t very smart.

      Is anybody compared to a dwarf smart? I highly doubt it.
      Nice trick! :D

      That's a really good point. The used clothing industry really becomes a valuable revenue generator once you get up towards 200 dwarves (in my current fortress I have 400 dwarves, RIP framerate).

      Some say humans know the art of "tailory" to repair or even the mythological system of "recycling" clothes.

      @@andrewm3210 yeah i usually sell 80-100k worth of used clothing each year like a giant secondhand retailer xD but it really breaks the trade because i really don't need to produce any other thing than clothes. I would think that clothing and armor with x on them should be able to be repaired once up to max durability and then become unrepairable the next time they get to x, but then they are called xx. When they are xx (or x) the price of them drops by 80%. X is 90%, and after reaching XX they are completely destroyed. When a masterful crafted item is destroyed this way the creator gets a slight happy buff that their item has been loved and used so much, otherwise all your legendary clotiers will go around and be miserable all the time. And all these levels of wear is sortable in stockpiles. When an item gets to x,xx or X when on a person they will look for replacements. In case of repairing they give them to a stockpile and a tailor or leathercrafter repairs them without relinquishing the ownership of the item.

    I've noticed that when a caravan (maybe other visitors as well, I dunno) is visiting that their clothing, armor, weapons, etc are also listed in the stocks menu. It's noticeable when they arrive and suddenly there are a bunch of foreign weapons in my stocks. That stock menu is in a horrible state right now - you cant tell what's been built/used and what's available.

    • @pixelpusher220
      @pixelpusher220 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that if you use 'blocks' for constructions, that they don't show up in stocks...or at least are nicely segmented so you know your your actual bar availability

    More automated way: Create a disposal chute, or a stockpile near your trade depot, that takes all clothes. Set your clothing workshops to output to a stockpile that takes from links only.
    Dwarves will take things for themselves directly from the stockpile of freshly made clothes, while their discarded stuff will go to the disposal sooner or later (might need to wait for ownership to expire before they'll move it).

  • @dovedozen
    @dovedozen ปีที่แล้ว +5

    iirc, for vanilla, you can also set all your clothier's shops to give to a "none" stockpile, then set up a separate stockpile (ideally near your trade depot) that accepts clothes. That way most of what gets put in that stockpile is worn clothes & you'll have less clothing floating around on the floor - it's not perfect, but it takes much much much less work than designating stuff for disposal by hand (& then trying to figure out what to do with the masterworks separately).

    Besides this, I also went to the labor menu and added new work detail that only involved refuse hauling. Assigned all my peasants to that work detail and they had my fort cleaned up in no time.

    My guys are making way to many masterworks... lol. Thanks though, it's still helpful. My current fort was making so many babies I decided to turn it into a generation fort, but my clothing industry came to a grinding halt after awhile because my work orders were counting all the worn out clothes.

  • @MoribinJ

    I usually made specialized stockpile for all clothing, then made another stockpile but tweak the total quality to allow all quality except standard, and make it take from the first stockpile. The first stockpile will usually be filled with x clothing and standard clothes, while the second one filled with quality clothes. Then I just sold the whole bin to human merchant for a lot of cash, made a lot of money from selling dead goblin clothes too. Not sure how the logic works but it just works on my fort for some reason.

    As mentioned by Joe, worn clothing can be sold and if high in quality it can be quite valuable. I have contact with four other dwarf civilizations and four human civilizations and between used clothing and miscellanous goblinite, I have enough to generate about 400,000 dwarf bucks per year in value with my 400 dwarf fortress. Even if it were 200 dwarves, that still produces over 200,000 in value each and every year. I do make all of the garmets, including cloaks, hoods, robes, etc except for caps and mittens and it keeps a few legendary clothiers, weavers and threshers quite busy.
    Obviously I generate a ton of cloth. I have an alternate dump that is right next to my trade depot. ALSO once my fortress is established I give KY dwarves very large individual bedrooms that range between 3x3 and 5x5, all arranged in a grid of 10 x 8 individual rooms per dormitory level with rooms fully engraved (or floored) and beds on the back wall directly in line with the bedroom door. This makes my dwarves extremely happy in spite of some of my other fortress shortcomings. No cabinets!! Most dwarves shed their clothes in their rooms and they gradually fill up. Once a year i shut down my main dump and open the alternate dump next to the do a major east/west sweep along each row of dorms with the mass trash button, being careful to not hit the beds or doors. Every couple of years I'll also do a north/south sweep to get the clothing that's beside each bed, again making sure that I dont hit the beds or doors.
    At this point I don't even bother with crafts, statues, figurines, etc because my fortress has become the used clothing capital of my world.
    Obviously this solution won't work for everyone, especially if the dwarves have small, unaligned bedrooms, but it has changed the way I set up my fortresses and how I approach trade after the fourth year. If DF ever makes worn clothing easier to filter or manage ill probably change my strategy.

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Love to see this completely alternative strategy there by just selling the stuff away!

  • @jwhite17
    @jwhite17 ปีที่แล้ว

    I make rock cabinets for all bedrooms. Also, I make stockpiles for armor by material excluding masterwork and artifacts, and they naturally haul worn clothing to the appropriate stockpile. Then I just take the cloth and leather clothing bins to the traders and sell all the ones that start with x. Lots of cash. Melt down the worn metal armor.

  • @inybisinsulate
    @inybisinsulate ปีที่แล้ว

    Dump on every clothes item then unforbid and wait for them to re-wear them. Neatly stacked bedroom a mass designation to dump everything will force them to haul "owned" junk. Also sell all backpacks otherwise military will hoard food which they will not dump it will rot and military dwarfs will get unhappy. Military is the last dwarf you'd want to upset they're the trained ones.

    I use "Tailor now" from DF hack. But my dwarves clothes are too valuable to just discard in a garbage pile..I know dwarves don't mind environmental crises or economy, but I do! Just wanna a way to have a stockpile for discarded clothes!

    3:30 you just marked fine cave spider silk shirts to be trashed. I guess game first groups up items of the same material and then sorts them in those groups.

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you can unmark everything you wanna keep afterwards. I do get sloppy whenever I do this manually, but mostly for the sake of my brain. I could painstakingly make sure that I don't miss out any valuables.
      But instead I just destroy that stuff and be sure I'll just produce something new. Until we get proper tools for sorting out worn stuff I would not stress out myself too hard to make it perfect. Or use DFHack ^^
