I really like the ending of this game, very rare in horror games where the protagonist and the vengeful spirit don't kill one or other and the vengeful spirit forgiving the protagonist a sweet ending
Back around 2002, a newly orphaned me and the group of homeless teens I ran with had found ourselves getting worried about winter approaching Detroit, so we decided it was time to go train hopping westbound. A couple of the guys were like 18-20, and had made their way out tehre and back a couple years in a row, so even young bloods like myself who hadn't hoped trains before - well we trusted in the experience of others in the group to keep us on the right track... To keep this short, I'll just say right now that we never ended up leaving the state.. We were kicked back onboard tossing back swigs of vodka when a friend got way too trashed and decided to explore the different carts on the train.. He was climbing around on top of a cart drunk. We all saw him afterwards... It was terrible..
The biking was good and the sound effects for the game in the game were appropriate, got a good chuckle from that. The scares here aren't too memorable to me just due to their jumpscare nature, but the ending more than makes up for it. Both in the Dread X Collection games and just horror in general, you don't get that many happy endings all things considered. Not only is this a happy ending, it's rather touching. Getting to say goodbye, to apologize for not being there, is surprisingly poignant for this.
Too many horror games either try way too hard to jumpscare you or do nothing at all. While using more subtle methods to get a reaction is to be admired, it’s also nice to see a jumpscare that actually startled me
When that fear kicking in, i always tell myself "don't think about it, don't think about it, they will manifested to my imagination if i think about them, lemme play a metal song in my head" And then i can go to the bathroom(which is the most scary place because there's a dark hallway no one use at night, even with light there's some place where the light can't go through)

I love how Manly answered *"No man I want to watch Anime n stuff lol"* but the game just puts you in, didn't even care xD Good ending...? Nice to know that it's not just me that scared someone will appear behind when playing games.
I think the first jumpscare was actually really good, but then the next couple where the ghost was just like "lol hey what game u playin" was where it started to cheapen. If there were a few more where the ghost was maybe seen in the reflection of the tv when the screen went black or the protag closed their eyes for too long, or even the face just faintly in a shadow, it would have completely knocked it out of the park. The simplicity of the whole thing and having a healing type ending made it something that sticks out for me.

With how the game was portrayed, I’m also guess Marcus was chosen to be the Courier, or the Courier was the ghost around you trying to deliver Marcus’ message(how he died and his final moments)
This game is really interesting. Instead of running away from the monster, it’s more like avoiding it and not looking at it, but it’s not really trying to touch or harm you.
I’ve been watching a lot of these videos recently. Even though they’re just video game Playthroughs, I really appreciate the fact that they’re able to take my mind off of things, even if only temporarily. So thanks so much for that☺️
Fear not, I live in a town with a track running through, they never lay off the horn when passing towns. Also at night you can't miss it, if you're anywhere near the track, you will feel it even with full VR gear.
The initial jump scare at 6:47 was well done (if cheap). It's the sort of scare that you can see coming if you think about it, but the developer did a good job of not making you think about it so it works out well. And the scare at 7:25 had that nice sense of dread about it. Nothing better than strange thing slowly approaching you out of the darkness! But, yeah, the other scares felt very disconnected, both narratively and mechanically. They were just sorta there. Refreshing ending and a pretty cool game overall!
Reminds me of a segment in the criminally underrated Mirror Layers where you have to play through a few levels of a platformer while one of the mirrors the monster uses to enter and start looking for you is sitting right next to you the whole time.
Lots of other people have said it already, but the reason the character is being haunted seems to be his guilt over borrowing his friend his headphones before he got hit by the train. He feels like it's his fault because he didn't walk his friend home, and because he borrowed him the headphones that might have made it hard for him to hear the train coming. So the haunting could just be a manifestation of his guilt. The jump scares and fucked up graphics are the memories and pain coming to the surface in a spike of anxiety, and finally finishing the game gave him some kind of closure.
Memento Mori sounds like some weird alternate version of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games where it all takes place in some Tim Burton-esque world and instead of bands like Goldfinger you got Ghost and Voltaire.
wouldn't be tony hawk pro skater though; pretty sure the old motorbike game being referenced was one of those old MX/motocross games. would love to play a gothic version of those lol
i like the idea of a monster standing right behind you while you're too busy playing a game about a skeleton delivering mail and doing bike tricks in the desert "damn man you really messed up that trick gotta hit the pedal harder sucka"
This is one of those scenarios where the ghost is just being annoying and there is no consequence to their presence. There is no way that kid getting hit was the player characters fault.
Yeah the jump scares were very meeh, but the story (despite its flaws) were still good, heartwarming and brought back some memories. I like the idea of you being able to communicate with the dead and using it to bring some peace to someone. After all, I think we all have things we wished that we could’ve said before it was too late…
Now I'm curious about what happens if you just say "No" to your mother. The whole, "No man, I want to watch anime" thing may have been too complex for the game.
I loved the ending I thought it was very touching and unique I really liked it :) and it is not very often that jump scares get me when watching manly play horror games but these ones gave me the chills and made me feel uneasy. I liked it I think this person did a great job :D 👍
12:59 Okay that part got a great chuckle out of that part. But overall another great short but unique experience (although agreed the jumpscarws were cheap) I do like that it doesn't end in that cliche bad ending where protag dies, but ends in a gory yet somber way.
The way I take it is the monster isn't evil. He's there to help the player character figure out what happened to his friend and to give him that happy ending
The dude had eyeballs to see the train tracks. Didn’t look both ways. It was Marcus’ fault. Literally no reason why the MC could have been blamed. Dude just didn’t pay attention
Hes scared to go alone walking home in the woods but the player is tired thus lending Marcus headphones to keep his feeling of uneasiness fade. Everyone had experienced that feeling so to cancel that out we do things that keeps us focusing on doing what we need to do. Sometimes the discomfort is so overwhelming we push ourselves to do it faster, like im so scared to cross this long road and im alone so im just gonna run.
back in the day of PlayStation1 cathode ray tube were most common tv, not to mention all consoles put out 4:3 ratio video signal, that PS1 f.e. was best played with SCART (kinda like primitive version of HDMI) connected to TV, so yeah ontop of the nostalgia factor for protagonist there are some tech limitations the orig hardware can manage ^^
@@maikt904 I'm well-aware that old things are old, I said I didn't see a NEED for it to be a CRT. The other TV would've been perfectly capable of displaying the game. Nostalgia I understand, but for me it's still a want and not a need especially when it'll still display at a nostalgic lower resolution on the available TV _anyway._ Lugging those tubes around is so much work...
@@Thelothuo you never know ^^ for that gameplay it was one more item for the fetchquest and it would be a bit harder to see the ghost next to that flatscreen
The protagonist gave his friend headphones. He probably feels gulity because if he hadn't worn the headphones, the friend might have heard the train. Protagonist could have also walked home with him to change the outcome too.
I see we have similar... interests, not a furry but somebody saying meow in a monotonous way yet conveying expression through your knowledge of their character is, nice.
I think I'm broken, the first time it startled me but every other time especially when they're shaking the screen along with the table it just cracks me up. "I'm gonna make playing games REAL annoying... AND I'M GONNA DO THIS THE WHOLE TIME! *hoarse aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa*" It's so childish and petty for a spirit of vengeance.
I liked the story/atmosphere, though I feel like the game blew its load too quickly in terms of the horror. Could've done more with the environment around the game instead of just shoving the monster in your peripheral.

I'm kinda jealous, I had a roommate watch me play through Dead Space 2 like it was a horror movie but I never had parents that appreciated the game.
Reminds me of a segment in the criminally underrated Mirror Layers where you have to play through a few levels of a platformer while one of the mirrors the monster uses to enter and start looking for you is sitting right next to you the whole time.
Now I know why the protagonist wasn't scared of that "being" popping out from the corner of the house: he was a skeleton this whole time!
It's very sad and all but I can't stop thinking about how good those headphones must have been to block out a whole train
I would completely love it if they made that skeleton driving mini game a full fledged title. Looks fun for what it is
i don’t believe that they carried that tv. those things are so stupidly heavy
All anyone wants in their final moments, especially when in that state, is a comforting touch of someone they call a friend or more
The jumpscares in this game are so in-your-face lame and hokey that they cross over from being bad, and turn around to just being their own thing.
Manly: "I'm a skeleton."
Me, a DS casual: "Good luck, skeleton!"
Don't give up, skeleton!
Even though it’s 2:55 AM I’ll always stay up late to watch your video’s Manly.
Protag: "I gotta find an old analogue tv"
Me who watches to much Anologue Horror: "DO YOU WANNA DIE?!"
"Begone from me, you modern invention!"

@ManlyBadassHero Manly’s jokes are pure gold. 🏆🤣💀
He is in a “blast 💥 from the past” mood.
I hate the idea of having something behind me, makes me paranoid in real life
Same here
What if a girl stalking on you but in good way... 🤣
@@gitgud4737 There's no good way in stalking like that
@@candylide but not in Yandere style
@@MasterLenoXWolfe But...wouldn't you be freaked out anyway? What's the point of the stalking then?
Sorry, I just don't understand
13:02 The mix of manly yelling “OH GOD” and the skeleton flying off the bike in a seating position, was hilarious xD
@@kirale1172 It kinda reminded me of Paperboy 64 a bit. But that idea was too good for me to not pass up on lol
Realized that our friend had headphones during his trip.
*He couldn't hear the train..*
"No man I want to watch Anime n stuff lol" that's why I love watching Manly play horror games, lmao
Love your videos man. ^_^ Your playthroughs are so fun and soothing. Keep up the great work
Actually if you think about it, the jumpscares seem so weak maybe it’s because it was how a child’s method on scaring someone.
I love how mom is like ''Here, kid, come and housesit for us for FREE and I'll pretend I'm the one doing you a favour''- sounds like my parents TBH :D
"Its some sort of weird Playstation N64 Dreamcast baby."
Oh, that's just the Sega Saturn then. The most terrifying console of the era.
lmaoo
Damn that was unexpectedly sad
Nice game, very atmospheric
Also these people are way too calm for people who are getting letters from dead people
i like the idea of a monster standing right behind you while you're too busy playing a game about a skeleton delivering mail and doing bike tricks in the desert
"damn man you really messed up that trick gotta hit the pedal harder sucka"
[turns around slowly]
Monster: "Hey I'm gonna steal one of your Frescas. You don't mind right?"
They say games lead to violence, but this one made you confront your past and be a better person.
I always feel chill when Manly plays any horror game so that first cheap jumpscare didn't even phase me like it should've 🕴
It was a great game. Representing the psychological trauma of not being there. Heavy shit
I loved the ending I thought it was very touching and unique I really liked it :) and it is not very often that jump scares get me when watching manly play horror games but these ones gave me the chills and made me feel uneasy. I liked it I think this person did a great job :D 👍
12:59 I swear, that sentence alone is more cursed than the house.
"No man I just wanna watch Anime n stuff lol"
*immediately dropped into horror game*
"...this is not anime..."
Not only was he not there to protect his friend, but the headphones he lent him made him unable to hear the train which killed him. Yikes.
The dude had eyeballs to see the train tracks. Didn’t look both ways. It was Marcus’ fault. Literally no reason why the MC could have been blamed. Dude just didn’t pay attention
I highly doubt headphones that belong to teens/children are so strong to mute a literally train. So no, protag did nothing wrong.
@@sharkeep4269 Exactly. Train horns and just the sound of it moving are deafening
The soundtrack in the levels is bopping!
The first text message manly sent to his mom is literally my mood
Are ya winning son?
Agent 2.3: No
GOD F*CKING DAMNIT
No idea why it needed to be a CRT, but that game kinda looked great, very stable.
back in the day of PlayStation1 cathode ray tube were most common tv, not to mention all consoles put out 4:3 ratio video signal, that PS1 f.e. was best played with SCART (kinda like primitive version of HDMI) connected to TV, so yeah ontop of the nostalgia factor for protagonist there are some tech limitations the orig hardware can manage ^^
@@Thelothuo you never know ^^
for that gameplay it was one more item for the fetchquest and it would be a bit harder to see the ghost next to that flatscreen
Me to the game character: SHUT THE DOOR BEHIND YOU FOR GOODNESS SAKE.
I would love to play a game where I'm a skeleton mailman on a dirt bike delivering dead people mail.
Great idea watching this at 12:35 in the morning
He is so pro that he doesn't need controller to play the game
The mindlink!!
This is why I'm always paranoid 😃
The protagonist gave his friend headphones. He probably feels gulity because if he hadn't worn the headphones, the friend might have heard the train. Protagonist could have also walked home with him to change the outcome too.
this grown, manly, badass guy is making my heart skip a little every time he goes "meow"
It's that Gap Moe.
*hoarse aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa*"
It's so childish and petty for a spirit of vengeance.
3:28am for me…perfect timing to watch
2:29am for me..
Perfect time to watch a manly badass hero vid
4 AM here.
What psychopath see literally SCP 096 and still continues to play video games lmao. And when it pops up MC is like “not now bruh, im gaming”
I liked the story/atmosphere, though I feel like the game blew its load too quickly in terms of the horror. Could've done more with the environment around the game instead of just shoving the monster in your peripheral.
That could have been phrased better
I assure you that my wording was 100% intentional, lol.
If anyone is standing behind me.. they better realize how much suppress anger I have packed down tight.. and they are not leaving my house alive.
The greatest horror is not being able to play a game in piece.
