That place, from Tower full of mice and the von Everec estate should have been top 2 on this list, but no, number 2 is just damn Crow's Perch. The most scary thing about that thing is the bridge Roach never knows how to cross without crying in fear. The list wasn't bad or anything, but really? Baron's castle? side note: It would have been nice if Falcon mentions that the beggar from number 7 is Gaunter O'Dimm

I spent hours just reloading trying to actually go through the tournament then decided to just leave it until later cause I wanna see what cards they have. On my first playthrough I just lost the first game and finished the quest.
What's more terrifying is going to do the Gwent tournament in Blood and Wine, all confident in your favorite deck that you've spent the whole game building.. just to have that asshole force you to play through the entire tournament with the shitty Skellige deck.
The devil by the well is the first quest that shows you how a witcher works, detective work, tragic stories and fighting monsters. That's why it is so iconic and memorable
I wish that part was more surprising. I mean she literally tells you she is gonna fool the creature and you have to play along. Not even for a moment you think this is something else
I am legit surprised that Fyke Isle/Tower of Mice, Isle of Mists, and Gaunter O'Dimm's Land of Nightmares wasn't on your list. The Arnskrone Castle Ruins, the Eldberg Lighthouse, and the abandoned village of Frischlow are also good ones for this list as well.
I was definitely hoping Fyke Isle to be there... Also, that island of Undvik wasn't there either. Undvik was pretty scary as well when you first visit it, I mean I remember constantly thinking 'how the hell do I get out of this place...and how long will I have to stay here' when I first went to Undvik to search for Hjalmar...
I found the cave where they used to do the Trial of the Grasses (Trial of Echoes quest) really disturbing...Exploring that cave and hearing Geralt's comments on it just hit different
Doesn’t mean he didn’t play the game if he mispronounced things. Think of all the games he’s played/covered. Can’t remember everything from every one of them.
Came looking in the comment section for this. I feel embarrassed for him too because numerous times the script mentions "when I played the game" then one pronunciation blows his entire cover.
I was genuinely really saddened letting Iris go, and felt better giving Olgierd a second chance at life. Gaunter O’Dimm took away his heart and with it all of his emotions, making him incapable of thinking properly or making good choices. If you look at the surface he just seems evil but in reality Gaunter O’Dimm stole his life from him when he was at his weakest point in life.
@@HaydenHero I gotta say that I went for Olgierd, but just after I got the reward, went back and chose O'Dimm, having Roach all black was too badass... felt like the Nazgül horses from LoTR
When going after the Witcher Gear Set from the School of the Cat you'll enter a cave and have to fight what appears to be a witcher. If you actually read all the notes and pay attention to the surroundings you find out that the witcher was a prisoner who basically had his mind destroyed via torture and experimentation. You basically did a mercy killing and didn't know it.
Yeah. That dude suffered so fukin mutch. Mutch more than any normal human could, becouse as a witcher, he was mutch more resilient. Not to mention he was trapped there for god knows how many years
I remember this Skellige castle where an actual C'thullu cult resided, it was hella creepy finding all the noted alluding to these different Lovecraft places and characters.
One of the creepiest for me was a side quest that seems to hint at an old man who fought Ciri in the books. At first sight, harmless and weak forest hermit. Later she got to know the horror of his nature. There is an optional side quest in HoS, a small depopulated village in the east, if I remember correctly. For what reason is Geralt there, I can't remember, but what I do remember is the reason why the village is in lack of villagers. Only an old pair inhabits it. They seem weird and suspicious at first. Since I couldn't trust their behaviour, I investigated a bit and found out what they keep in the basement. Meat. And lots of it. Upon closer look, organs and bones start to resemble a species that once might lived in the village. The contrast between appearance and manners of the perpetrators and their crimes is the unexpected element that always seems to be the most scariest to me.
That's a quest from the dorf herbalist to find his apprentice, it's the same merchant that you go to start the quest The House of Borsodi or something where you gather in the basement to plan the heist. Anyway you find the dorf apprentice in the basement quartered.
That's SO cool you made the connection between the books and that quest. You're right, the quest does seem like a nod towards the old hermit Ciri encounters!
There is an interesting location in the south-west of Velen with burning ground and ghouls. Idk why but it seemed scary to me first time i've seen it. Especially when you look at it at night.
@crsor4 what’s funny is you posted this 5 months after I posted that and I just started finally playing RDR2 5 days ago. Lol. I’ll admit, it’s an amazing game. I mean especially enhanced and 4K and after an hour to get the HDR right...it is stunning sometimes. However it’s a whole different thing than a fantasy game. I still think W3 is the best, but I definitely can’t knock this game. Albeit only 25% of the way through, but yeah I definitely still stand by this, sadly even after getting Cyberpunk 2077. The W3 drinking game scene alone gives it the win for me, lol. “Let’s dress up like women and confuse them.” That prank call was the funniest. Or tripping on acid with Roach. 1,000+ hours in that game. Made a ton of videos, found a ton of stuff. Hard to think of anything being better, but I def see the quality in RDR2 & a bunch of games really. Named my horse Roach in RDR2, lol. I think Ghost of Tsushima, especially with that Legends mode is also a top contender. (Sorry for the long reply, I have covid, am trapped in the house, and extremely bored, lol)
@crsor4 thats very true. I haven’t lost a single gun fight. Even if shot, I can drink a potion which sort of throws me out of the extremely realistic way they made the game. It’s still quite beautiful to look and enjoy, but I agree that it’s not as immersive as W3 or even GoT (Tsushima where you have to have the proper stance for each foe, timing, etc) or W3 where you also have to swing at the right time and release the right magic as well as take potions. Still having a lot of fun with it. Beautiful game, but after I beat the campaign and side stories, I don’t see myself becoming addicted like in the other two unmentioned. Heck, I even got addicted to the patched and now amazing Days Gone. Hellblade is sitting there. I love most games as long as they aren’t too buggy. Just got to a house in RDR2 where a brother and sister...ugh. Then they took all my stuff. Of course I hog tied her, ran to the railroad tracks with him chasing me. Waited till a train was in sight, put her down, went to the other side and watched him try to untie her...splat, lol
@@gamingjunkie707 I can agree with that for sure. Especially as I have now almost completed RDR2 finally. It’s absolutely amazing. Definitely both have to be considered the best of the best so far. I spent so many hours covering literally every inch of W3 and finding every Easter egg & secret missions. Made videos of them. Even mastered every armor and found where to get the rare stuff in the videos. Doing the same with RDR2. Except I’m not making videos anymore.
I just realized how much I've forgotten about the game and how massive it is This content rich, super detailed game when it comes to all aspects of the story and side-quests.. there really is nothing like it yet. There's tons of amazing games, but the amount of stuff The Witcher offers is just insane. There's never a dull moment, never a scene that feels repetitive, the world isn't the biggest in area, but it's a million times more massive than all others.. Looking from above you can see the map isn't that big.. but while playing the game, it just feels like an entire world and you get to experience all of it through the witcher's eyes and ughhhh I'm gonna play it again now..... it's been like 4 years and I've -fortunately- already forgotten more than half the stuff. It's about time I enjoy myself for the next couple months
@@aragorn4242 true, not really in lockdown but I have since been replaying it and it is as incredible as I remember. Just working on blood and wine expansion now.
I've been playing this game for the past 5 years , i'm taking my time , like really taking my time , exploring every inch of the map ,doing every side quest and i still didn't finish the blood and wine DLC :)
Yeah, same!! I'm pretty sure he messed that one up. If I remember correctly, it was something about love and marriage, not about a lord killing everyone. There is an arc about a lord letting their serfs die and that one is in Velen, in the Isle with the mage and the pesta/plaguemaiden.
The story goes like this. The people that lived in the old lord's manor decided to start life a new and create their own settlement where they would live in peace. After some time the lord came to them asking them to return but a woman named Claire (she is the noonwraith) said some horrible about the lord's son (the son being homosexual) after which the lord flew into a rage and slaughtered the entire village.
@@coolstuffer123 yeah he messed up on a couple. For the trastamara estate one, what he said is literally explained during the quest. How is it FREAKIER than i thought if i already knew it? lol
@The White Wolg got it right. i paused the video as soon as the said that to scroll through the comments. i though i was wither crazy or incredibly dumb xD
What made it worst is the audio glitches during the quest where you meet them. The glitch makes them so much more creepy because it adds to their supernatural abilities. It is almost as they broke through the game to your living room.
Same. I still avoid that place. When I had a quest that was near it and the only fast travel point that took me there was in Crookbag Bog, I used a boat to get there from the other side of the city, rather than to walk through that forest again.
The island location from "The Towerful of Mice" quest is a good honourable mention from my perpesctive. The whole vibe was just off going inside it. And around the area.
The city of Beauclair while all the vampires attacking it close to the end of the Blood&Wine DLC was pretty creepie, but also pretty good. Think that quest is called "The Night of Long Fangs". I hate Bruxas since then lol
I started it recently going for the platinum, quick question tho. When I finish it and start new game plus, will I able to play on deathmarch and keep my stuff?
Did you, by any chance, have a look at the basement in the crones' hut? The one with the tapestry? There's a trapdoor which you can climb down into and there's weird little cages and a pit full of *spoilers*. Have a gander when next you're there. Creeped the bejeezus Outta me.
@@abhiramboralkar5782 I never knew of the basement despite watching others play on multiple playthroughs. I'd reciprocate your Easter egg with one of my own but its from a completely different game (but similar in terms of discovery and having a sinister implication). In the game _Deus Ex: Mankind Divided_ the player can choose a mission where they enter a highly-secured vault containing information about various secret projects (including info on the main character himself). If the player looks around through various objects in the vault, they'll find a *spoiler* inside a cryogenic storage case. The implications of it are not addressed in the game, but hint at a big revelation that may come to light in the sequel.
I remember running out of healing items in the mansion during the fever dream part and had to drink all 261 alcohol items i had to heal. Fighting drunk is not recommended
@@secondaccount2634 I had the same impression based on that he didn't even mention that the bagger who cursed the woman who turned into the spotted white was actually.... (Spoiler alert)..... Master Mirror
Omg, you missed about cannibalism. there are two old people who live in an abandoned village. I don't where it is specifically but I think that was freakier than u think when u investigate it
Goddamn I'd forgotten about that. It's called Condyle, isn't it? It's in Velen, near Midcopse? Goddamn that place was creepy. And I found it while stumbling around past midnight in game time. Freaking creepy, bruv.
Anyone that hasn’t gotten the chance yet, play the Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings. Much different feel and more linear, but if you’re a fan of the lore and want to understand the events leading up to Witcher 3 I’d definitely recommend.
Pretty early on in the game, I discovered the room inside the mountain with the cauldron and massive pool of blood at the bottom that comes into the plot much later. I didn’t survive the fall through the rock that got me to that particular room, but the camera still tracked my fall and I caught a glimpse of it before the game over screen. Creeped me the hell out in the best way!
When I first played Witcher 3 I was very bored and annoyed of it (first time playing RPG) but then after a while I gave ot another chance and it turned out to be the BEST game I've ever played
It really does have an awful design. And it really sucks cause it's the first one we get as witcher gear and if you want to play with signs its the go-to set.
Isnt the griffin school the one where you can only obtain the swords in the HoS, and if you miss it during a main quest, there's no way to get it? Didnt talk many details cause of spoilers lol
I was unfortunate to get the bad ending on my first playthrough (at the time I didn't even know there were multiple endings). Felt so empty and depressed for the whole day and was like wtf was CDPR thinking? Later when I found out there are different endings I started a new playthrough right away. Had the biggest smile of joy and relief seeing Ciri under that hood.
For me, the middle of the ocean in skellige is the scariest place in the witcher 3 (while diving). Its dark, you don't see the bottom, and a giant ghost whale in the distance appears out of nowhere.
I have a very nice suggestion: Deadwight Wood. That area always gives me chills. Kinda sad they didn't do much with that place except for two or three things The whole of Undvik is also quite unsettling. Especially with that constant fog horn sound in the distance
I just played through the Witcher 3 again, having just bought Witcher 2 so I can get Letho in the game. I love this series so much. The Leshion is by far my favorite creature- all forms of it (Between the young you fight in Novigrad vs the old one you fight in Skellige and all in between)- there's just so much to do, so much content to find that you haven't found before. It's just so an incredible game! Also Gwent is the most addicting damn mini game ever!
Many of these are confirmed as 'freaky' as we understood the freakiness when we all first PLAYED it. Something I don't think you did. Mispronouncing Skellige is a major Red Flag dude. Maybe I dunno play the game next time.
In the quest to find Hjalmar and defeat the Giant, the Undvik island gets so spooky at night, not to mention the howling winds and no inhabitants. And The Falk Isle is spookier too.
If you do some explorin in the southwest of Velen, you'll encounter a pack of cannibals living. You'll see people getting prepared to be cooked, gettting cooked. A grotesque sighting. Although it's not a quest, but Geralt has some few lines there. Worth to check it out if you up some cannibals killing.
HoS expansion also adds a quest called Without a Trace, that has you dealing with an elderly couple who live in seclusion and turn out to be.... Well let's just say it's very creepy and has Geralt solving a moral dilemma at the end.
Given by the Herbalist, yes? I remember the basement of that house. Flipping heck, was that gruesome. What did you do in the end? And did you return to visit later? There are two different aftermaths.
Have you read the books? Ciri's encounter with a particular forest-dwelling grandpa is absolutely horrifying. Much more so than that quest (or the analogue in TW1 for that matter)
The whole devil of the well is connected to the hunter who helps you track the royal griffin and the herbalist. Putting the story together is quite fun, actually
I always knew he was off but I originally pegged him as a spy or something like that after he bought me a drink in White Orchard. The hints started to pile up and reveal was amazing that he was evil monster of some kind. 10/10 to CDPR for a great villain hidden innocently in plain sight.
I got some vibes right off the bat from him, but once the expansion hit and he "saves" you, I basically said "goddammit, I made a deal with the Devil." It only got worse from there. He's just so polite and friendly, yet his tone of voice and the things he says are always...off. Just enough to creep me the hell out.
The shadows there just aren't right. Even after I drank a Cat potion I still felt extremely uncomfortable there. Testament to how great a game this is!
Man I can’t believe this game made me stop playing Skyrim. I used to love Skyrim a lot until I recently played this game. Ever since, I didn’t even touch Skyrim again.
Get used to it, because The Witcher 3 made all other games feel empty and dull for me. Now everytime I play something I'm like "it's not like The Witcher 3".
'The Phantom of eldberg'quest was one one of the harrowing experiences I had in game. When you see the haunted island after sailing ,along with the creepy music was chilling.
When Regis tells you the story about the curse, he says the beggars broke his spoon when casting the curse, just like Gaunter O'dimm did when he invoked the storm for Gerald on the boat. Also the wording sound a lot like O'dimm's wording
I remeber walking around in the place with all the spoons and keep thinking something was either following me or will jump scare me 😂 I need to replay this game honestly!
During crookback bog missions, the thing that really got me in my 2nd walkthrough was that if you haven't progressed enough in the story and you go in the middle of jungle and close to that creature which was located under a big tree, out of noooowhere he calls out to you and tell you to stay away. That really freaked me out.
One thing you forgot to mention in Crookbag Bog is that the orphanage ran there as a “farm” for the crones to raise the kids and eat them with soup Also worth mentioning the quest (a tower full of mice) it’s so creepy it deserves a mention on the list, also Orianna’s orphanage and its secret, the twisted take on the classical magic world in (blood and wine)
I had this same thought on my first play through, then each time after knowing how vindictive he is it just makes sense he has a very twisted humour, I love hate O'Dimm
@@JoeWuhPuh I disagree, since it's extremely heavily implied he's the devil with not only lore but also with how he's presented you meet him at a crossroad to make a deal,He collects souls if they fail to meet thier end on a deal,he marks you with a symbol on when you work for him, throughout the entire game you come across multiple djinns but not are even remotely as powerful, Geralt out right asks him if he's a djinn and he doesn't give him an answer (implying he's something far worse) you also encounter demons and they're also nowhere near as powerful (the shadow cat and dog also the caretaker) so it's safe to say he's definitely the devil
There was that one quest that you pick up at the Bloody Barons place, that takes you to a village south-west infested by ghouls. Then, you discover the grim secrets of the villagers that hide from the ghouls and its very gruesome to say the least
me neither, I played this game 3 times but more than that just gets pretty stale , besides the awful gatekeeping lvl design that forces you to do the same each time, it still one of the best open worlds out there
I did but figured it was for some side quest I hadn't found the contract for yet(didn't know the reference at the time). It's cool they just put stuff like that in the game.
I noticed it the first time I came out of the small chapel. I was like "Wait, something isn't right!!" 🤣 I was so unsettled and immediately drew my sword waiting for them to attack.🤣
I bought the game recently not knowing how scary it is until I experienced it - cave jumpscares and for me even when using witcher sense is uncomfortably eerie cuz it gets quiet while amplifying everything u hear (branches especially).
Did u forget the wine ritual stadium in Tousaint? Near that mutation lab lake. The prison on spikerog? The three walled sky prison overrun by bandits on an isle in skellige? The first time u land on Undvik is the single most scariest experience in witcher, especially when u spot that mysterious tower thing from far. And the score.....oof!
That's monster in the forest reminds me of the first time I played fallout (new vegas) and I saw a deathclaw I legit threw my controller and ran out my house I was the biggest wuss at that moment
If I remember correctly, the Godling's name is Sarah, and I think she might have moved objects around to try and spook Geralt. I think at that point you know what a Godling is, so the player does feel some relief because she is harmless.
if you kick her out of the house she was haunting you can see her again with Johnny at the Mountain with the giant oak tree atop its summit, learned that in my second playthru :D
The curse of Marlene is actually cast upon by Gaunter O’ Dimm. (Btw this is definitely confirmed and not speculation at all because when you talk to Marlene about her curse she describes the beggar as a merchant of mirrors or something like that and Gaunter’s theme plays in the background whilst she says it)
The area where the ancient Leshen resides surrounded by this pack of wolves that protects it is the most creepy part of Novigrad. In fact all the northern parts of Novigrad are infested with giant spiders so that is already super creepy. Man I'm going to replay that game for the 3rd time now.
Gonna have to check these out on my switch! Love this game, specially portably! P.s. its skell-i-gah...not skellage...thats what they say themselves. Falcon did you even play this? Or are you reading a script?
Has to be reading a script. My issue with these types of games is the way to pronounce the odd words is literally in the game and 99% of them are spoken.
The ancient elder vampire in the hidden cave in the main blood & wine quest towards the end definitely scared the crap out of me. I agree with this list minus Crows Perch and the order of scariness could vary. Pretty cool though. Still many places not mentioned. It's a game that you basically wanna explore and complete every possible thing and play more than once trying different plot choices. Best game I've ever played.
Falcon killed me at the end of the first one with the stone angels when he quietly said "no...Don't do that" 😂 also him scarily peeking through the blinds was hilarious lol love him
The Caretaker was one of the most memorable monsters for me!
Agreed. His Shovel isn’t too bad either. Makes a cool sound too!
His shovel was badass weapon.
Tough sob
Yah me too
He's very "Dark Souls-eque"
One of the creepiest moments in the game is when the children at the crossroads start singing Gaunter O'Dimm's theme.

Olgierd and Iris storyline is the saddest story in the witcher game. 😭
I was genuinely really saddened letting Iris go, and felt better giving Olgierd a second chance at life. Gaunter O’Dimm took away his heart and with it all of his emotions, making him incapable of thinking properly or making good choices.
Is the old man the cannibal from the other dimension? It's been a while since I read the books.
Why didn't I know of these
I think I trusted the old couple
Ur writing is interesting, I'm looking for a writer for a project. What do you do, where are you from?

You mean the Vampire Breeding cages in Tesham Mutna?
And what about the unseen elder's lair?

5 years later and I still feel like overall this game hasn’t been topped.

Witcher 3 is best fantasy open world game.
Rdr2 is the best wild west open world game.

I seem to remember the story behind the "noon wraith" ( I called her the lady of the well.) to be different than a lord killing everyone in town.
The scariest thing, which Falcon didn't mention, is jumping into the well and swimming around down there mostly blind. Terrifying. ..

Fell in love with the game... That's the thing with CD Projekt, it's a rare kind of game with a 100% love to give, and its all there.
During crookback bog missions, the thing that really got me in my 2nd walkthrough was that if you haven't progressed enough in the story and you go in the middle of jungle and close to that creature which was located under a big tree, out of noooowhere he calls out to you and tell you to stay away. That really freaked me out.
One thing you forgot to mention in Crookbag Bog is that the orphanage ran there as a “farm” for the crones to raise the kids and eat them with soup
Also worth mentioning the quest (a tower full of mice) it’s so creepy it deserves a mention on the list, also Orianna’s orphanage and its secret, the twisted take on the classical magic world in (blood and wine)

Goddamn I'd forgotten about that stadium theatre. The ghost crowd man. Gave me the chills.
@@abhiramboralkar5782 yeah man. That was so creepy I was double minded to do that quest.
We all know the creepiest part is when we realized what roach sounds like
That's monster in the forest reminds me of the first time I played fallout (new vegas) and I saw a deathclaw I legit threw my controller and ran out my house I was the biggest wuss at that moment
Such an incredible game 300hours played done absolutely everything and is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Can’t wait for another instalment
Still the best game ever in 2020
Then what is?
@FoxRNG me too.
@FoxRNG please name 1 game better than TW3
Not for everyone, personally The Witcher 3 is one, if not the most overrated game in history.
@@MrGunners98 yeah... all the 200+ goty awards were overrated ...
Gonna have to check these out on my switch! Love this game, specially portably!
P.s. its skell-i-gah...not skellage...thats what they say themselves. Falcon did you even play this? Or are you reading a script?
"Did you even play this?" Well based on the fact he doesn't even know to use yrden on wraiths... probably not
Has to be reading a script. My issue with these types of games is the way to pronounce the odd words is literally in the game and 99% of them are spoken.
Oh shit the crones were traumatic. Their whole quest line, just... oh my god!
