Eek! I hope your England trip is everything you hoped for!! It's so cool that you're taking fencing classes! How fun! I'm sorry you've had such a tough month. Take care of yourself!
My guess is you’re writing an MG horror because horror is still speculative! Excited for your option book! I hope you get to write it. I actually would love to write horror! So excited about your YA thriller and THE ODDS! I will pre-order before it comes out for sure. I’m sorry you’ve been in so much pain. Sending ease! I’m glad you’re enjoying fencing. You should reach out to Lillie Lainoff (my friend and critique partner). Maybe she can give you some tips! I’m a screenwriter trying to break into the entertainment industry, although I’m more focused on TV than film. But I’ve written 36 scripts across formats and genres (nothing made, a few solid pilots as writing samples) and I’m still trying to get representation-but I also write novels, novellas, and short stories. What I will say is the entertainment industry does want IP (books, podcasts, etc.)-but it honestly depends on what they’re looking for, so I could see why the studios would pass (even though I’d LOVE to see THE GLASS WITCH as a film). Just know it’s not you! Most of the adaptations that get made are NYT Bestsellers or Indie Bestsellers, although I think others have been made as well. But IP is something studios want more than original material (original scripts from writers). Trust me! Have you read SHIP IT by Britta Lundin or JASMINE ZUMIDEH NEEDS A WIN by Susan Azim Boyer? Both books were actually screenplays first that the writers decided to write as novels when they couldn’t get traction with the script versions. Both authors are my friends and I’ve asked them about this. Adaptations is what I’m interested in because I want to adapt my own work and I’m currently adapting one of my pilots into a novel (and want to keep doing this), so yeah, I know quite a bit about this if you have more questions! It’s also better that you have the book to adapt because then the IP exists. However, not every screenwriter is good at writing prose (totally different skill set!) and not every novelist is good at writing scripts! Thankfully I can do both and it works for me. Maybe THE ODDS or your future books will be adapted! You never know!
Laura this is SO interesting! Thank you for your insight! I haven't heard of those books but that's still amazing! Good for those authors. And oooh interesting guess..... ;)
@@LindsayPuckett I obviously don’t know everything, but I know quite a bit about the entertainment industry, so I’m happy to answer your questions if you have them. If you read widely in YA, SHIP IT is a YA contemporary and JASMINE is a YA historical. Both very good books! The fact that you have published books means that you have IP that can be adapted, so you’re already ahead of people who don’t have IP. I do hope one of your books makes it to the small or big screen! 💜
It's crazy to hear Wimpy Kid is still so popular, I was buying that for my baby sister like ten years ago! Congrats on finsihing the pages for The Odds! Can't wait to read it!
Ahhh, congrats on finishing your pass pages and getting started on your YA thriller (and I get being afraid with marketability; I have a YA fantasy and it’s going super slow partially ‘cause I’m petrified of how saturated that space is and if it’ll stand out in the trenches lol). And ahhhh [2], fencing sounds so neat (and exhausting lol). I hope there are more pain-free days for you in March 💕
SO fascinating about the movie industry, but what a bummer that there are so many other witchy books being adapted (bummer for you, but I supposed witchy adaptations in general are great!) England will still be a great trip!! I hope you enjoy the planning and anticipation. Sorry you've been not feeling that great :( I wish you health and peace in February/March 💛
this totally doesnt have much to do with anything regarding what genre of MG you're going to be writing next, but I think you would be SO SO GOOD at writing like junie b jones esque chapter books!!! those were my favourites growing up and I feel like your voice and humour would lean so well into a character/story like that!! all the fun little antics and everything the character would get up to...chefs kiss i was literally about to type that you should include fencing into a novel one day and then right as I was about to type you said you want to put it in a book eventually LMAOO i still really need to read nine liars 😭😭 i need to see if my library has a copy!
I'm reading "Ledge" by Stacey McEwan! She's an Australian TikToker who got her following there and published her book (last year I think?). It's been SO great, and I highly recommend! It's about a group of humans who are stuck living on the "ledge" of a huge mountain and twice a year they have to sacrifice a group of humans to the "Glacians," evil, flying humanoid creatures who use them for their own means. The main character is quite flawed, which reminds me a lot of your MCs, as you mentioned :) I think you'd love it!
I live in the North of England and have a little 9 year old who LOVES The Glass Witch (as do I) - so we would definitely be up for a meet up if you come up our way
@@LindsayPuckett perfect! I’m about 20 minutes away from Manchester on the train so we could definitely pop to see you if you came up that way and wanted to for sure!
Your videos bring me so much joy.
awh thank you so much, Jennalee!

Omg I’m so excited to read the ODD book!!!!!
SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO READ IT!
Would you have to query again seeing as you already have an agent?
nope! But I do have to go back into the submission trenches! blah!

You put me on to Maureen Johnson and I binged Truly Devious a couple years ago, and loved the ones since. I adored Nine Liars, very good!
awh that makes me so happy! They are such fun mysteries, and make me LOL
aww man :( i think the glass witch would be great as a stop motion film, like coraline or paranorman!
oooh that WOULD be cool!
Oh I wish I could buddy read Eragon with you! I love that series but haven't read the last book yet. I'm planning to re-read it sometime soon.
It was so fun! Can't wait for the Murtagh book this Nov!

i love your updates! ❤ would love to see more of your outlining/plotting processes if you need video ideas 🥰
Thank you so much, Catie! I do have a couple outlining videos in my playlists!
during january/february i started a new fantasy wip instead of querying my book 👍😂
hey sometimes it happens! LOL

Ah I love your videos!! Will your current agent not be able to rep your YA book? Why do you need to go back in the query trenches?
No, she will! I have to go into the submission trenches still though! not looking forward to that lol
It’s probably seasonal depression. I go through that and wonder why this time.
I hope not! I love winter and would be sad!
