No Bachelor franchise contestant or lead is ever as good or as bad as they seem. I think the same is true for Juan Pablo. He’s “the most hated Bachelor” but essentially, he’s just a little too “honest” and he let his head get too big. That, plus a culture/language barrier will make you the most hated Bachelor.
- If I remember correctly: for everyone saying Juan Pablo’s tactlessness was a culture thing, didn’t his own family keep warning the final 2 ladies that he was a difficult person to be around? Only Jed’s family tops JP’s for handing out red flags. - Maybe an unpopular opinion, but for me JP is tied for worst bachelor with Jake Pavelka and Ben F. Peter was patient, good natured, and just a massive pushover- which he seems to have grown out of given his post-season life. And Peter isn’t sexist like JP... JP is the only bachelor that I remember that squealed excitedly about a contestant’s measurements.
Oof, you are right about that! JP had sooooo many red flags. And I agree about Jake Pavelka. He and Arie creeped me out so much. They were like, the kings of gas lighting and manipulation. Just so cold, calculating and downright mean.
Mallory Gantner Yikes! I’m glad I never saw those seasons. Who were your top 3 Bachelors? I liked Sean Lowe, but haven’t really liked most of the others I’ve seen so far. (There are more Bachelorettes I like.)
I agree with you when it comes to worst bachelors, Peter was just indeicisive and manipulated by producers. Ben F. was just a boring mess, not a lot of character and to me he was completely focused about looks of women, even though it was not so apparent as in JP's season.
I'm with you! Those are my 3 most disliked Bachelors as well. Jake creeped me out how he could say such seemingly sincere things that he didn't mean. And Ben F. is like a cliched version of a frat boy. Very fixated on looks, didn't stand by his woman and let her take the fall for his own choices, and cheated on her post-show upon seeing she was portrayed as the villain. Plus he made that stupid "cream dream" music video. *eye-roll*
I thought it was "I love f'ing you but I don't know you" and that's what got Claire so upset because in her mind that meant he wasn't going to pick her. So she needed reassurance and he pretty much said a bunch of things she wanted to hear that night before the final rose ceremony. So when he didn't pick her at the end, she was pissed and went off on him.
I think that they should have had more contestants(did they have any?) on the show that came from the same culture and spoke the same language. If would have increased the chances of him falling for someone.
@Mr. Censored As a longtime viewer of the TLC 90 Day Visa shows, you see over and over that we Americans don't have a good understanding or enough respect for other countries and cultures. They wanted a 'Latin Lover' type and got a single dad with not great English speaking skills.
I think it's crazy how much hate Juan Pablo has gotten. He was always 100% honest, and that's what everyone says they want; be careful what you ask. It also didn't help that his English was poor; I bet he has much more personality if he could have spoken in his native language! Ultimately, all the blame should go to the producers, they chose him for his looks, and not for what they really wanted from him.
Yeah, it looked like he didn’t really know the best or right words to chose in English. It’s the same for many of my family & co-workers whenever they encounter someone that knows English. I think if there was a Latina, which I don’t remember if there was, then she would’ve made it far or been chosen to propose to her.
I just don't think he was ready for a serious relationship at the time, nor was he mature enough to handle one. He just wanted to fuck and hookup with girls and wasn't ready to get married and settle down.
Charlene was challenging for him... seemed well put together, poised, aloof even. That kiss... you could see she wasn't into it. When a woman is reviled by a man's touch.
@@k.b.8994 OMG, I noticed that too and got second-hand PTSD remembering back to a situation that I experienced like that where this guy I was seeing was so incredibly hot but his kisses made me want to be physically ill. It was the weirdest experience.
As said in the video, he just wasn’t ready for this show. And it clearly shows given the events that took place. It’s easy to see that his heart wasn’t in on it 100%. Especially after Sharleen left.
Juan Pablo saying "okay" is me when my 3 year old says in a highly upset tone of voice "It's not doing what I want it to do" and I'm trying to empathise but it's the 4th meltdown of the morning and I've had 2 hours sleep.
I noticed you didn't say what Juan Pablo is up to now, for anyone who is curious, he's now married. Bless his wife. As for his final pick, Nikke she's now married too and went back to her regular life after the show, still working as a nurse. According to her on Nick Viall's podcast, Juan Pablo had told her he had never seen the show and only watched his parts on Desiree's season, so he had no idea how the show worked and didn't know he was expected to propose. He didn't care what the producers or the public wanted, that's why he didn't say "I love you" at AFR and they didn't do a media tour afterward but then he didn't even express to her at all until they were almost breaking up. He pretty much wore the pants in the relationship. But I just want to know what made him want to try out in the first place. I can understand not being ready say "love" yet, but the rest of the video makes him look like an ass. It's not like guys like him don't exist in the real world, they do. So he's not doing anything outrageous that no guy would ever do, he just was not the right choice for that environment, because he wasn't there to actually look for a woman he could possibly marry, he was there to have fun and make himself feel good with all the woman trying to get his attention.
I watch Fantake so I don’t need to take 3 hours to watch bachelor after work. Love your channel! On a side note, respect that you want to keep your identity secret (From one Canadian to another) ;p
I remember this season sooooo well. I think I was like 13 or 14 when it came out lol. My family and I cringed the entire time but overall it was very entertaining.
JP has some issues, but I feel like Clare does too after watching that. I can’t believe she told him she wouldn’t want him to be a father to her kids, when he already has a child. As a parent, that is a kick in the gut to be told you are a bad parent, especially when he seemed like a loving dad.
Very good point! I thought that was a pretty tough blow in general: most of the people that come on this show are interested in having kids someday. But that probably hit him where it hurts when he is a single dad.
“Me encantas” is so difficult to translate into English but in Spanish it holds so much weight. I love love love Spanish; it’s my first language. I understand what he means by the culture difference. It’s sad how the show destroyed his character for ratings. I wish him well.
Wow, I wish more people knew the subtleties of language differences. They flamed him for using "English as a second language" as an excuse for his rudeness, but it really comes down to connotation at the end of the day, not denotation.
why does Colton get off easy he didnt propose to Cassie either they didnt have a final rose ceremony. Everyone complained that Juan Pablo didnt get engaged
Because Colton allowed the cameras to at least film a little epilogue to let the viewers know, "Ok, this may not have ended up way you thought it would, but I love her and we are together." With Juan Pablo, he didn't care about production, he didn't propose, didn't tell the woman he picked he loved her, didn't do the media tour afterward so people had no idea where they stood, and people by nature hate unfinished business. Especially, when you think about how he had been portrayed, maybe him declaring his love would make the season worth watching for some because who doesn't love happy endings?
Just realized they put Yosef into the season just to say that the strip dodgeball won’t look good in front of his daughter bc of what Juan Pablo said to Clare during this season lol
Honestly I dislike Jaun Pablo a lot less after this. He still made a lot of mistakes, but I can try to understand where he was coming from. Que the in defense of video
Juan Pablo was being true to himself & is very particular... It is no secret the producers try to manipulate the contestants. He would not allow that, so they decided to portray him in a negative light...He did not deserve that...While he may be too outspoken in his truths, it causes him some blacklash...Andi, ran because he probably told her in the fantasy suite that he was not picking her so she created the grand exit hoping to become the bachelorette; it worked. They praise Clare for attacking Juan Pablo; they probably encouraged it & edited it in her favor... Why? They never remind you Clare is on her 5th bachelor franchise show; probably her reward for attacking Juan Pablo...
Thank you. JP didn't pretend to play the basic role that the other bachelor men do. They sell the dream and propose then find a reason later down the road to break up. He didn't do anything that he didn't want to do.
He is the worst bachelor because he stood for his beliefs, didnt fall in love at the choices he had in the show, he was being himself and not conform to what the show expected him to be, and he was limited to his English speaking ?. Half of those girls are there for publicity to begin with, and it's all brings excitement to watch and enjoy the show.
Unpopular opinion: Sharleen was his frontrunner, and he did his best sorting out his feelings for the other women after she left. Andi was offended that he was honest that he wasn't sure between herself and Renee at the hometowns. She went in there looking for an argument. Women like Sharleen and Renee didn't agree with the other women at the Tell All. He was also calm with Sharleen until she left. He said in the ITM that he would have been crushed if Andi had just said if she was leaving. But she kept claiming that he used the word "default" which is clearly hard for him to pronounce. So he says her putting words in his mouth killed it for him. Thus he didn't feel sad after their conversation. I don't blame the guy.
As someone for whom English is a second language and who has dated in the US an American boyfriend, saying that the reason why you can't emote is because of the foreign language is pure BS. Even if your English isn't all there you'd be able to express empathy, affection, sorrow, regret or joy. You'd even get frustrated looking for the right words, but you wouldn't say "okay" like a sociopath.
The edit on this guy was horrible. I legitimately think he was portrayed being way worse than he was. As a latina I can attest brutal honesty is common. I had a lot of issues adapting to another culture because people often thought I was rude when I was just speaking my mind in what now I realize was considered a harsh way. He also refused to say I love you when Chris Harrison asked, it's clear he hadn't said it to her so why would he say it on tv? Was he a great bachelor? No, you think among 27 women he could've been genuinely interested in at least a couple instead of just going through the motions. That said, he has been the most honest bachelor ever from beginning to end.
many cultures are brutally honest asians , Hispanics and europeans but in the states people are more sensitive which is mind blowing to me since they have freedom of speech .
@@BATOOLESK The US has massively different cultures depending on where you are (ex NYC where flipping people off and yelling FU is required to merge in traffic, vs Alabama where if you bump someone as you walk past them and you don't say "I beg your pardon sir" they get ready to throw down a glove and challenge you to a duel at dawn with pistols...)
I thought it was "I love f'ing you but I don't know you" and that's what got Claire so upset because in her mind that meant he wasn't going to pick her. Indeed I mean yes he knew English he spoke very well, but you can tell he STRUGGLE TO PUT HIS EMOTIONS ECT IN THE LINE. I would say that I still don't like how he interacted he was pretty bad, but I feel if he would of speak in his native language through the show, it would of been a different story. I know this very vey well I express myself better in Spanish then I could ever in English.
@@cutienerdgirl His point is that she's not a great person so she is 39 and single. Doesn't mean other people who are 39 and single have anything wrong with them. Basic logic
As great of a Bachelorette Desiree was I don’t think her group of guys was that spectacular. I can see why production didn’t choose Brooks, Drew or Zak but still I don’t think JP was a great choice either (I kinda liked Drew though). I personally don’t even find him attractive but technically yeah he might fit the “beauty but no brains” stereotype. I definitely respect Clare, Nikki and Sharleen in particular even more so now after trying to forget JP’s season altogether lol
Paulo Neto Hmm I don’t follow him on social media or anything but if he’s single maybe that could be interesting if he was asked back now. I would just hope he wouldn’t be worse than Arie since we hadn’t seen Arie in anything related to the show in several years and he wasn’t that great of a Bachelor.
Well the batch of guys never are going to be that "spectacular", lol. Who does this, lol?? Think about it. Unless they are going there to be on t.v. who actually does that?!?
I didn’t see him as all that bad. I think there was a major language and cultural barrier with most women. He went in not just looking for a wife but also someone to help care for his daughter and I don’t think he saw that quality in many of the women there. It seemed like he wasn’t that into Andi, and she wanted him to be more angry about her leaving but he just wasn’t. I think he meant the things he said to Clare, but he did put emphasis on his daughter and then she turned around and talked about wanting a husband who was all about her, which wasn’t something he desired. He even offered to tell her when he knew it wasn’t her, but she didn’t want to hear it. He knew he didn’t know any of the women enough to actually marry them by the end, but I feel like he was sincere about finding someone to continue a relationship with after the show.
Despite JP being not so great of a lead, this season had the best dates & locations in my opinion! • Dancing with one of the biggest K-Pop groups in South Korea (2NE1) • Basket boating in Vietnam • Zorbing & waterfall hikes in New Zealand • DINNER IN HOBBITON?!?!
Ahh Juan Pablo, the epitome of latin fathers that constantly gaslight their daughters. The “ok, if that’s how you see it” with the hand gestures and the tilted frowned lips is all I grew up with
Ugh, that's awful. I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you're doing ok now! Any parent that refuses to validate their child's feelings is terrible and probably suffered their own childhood trauma.
People may have their reasons for hating Juan Pablo but atleast he knew what he didn't want. Unlike Peter who was indecisive from the beginning to the end. Also Juan Pablo said he was being pressured to get engaged to the end of the show even though he didn't feel like he had found the right person. So they decided to give him such a bad edit which he said he can live with instead of pretending that there was a beautiful love story just for views.
I hated how much Chris Harrison was focussing on the I love you at the ATFR. It made an already uncomfortable situation super painful to watch. Poor Nikki! Also I think pilot Pete may be coming for the most disliked bachelor crown
Sharleen was probably his end game pick, but she couldn’t get into him. JP was obviously not into the others that were left and he was emotionally lazy with the women.
I think Juan Pablo's season is evidence of what happens when you don't play the game and producers want to punish you. I'm kind of team Juan Pablo, along with Sharleen and Nikki.
So, I think Juan Pablo was no where near as bad as he was made out to be. He didn't play by productions rules and they didn't like that, you could see the edit switch halfway through and I am sure other leads have said horrible stuff like that which has been edited out. I also think he just didn't have the filter needed to be El Bachelor, and yeah he reassured Clare and led her on, but hasn't every lead? I also think Andi was not as genuine as she seemed either, and left at overnights because she wanted to be the Bachelorette, I just think her mental switch on him was so quick.
Thats funny you mentioned Andi and her quick change on Juan Pablo. Back then at that time when she had her sudden change of heart i immediately felt that she had been talking to her producer and maybe mentioned that she wasn't as into him as she thought she would be and the producer gave her the idea to "have a change of heart" on screen because her leaving would set her up perfectly for the the bachelorette lead. I mean the producers are already thinking a season ahead when filming and at that point with 3 women left they had to be contemplating who their next lead would be and Andi was the obvious choice in my opinion. Educated, intelligent, beautiful, sweet but also confident and mature. She was the total package so i really do think that was the underlying reason for Andi suddenly being done with Juan Pablo after ONE night. And I know a person could argue that the 1 night was very important, but the reality is you get a sense of a guy pretty quickly and can see if he asks you lots of questions about yourself or just wants to concentrate on himself. I thought it was pretty obvious from the start that he wasnt really interested in getting married. He just wanted to have a good time. Also as much as i was disappointed that he didnt propose or even say i love you to the girl he chose (cant remember her name! Gah. Nikki?) its still better than him lying to her and saying he did, or even proposing when he had no intention of marrying her. So i guess theres that. But the producers absolutely turned on him when he refused to do either of the things i mentioned above. Their whole story is based on the show ending in love and they werent able to produce that. Which theyd really see as a failure on their part. So rather than take the blame for casting someone not ready for marriage or not casting the "right" girl for him, its mich easier to make Juan Pable seem like a jerk. Thats my thoughts anyway and just wanted to say i agree with you!
Why then did he agree to go on the show, if he didn't like it and wanted to resist production so much. I think he didn't understand what the show was about
Have you see the interview he has with Whit and Ry? On their channel he explains a lot of the edits of the show and why he was very OKAY 👌 with the way girls reacted 😂
Didn't see his season, watched Claire's "season." I wasn't familiar with her.. looked into her eyes for about 30 seconds and immediately knew she was bat shit crazy.
Juan Pablo was misunderstood. The main reason he was misunderstood is that English is his second language. There are many things he says that in Spanish sound good and are nice, but when he says them in English, it doesn't translate well. When he speaks English he doesn't choose the right words for what he is trying to say. What he says in English comes off as weird, rude, and arrogant. He was misunderstood, plus some of the women on that season were weird and had baggage too. Clare is so weird
Watch Whit and Ry's Juan Pablo interview. It was very clear they were trying to railroad Juan Pablo into the villain role because he wouldn't cooperate with production. The narrative was extremely heavy handed and contrived.
For Juan Pablo, English was a second language. I don't hate him. It was wrong for Andi to order him not to say, "It's okay". That was the phrase that he was comfortable saying.
Just because Juan didn’t end up with anyone doesn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t ready! Why is it that you’re crazy if you don’t find a wife out of these 25 women?
JP was the first season of the bachelor I watched. I was only 13 and it was my first season so I didn't realize how bad he was at the time, and I've been meaning to rewatch it so I can really see it
I think during that first night, Sharleen was just trying to be casual and herself, and she was surprised that it was that easy for him to give her the first impression rose. She was probably underwhelmed loll
One thing that I haven’t seen come up is that Juan Pablo gave an interview just before his season started where he said he didn’t think there should be a gay Bachelor/Bachelorette because gay people are “more pervert.” I didn’t even watch his season after I heard that, but I wasn’t surprised he was unpopular.
There's plenty of bad Bachelors (Juan Pablo, Nick, Brad, etc.) but I think Peter takes the cake as the worst. Only fitting that we'd have the worst Bachelorette (Clare) only a season later.
Watching Peter on the show was like watching a teenager be on this show. I’ve heard Clayton was pretty bad too. But the way Peter biffed it the end of his season takes the cake
Same I was like 13 when this came out I think a lot had to do with language barriers. Juan didn't have a way with words like most other bachelors and "that's okay" (:

Yes definitely not a culture thing, more a JP thing
Right on

So they had sex????

Great point!!
@Mr. Censored As a longtime viewer of the TLC 90 Day Visa shows, you see over and over that we Americans don't have a good understanding or enough respect for other countries and cultures. They wanted a 'Latin Lover' type and got a single dad with not great English speaking skills.

Juan Pablos “it’s ok” conversation with Andi is one of the most hilarious interactions in American Bachelor history. I’m cry laughing everytime. Mess!
"The most disliked bachelor in franchise history"
Peter - Hold my beer
Clayton - Hold my keg
The chicks were all just sore losers. It's a competition.
Wait was Juan Pablo basically looking for a live-in nanny?
"if that's how you see it" = gaslighting
Right!! Like the best psycho move style, its like , i like you here , but if you’re gone its the same
He probably loved the girl that left
I think he did. And then she left and the season went downhill FAST!
@@debrakelly1256 he was so petulant about Sharlene leaving.
Yes he loved Charlene, everyone was just plan B
So accurate 😂

Oooh that makes a lot of sensd
Wow, I wish more people knew the subtleties of language differences. They flamed him for using "English as a second language" as an excuse for his rudeness, but it really comes down to connotation at the end of the day, not denotation.
why does Colton get off easy he didnt propose to Cassie either they didnt have a final rose ceremony. Everyone complained that Juan Pablo didnt get engaged
But I think Colton wanted to propose, Cassie didn't
I think people were satisfied with Colton because he was actually chasing a girl. Juan didn't give a fuck lol
Janis the review Girl Who complains about that?
Or... it was VERY accurate.
Honestly I dislike Jaun Pablo a lot less after this. He still made a lot of mistakes, but I can try to understand where he was coming from. Que the in defense of video
Why would you “hate” someone you never met? Lol

Francis Rica that’s what I said lol
Agreed. I think the show just chose the wrong lead. He was never going to be the person to give them what they want for this show.
I now understand why he dumped Clare

I hit like right after that "Ok" from Pete Davidson popping up on the screen. I am dying 😭😂
I can't be the only one who audibly screamed, "EW!" at 3:15.
That was the most awkward kiss of my whole life.
Oh the “Sharleen was the front runner thing” is not unpopular. Fantake himself all but says it here.

Peter made bad decisions but JP came across as much worse
Juan Pablo was so bad that Andi, the girl who questioned the lead (a big no-no in any other season) got her own season of the bachelorette.
The girl in the green dress at 2:18 is my spirit person during that Rose Ceremony flub
Most of the people that go on the show aren’t ready to settle down🤷♀️
As someone for whom English is a second language and who has dated in the US an American boyfriend, saying that the reason why you can't emote is because of the foreign language is pure BS.
Interesting! Thanks for this perspective 💐
Yes, he wasn’t gonna be forced to say something he didn’t feel
many cultures are brutally honest asians , Hispanics and europeans but in the states people are more sensitive which is mind blowing to me since they have freedom of speech .

I do wonder how much of the bad from the season came from a language barrier
I worked with a man from El Salvador and he would do the "okay" "k" thing, it seemed more so when he disagreed with something but didnt want to argue

Brooks wouldn't be a good pick for Bachelor then, but I'd lowkey be here for him to be the lead now.

Paulo Neto Oh really? I didn’t remember that.
I don’t hate him. I believe he is misunderstood and abc was not fair to him. He did a lot of things right.
Despite JP being not so great of a lead, this season had the best dates & locations in my opinion!
• Dancing with one of the biggest K-Pop groups in South Korea (2NE1)
• Basket boating in Vietnam
• Zorbing & waterfall hikes in New Zealand
• DINNER IN HOBBITON?!?!
Any parent that refuses to validate their child's feelings is terrible and probably suffered their own childhood trauma.
so true lmao, watching the season when i was younger i never knew why my mom was so repulsed by Juan Pablo until i realized he’s so much like my dad
At least Juan Pablo was honest and wasn’t gonna say I love you if he didn’t feel it, just like so many were forced to do for the sake of the show.👎
Sharleen was probably his end game pick, but she couldn’t get into him. JP was obviously not into the others that were left and he was emotionally lazy with the women.
Him whispering that or saying it in general had my jaw on the ground
I think Juan Pablo's season is evidence of what happens when you don't play the game and producers want to punish you. I'm kind of team Juan Pablo, along with Sharleen and Nikki.
CBS did some heavy editing on him. 👀🤷🏿🤦🏿🙄
I think he didn't understand what the show was about
@@e.starling141 I wish I could give you 3 or 4 thumbs up! Hahaha!!

This season must have been so painful to edit, experience or watch...
Didn't see his season, watched Claire's "season." I wasn't familiar with her.. looked into her eyes for about 30 seconds and immediately knew she was bat shit crazy.
This just seems like a giant language barrier. I think that impedes the entire experience
Watching this after Clayton's season has me screaming
Watch Whit and Ry's Juan Pablo interview. It was very clear they were trying to railroad Juan Pablo into the villain role because he wouldn't cooperate with production. The narrative was extremely heavy handed and contrived.
Wasn’t he also been found to have made homophobic comments during the season which was also part of it?
the homphobic comments hurt his season and were a reason on why he wasn't on dancing with the stars
@@mitchellmartinsky2299 DWTS actually wanted him. Bachelor Producers told them no. He couldn't do it.

A lil off topic but Renee was such a sweetheart and doesn’t get talked about enough
Just because Juan didn’t end up with anyone doesn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t ready! Why is it that you’re crazy if you don’t find a wife out of these 25 women?
He found the person he wanted to be his wife; Charlene.
When she left he was just done and didnt give a shit anymore.

Claire's go to line "I would never want you to be the father of my children" - LOL!
I was waiting for this 😀
JP was the first season of the bachelor I watched. I was only 13 and it was my first season so I didn't realize how bad he was at the time, and I've been meaning to rewatch it so I can really see it
Him: You’re elegant, I wanna get to know you more
Her: Really?!
Juan Pablo does not deserve hate.
There's plenty of bad Bachelors (Juan Pablo, Nick, Brad, etc.) but I think Peter takes the cake as the worst. Only fitting that we'd have the worst Bachelorette (Clare) only a season later.
