Plugin creators around the world are now afraid enough of you to make sure you fully understand their auto gain hahaha ^^ "IT's THERE! WE DIDN'T GET IT 100% BUT IT'S THERE!!!! RIGHT! THERE!!!!" :D
Dude I have adhd too so I get complaining about the amount of text but at least read it off screen and summarize it. These guys took endless hours to create these programs for us.
your understanding about autogain has grown a lot this year. baby audio's approach about it is unique. i'd have to try it myself to feel that parameter but just from watching you i could see it is usable
Fine-tune (knob + some key) controls is also as must in digital. So your sound doesn't BLOW UP your speakers! because you touched it. I feel that most software isn't built by engineers but kids with a 'cool idea' (which has been infintely done before) ....Just make it look cool...yup we're done...Let's make some money. Backwards thinking is the thing now.
Yeah, it seems like in a lot of plugins you don’t get exact, accurate control. What if you want to dial in an exact setting? It doesn’t seem possible with this interface, I would want to be able to double click on a control and get a numerical input box to type in a value. It’s so much quicker. I just like to give the numeric keypad some use, it’s not only for spreadsheets.
This is an interesting plugin, but I think it would be one step more useful if horizontally across the top of the XY axis you also saw the waveform scrolling by like in FabFilter‘s plug-ins so you can actually see what you’re doing to the waveform… possibly just having an auto gain button on and off would be more useful. This way you could make the settings, turn it on, compare and then turn it back off to reduce latency.
@@anteshell Of course I watched the video! But, the slider seemed just a little odd for this purpose. I was suggesting a button where you either deal with the latency or not. That way you could make your changes in solo and test it with auto gain on and deal with the latency. After you know you haven’t “fooled” yourself while making changes with auto gain on, then you could turn it back off, correct the gain and keep working. I’m wondering if just a standard auto gain button that has latency is a better solution still than figuring it out what the slider is doing.
@@anteshell I also think you may have a typo? My understanding from the video was that they could not create an auto gain without inducing significant latency. My preference would be to have a button when I need to make compression comparisons despite the latency. I could turn it off very easy and get back to no latency when I’m done working on that particular track!
@@michaelrasbury from what I understood from Wytse, they could have either made an auto-gain that has zero latency but is inaccurate or one that is perfectly accurate but has some latency in it, and that they chose to do the former. The choice between those two would be the best but as we don't have the chooce, I stand with Wytse and rather prefer zero latency.
@@DJayFreeDoo Elevate has 26 bands of limiting / expansion, Transient removal/expansion, saturation ect ect ect.. Its not what many have ever achieved as far as im aware... Seriously impressive... But alas, Latency is introduced.,..
hmmm maybe the autogain is when the slider is all the way towards the word, and than when you start moving it to the right it turns into a manual gain slider ?
It has great features to control it's behaviour. The autogain was... there? -ish? The appearance - well, that's a matter of taste and, in my case, I don't care much if I find it pretty so long as I can use it easily. The sound, however, I couldn't really judge too well. It's aggressive, and that's not something I need often. I couldn't gauge the character of it too well, though. Still, there's a free trial, so I can test it for myself the next time I'm looking into compressors. I still have to follow up on the psychoacoustic plugins you discussed recently first, though!
I like it,but not a lot! I would love to see this implemented as a vst host so that you could load any plugin compressor you wanted so you could use more of the compressor tones that are already available.
Just make a parallel channel, slap your favorite compressor on and crunch it at your own hearts desire, in parallel. It's a really easy diy but I really like baby audio so, I take that back. You're right.
Have in my template so it's not hard, well my drums are! But for quick and dirty or not having a couple hiden auxiliaries for parallels on single tracks it could work as handy
I have some really complex parallel spits in studio rack and I am using it more and more. Hadn't thought of using it in this simple manner. Food for thought 🤔
I'm not sure if quite to gets that real analog New York style sound. But it sounds good. Maybe adding some Kazrog True Iron would help with it. The "analog" clipping doesn't quite sound saturated right.
How do you figure? Attack/Release literally looks like an envelope. The one that increases high and lows looks like that eq curve. The low and hi filters have you literally dragging to cut those frequencies… etc.
I was really disapointed with the original IHNY plugin, but the new version is a great improvement and seems like something I may finally use in my mixes.
How have you made a career out of reviewing plugins without ever knowing anything about the plugin you are reviewing? Impressive. He has not made a career in plugin reviewing, he is a mastering engineer. When you use a plugin for the first time obviously you can't know anything about it. You read the manual after tweaking the plugin a bit, to get an idea of how it sounds, it's a music plugin, isn't it? The truly impressive thing here is how 2 digits IQ people like you can give their opinions. If you think you can do better, do it man, because from what I read, you have the potential to say stupid things online.
Part of what makes a successful UI design is how well the design communicates what you need to know without reading supplementary material, so it makes sense to take his approach.
I'm hesitant to try anything by this company. I saw people raving about their reverb and when I tried it I hated it. Sounds terrible. Tons of added noise and crackles.
Thanks for the review but you have a few M&M's stuck to your fingers ...LOL ...my attitude is just live and let die and dont give a fuck and yes I know, its a very narcissistic time but why do you have to present it so obviously aggressively? It has nothing to do with music ...its just self-presentation thats all. And this is boring as fuck! Its time for a new view Digga

IHNY 2 😍 Baby Audio has done it again 🎵🎶🎼🔊🔊
Sounds nice for a "crush buss" for drums. I think tilt works kinda API thrust changing detector sensitivity to lows and highs.
I prefer the old % dry/wet 😂

Except that they explained that the auto-gain does not have latency, which is why they also couldn't make it 1:1 accurate. Didn't you watch the video?

The Autogain Function in Elevate , considering Elevate's capabilities, is beyond code voodoo... Like most Newfangled Plugs.
would only need to auto gain by reading the rms level and dynamic range i suppose

0:45 sec Perfect Doc Emmett Brown from ''Back To The Future'' impression!
Did you do Crystalline yet?!!!
Cool UI & autogain, but not loving the sound of the compressor. Maybe it’s the metal drums?? Lol
I really like it!
I can hear artifacts of compression used on The Strokes drums maybe that’s what they mean by “NY sound”
New York-style compression (the technique of parallel aggressive compression) definitely pre-dates the Strokes.
I can't hear drums without this now and it hurts my ears :)
The GUI is OK but its not clear what the tweak setting do without using them & generally the feedback from the display is not that helpful.
