    You have really honed in on your skills as a writer. You trust yourself now, and know when the story is right. You’re showing new writers that there’s no ‘do it quick’, instead it takes years of hard work to get where you are. I’m 60 and a hybrid author, and what I would’ve given to know your writing knowledge at your age. Great job!❤

    Brittle Bones sounds so good-- all your stories do. :) I love your videos, you're so naturally hilarious! I can't wait to read Blood Debts and yes, I definitely remember those scary stories-- how were we able to read those as kids?! ha ha

    I have a MG horror on the back burner that has a few nods to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Love those stories. So excited for your MG horror! 🦴

    Loved Lockwood and Co.! Some really good fanart convinced me to read it, and the first MG I read since the days of Crandall's Castle and The Boggart. Ever since I've been convinced it deserves a comic adaption!

    • @LindsayPuckett
      @LindsayPuckett  ปีที่แล้ว

      oooh that would be a fun adaption!

    Oooh I read the first Lockwood & Co book in February too! I did do a bit of research on the TV show and it apparently covers books 1 & 2 so make sure you've read the second book before you start the show =)
    I too am in LOVE with the cover for The Odds! The coloring is going to look so good on my shelves!

      I saw you read it too and got so excited! Thank you for telling me about having to read book 2 of Lockwood and Co-I had no idea!
      And thank you! This might be my favorite cover...

    You are my hero, I love your personality and videos so much. You remind me how much I love stories and writing and cheer me up. Just to let you know. Thank you for another vid that made me grin ear to ear.

    Omg, I love middle-grade horror. I definitely need to check out the classics like Lockwood and Co and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark but recently I've been loving Katherine Arden's Small Spaces series it's so atmospheric with great characters. I also Neil Gaiman's books especially The Graveyard Book. Its opening scene is one of the most chilling things I've ever read in middle grade. Michelle Schusterman's Spell and Spindle and Olive and the Backstage Ghost are also great
    I'm so excited to read your horror whenever it out in the world

    • @LindsayPuckett

      I've read Small Spaces and The Graveyard book! And Michelle's books are on my TBR! I'm so excited to get to them!!!

    Just finished binging a ton of your videos and was waiting for a new one and this came at the perfect time!🥰
    For the draft I'm currently writing, I'm trying to focus only on the plot and nothing else because it is super complicated😂

      awh that's so sweet! And I totally feel that about the plot!

    I love hearing about all of your other projects that you are working on.
    I have an idea, maybe it will work for you maybe not, about working on both of your projects at once: maybe work on one one day for 4/5 hours and the other one the next day? That way you get a few days of each WIP being written and focused on entirely.
    Also thanks for letting me know about Blood Debts! Just pre-ordered it from my local indi!

    • @LindsayPuckett
      @LindsayPuckett  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would work but I really want to work on BOTH in the same day lol I'll figure something out.
      And yay! Hope you enjoy! :)

    I write middle grade horror. Welcome to the genre! I highly recommend The Clackity by Lora Senf for you. I also think you’d like This Appearing House. Both are Bram stoker nominated now that there’s a middle grade category for the first time.

    • @LindsayPuckett

      I've read The Clackity, but I'll look into this Appearing House! Thanks for the rec!!!

    you definitely should watch lockwood & co!! it is VERY similar to the first book (which i'm currently reading and am almost finished!) but with some minor changes! so if you enjoyed the book then you'll probably like the show too!!

    This video is sooo awesome, Lindsay! I love the insight into how each of your drafts works! And hearing about all your projects.
    I agree about the whole book vs movie handling thing. I am that way about The Hunger Games. The books were so well done, perfectly plotted and immersive. But my brain could detach with the killings that way. I knew it would be too much for me as a movie so I didn’t watch them.

      And yes-movies just make it all so much more real!

    I feel better knowing you also consider your first drafts as the ground zero of drafting. I'm about 2-3k away from the end of my first draft, and it's just like you said; a lot of "she said this" and "then they did this." I honestly feel like when I'm slugging everything onto the page; it sounds clanky and robotic. It's even worse because I'm a pantser, and when something happens, I'm like, "all right, you guys, where the hell did that come from?" So stressful, but I'm hoping I can clean it up in the next draft(s), whether it takes three drafts or ten.

      Also, happy late international women's day. Always love seeing your videos. You keep adding to my massive TBR on GoodReads with the great recommendations. Keep it up. Can't wait for The Odds.

    Your middle grade horror sounds so intriguing! If you’re looking for modern MG horror books I recommend Small Spaces by Katherine Arden. You might have already read this but I thought I’d recommend it if you haven’t. Happy writing! 💕

    omg SO EXCITED for blood debts!! after you recommended it in a previous video I put in a request for it at my library, so hopefully they order it 🤞🏻 Also I ADORE Lockwood & Co, I binged it all during lockdown and I’m so glad to see it getting more love now that the tv show is out. (Also I do recommend the show, you should at least check out the first ep! It’s a great adaptation.)

    Hi ms Lindsay! It’s Rose from the Sunbury library, I have a question: how do you approach a potential agent? Do you just immediately send them your story or do you introduce yourself first or what?
    Ps I LOVE your TH-cam channel! You have so much charisma!

    • @LindsayPuckett
      @LindsayPuckett  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rose! Thank you so much!
      I would suggest looking up how to write a query letter! That will tell you exactly how to go about introducing yourself and your story! I also read the query that got me my agent in my Querying Playlist on my channel! Hope that helps!!! :D

    Writing a character with your own disability sounds intense, but maybe cathartic? Inspired by Hummingbird a little, perhaps?

    • @sydneyperson1336
      @sydneyperson1336 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as someone who is writing a character w the same disability as me it is incredibllyyyy cathartic. makes u feel less alone, and rlly connected to the character

    • @LindsayPuckett
      @LindsayPuckett  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure! I did the same in THE ODDS, and that was cathartic, so we will see it it feels the same in BB!
