@@powerwindow2 I don't think he's motioning them to stop....he's just reacting. He knows it's coming but I think he appreciates it and it shows in the emotion.
He giggled just the same on the gig in Hamburg, Germany this week. I love it. And by the way - it was a fabulous concert with a nice version of "Is she..." only with Graham Maby on bass.
Joe is the man! I saw him in concert back in '83. It was awesome. He told the fans to shut up at one point so you could hear the music better. The sound was done so well - not muddy and loud like most concerts. You have to love Graham Maby's bass- simply delicious! Great song, proving simple and catchy with good vocals is timeless. Love you guys
I saw this band four times during their warm up and main tour that year. The warmup gig in a small club in Cowley Road in Oxford will live with me for ever. Great band.
my older sister loved this song so much. always reminds me off her. we havn't spoke to each other in years. which is very sad, because she's my only sister.. misss her so much.xxx
@evelynmh As a student program director, I was at a college radio station convention in Washington D.C. There were several up and coming groups there... Most of the bands were really friendly and reach out to the "kids. " This was back in the day (it was 1980 or 81, I forget) when College Radio still determined who the next big group would be (think REM, Police, Johnny Cougar, MANY others....) Anyway, Joe sat by himself and wouldn't even talk to us. He cut his set short, clearly annoyed.
I wonder if the people posting disrespectful comments about this true musical legend can actually play an instrument or sing??? I bet they couldn't hold a note if it had handles!!! Joe Jackson is a genius :-)
You would think that over the years, he would know that the fans would shout "WHERE!" when he gets to that line. I love it. And you're right. His voice has held up well. Still a good show.
Heard this on the radio last night for the first time in years! I used to love this song! Brought back great memories.. Love the underlying bass beat in this song!
The first time i listened to this version i did not like it but it grows on you.I wonder how many modern day singers can sing that well live?. Nice set Joe good to see you now enjoy performing and its not just a means to an end.
Love Joe Jackson, my favorite is "You Can't Get What You Want (till you know what you want). This video does an excellent job show casing that very nice Lakland bass guitar. Lakland makes incredible instruments!
@bloodyforeigner29 I am a kid of today, and I listen to this stuff. It's phenomenal. Joe Jackson, Dire Straits, The Who, The Beatles...the list never ends!
Man, I miss music like this! Makes me think of all the greats from that time like Steely Dan and Donald Fagen. Funny, I just saw he has a new album out Sunken Condos. Got to grab my copy from iTunes.
I remember once when I was in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The local rock station played this song literally 5 times in 1 day. I'm pretty sure their whole library of songs was no more than 20 tracks. This was by far the best. I'm sure somebody from south Wyoming can corroborate my story as to how terrible that station is.
I think I still have my old Steppin' Out cassette tape somewhere. I always wonder about this story I heard about Joe Jackson. Anytime I hear him, I flash back to the rumor........ALLEDGEDLY....He was onstage somewhere, and in the middle of whatever he was singing......someone threw a hotdog ( bun, mustard, the works ) from the audiance, and it hit him in the face. Naturally, the concert ended immediately and he stormed offstage. I always felt bad for him after that. Love his music though.
Joe can blame his lack of success on whatever. I met the genuis in 1980. He was as negative AND brilliant as his music. For what thats worth. Meanwhile, thank you Joe. EXCELLENT, BRILLIANT TUNEAGE.
Funny how when u break up with someone - The songs and mostly the lyrics jump out and bite you on the a**. The songs all make sense and really get ya when u r sad from the break up.
big in europe and yet unrecognised in the grand scheme of things one of the best songwriters to come out of england in the last century. Why? i dont know. Maybe its different for Joe
I love him for laughing when the crowd answers back. Great song.
Joe Jackson
Yeah, we know.
Thanks In case I forgot for real. I have a thing in my brain. J/K but people don't have to be cruel, right?! :)
He and his band are still amazing as ever! He has the best smile eva!
one of the most underrated singer / writers endlessly wonderful
well put, yup
I like the way he cracks up at the crowd "where"
he KNOWS the crowd is gonna chant it back him, yet he loses it and mimics to them to stop doing it the 2nd time. fantastic singer/fun audience.
@@powerwindow2 I don't think he's motioning them to stop....he's just reacting. He knows it's coming but I think he appreciates it and it shows in the emotion.
This song stands the test of time ... great to hear the audiance shout out the lyrics .. and great to see joe enjoying this ?
made me smile anyway x
GREAT Classic Rock Song!! Country Music and 80's Rock are the 2 BEST genres of music!! :-D
Joe Jackson was the man, very underrated.
Over 30 years later, this song still holds up! On all levels. That's a sign of great song writing!

I freaking love his voice...and the drop in this song is bad ass

One of my favorite songs when I was 9. Still great today
Probably the most underated and under appreciated singer / songwriter of the 20th Century. Joe Jackson is a musical genius!
Heard this on the radio on the way to work this morning!!!! there is a God .....
Joe Jackson's singing style and voice were definitely underrated by many other artists.
Joe Jackson is one of the most diverse musicians ever. This song was just the start.
@evelynmh As a student program director, I was at a college radio station convention in Washington D.C. There were several up and coming groups there... Most of the bands were really friendly and reach out to the "kids. Brilliant performance. He has that star quality.
So great how he laughs every time the crowd yells "WHERE?" :-)
I like the Later audience and Joe's reaction to their singing. Joe Jackson has a lot of good songs. This is one of them.
Everyone has to remember this song..... something about MARY...it brought this song back to us and I will never forget it ....
There's Something About Mary - Yeah, I remember this song from that film.
Thank you for the song! I guess you inspired a lot of the recent bands with that song (00's bands), 182, green day, and a lot of them. Peace!!!
Well put. Jackson is one of the best singer/songwriters out there.
I love that the crowd spooks him twice. Classic song and guy.
The sweet story line with the excellent Jackson delivery caressed by the killer base line makes this epic.
Just came from Joe Jackson concert amazing 😊👏👏👏👏
I wonder if the people posting disrespectful comments about this true musical legend can actually play an instrument or sing??? I bet they couldn't hold a note if it had handles!!!
Joe Jackson is a genius :-)
I have always liked this song.
Joe Jackson is one of the greats. This is glorious.
I LOVE THIS SONG!
One of the best songs ever written. I love how he loves the 'where?' bit, it's really sweet!
This guy was ahead of his time when he made this song. He was underrated. Great song!
You would think that over the years, he would know that the fans would shout "WHERE!" when he gets to that line. I love it.
And you're right. His voice has held up well. Still a good show.

Love it!!!This was when times were good!!!!
Only JJ can save us now. A man for all seasons. Clealy, the greatest new wave/punk number of them all.
You know for an English man of my age this is an anthem. We always said in the 80s, Is she really going out with Him?????
I LOVE THIS. I especially love him laughing when the crowd says, "where?"
I just love his music :) Brings back all the great memories of my childhood!!
Man, I miss music like this! Makes me think of all the greats from that time like Steely Dan and Donald Fagen. Funny, I just saw he has a new album out Sunken Condos. Got to grab my copy from iTunes.
Joe's still got it, sounds as great as ever. Poor kids today being fed American Idol BS are really missing out.
Just got mine! Added those songs to my new playlist with Joe.
This brings back memories of seeing joe at the Limit club in Sheffield circa 1978/9 and a bloke called Brian ll!

Funny how when u break up with someone - The songs and mostly the lyrics jump out and bite you on the a**.
The songs all make sense and really get ya when u r sad from the break up.
Joe had the best tunes of all those late 70's early 80's post punk bands. Him and The Pretenders. Everyone else comes in 2nd.
big in europe and yet unrecognised in the grand scheme of things one of the best songwriters to come out of england in the last century. Why? i dont know. Maybe its different for Joe
its great how when the crowd shout he laughs. i like that
It's the audience shouting "WHERE!". The true test of a great song, when the audience knows exactly when you chime in.
Ups que rola y esa linea de la guitarra genial bien por el Mr. Joe Jackson de lo mejor seeeee......
@WestCoastPunk69 "Is she really going out with him?" was released on Joe's first album "Look Sharp" released March 1979
@twisteddsister Wow!!! You have recaptured your place of prominence for all of the anatomy speculators in the crowd......
