Also, I always felt there was something very genuine in his music, and I gotta admit, in hearing him in this interview, I have additional respect for the guy. Right on, Joe!
@robin14669 Totally agree, such a versatile musician. When he was younger he won a scholarship to the London Royal Academy of Music. Not bad for his humble beginnings! I first fell in love with his music when I heard his duet with Elaine Caswell - 'Happy Ending' from Body and Soul. "Can't Get What You Want' - from the same album - remains one of my all time favourite tunes.!
I'm a respiratory therapist and no kidding but, smoking and its ill effects keeps me in a job. I see a lot of suffering from it. Lung Ca,heart disease,COPD and lots of plastic devices to put in your trachea to keep you going. You should see it every day. Its not King Pleasure. Love your music!
@Renagade70 Just like Lennon before he was shot. He was adapting to our speech patterns and colloquialisms. Which really bugged me because I love English Accents. And Lennon had the finest speaking voice as well as singing voice in my opinion. But if I emigrated to the U.K., I'd drop my Boston accent in a heartbeat, so I guess i can't complain too much.
Unfortunately there was a high profile case of 'second hand smoke' in the UK. Research the TV presenter and jazz musician Roy Castle who never smoked. To quote: Mr Castle had never smoked, but said he contracted his illness after years of playing in smoky jazz clubs early in his career. He said in a documentary about his disease: "Whilst playing the trumpet in smoky rooms I inhaled great gulps of air - you have to fill your lungs."
@2blueyez1 not ridiculous. Actually, he was talking about secondhand smoke and no one has proved anything about second hand (not first hand) smoke. Period.
Actually, the stuff he has said about second hand smoke is totally right on. And it ties in with what he said about authority. There is not one bit of proof of second hand smoke killing anyone. Because the media or govt. or big business or whatever says something, it doesn't make it true. As a matter of fact, it's probably the opposite of the truth. The only thing I disagreed with him on is cynicism. If you're not cynical, you're not paying attention.
@everybodyhasone Totally agree with you. But I will disagree with Joe that cigarette smoking and secondhand smoke does have adverse effects upon living beings.
Right on Joe. This hysteria can be applied to the environmental debate as well. It's a load of paranoid shit, the environment has taken care of itself for millenia and will continue to do so.
So, we should legally restrict people from engaging in an activity simply because you, personally, find one of the by-products of that activity to be displeasing? Really? Would you be fine with me taking an audit of your life and all of your enjoyments and then legally restricting you from engaging in any that I find to be personally displeasing?
I love the way he speaks, he can't be more accurate and clear while answering some boring questions. A true genius.
It Will be great !!!!!... to have him here and his music in México ... Hope so......
The album that referenced in this interview, "Rain", is a masterpiece that everyone should listen to.
This version, where he's using diminished scale, man... adds a whole new dimension to this classic song.
His perceptions and observations about the nanny state, corruption and dishonesty are very apparent today! Way to go, Joe!
Also, I always felt there was something very genuine in his music, and I gotta admit, in hearing him in this interview, I have additional respect for the guy. Right on, Joe!
Joe is a musical genius and simply a great guy ! Long live Joe !
I Agree With You Joe ! ... Looking Forward To Hearing Your Latest Material.
All The Best...
Ian Cussick.
Joe Jackson, come to Nashville, TN! You will be more than welcome! We need to hear more of your fantastic music!
You will love the American South!
Joe's music was heartening when dealing with trauma with women!

He has a hybrid accent now.He's been everywhere.
@RubHerSoul1 I know he was a long time resident of New York. That's why he has a bit of an american accent.
He's an intelligent guy, good interview responses. Interesting how similar Dutch is to German, linguistically speaking, too.
Cigarettes are terrible. But Joe Jackson is an amazing artist.

@everybodyhasone Totally agree.
and certainly seems like it
Joe is aware.
The title of that song is: 'It's different for girls'.
Right On Joe!
@everybodyhasone Totally agree with you.
But I will disagree with Joe that cigarette smoking and secondhand smoke does have adverse effects upon living beings.
no more baby-sitting
@everybodyhasone And words.
It just hit me..Joe is Eckhart Tolle as a musician
"It's all bullshit, basically"....that's exactly how I've been thinking about things lately.
2021 too

Enjoy the interview and forget about the smoking debate.
Love Joe's music ... the anti smoking arguement is rather silly Joe. Please stop it mate......
Other people's cigarette smoke stinks, makes be cough and stings my eyes. That's enough for me.
He must not live in England anymore. His accent is almost gone.
Yes. Love Joe but shocked to hear his stance on second-hand smoke. How many non-smoking wives of smoking husbands have died of lung cancer? Ludicrous.
