It’s funny seeing these reviews from people who have never suffered from the Texas heat of the summer. Coming to visit for a series and saying how the old ballpark was much better does not really mean much.
Two years later and this is not aging well. Brutal summer and every day people walking out of GLF look at the old hotbox across the street and they're not remarking on its supposed beauty. They are just thankful today's game was not there.
I actually posted a revision to that at some point either as a Short or on Twitter. Somewhere. Yeah, the heat can definitely be brutal, so I get the idea of having it closed and A/C tight, but the park is still a bummer. It's just so damn bland, and the disrupted sitelines throughout the park are a real (unpleasant) surprise. But yes, I get it. It gets hot. (I've been to games in the old park in the summer, and the new park too. I traveled to Texas 4 times last year.)

They r putting awkward angles in many stadiums but this is another thing. And the cherry on the pie is the plenty visible "all u can eat" behind home plate
I honestly don’t care how plain the ballpark looks, I’m just glad they finally have a roof and air conditioning, that heat can be dangerous. The heat also effects the players, especially the pitchers, which is why the pitching sucks because nobody wants to play in a ballpark in 108 degree weather.

Good review thanks. I was there for the same weekend series as you were. Sort of strange how they have a new ballpark already. Texas Live was great. Ballpark has totally different feel when roof is open. I've been to all MLB ballparks, some that are gone, plus a few football stadiums to boot.
Haven’t been to it yet, but so glad we don’t have to deal with the heat. The new stadium will grow and develop character. But he is right, the old park had Texas style. It was a fort, it was unique and had so many details that you liked to spot. Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.
I dont understand why they even needed a new stadium. The old one was perfectly fine. And being able to park right across the street from six flags was a bonus
It’s mind-boggling to me too, but I heard that the original plan was to keep the old one and build a retractable roof over it. I can’t remember if that’s correct or why it didn’t happen but if it’s true and it fell through I guarantee you that’s because they thought it’d be a better use of the hundreds of millions it would cost to retrofit a roof to make a new stadium.
I think they have nailed it in being a party spot. Full service bars all over the place on the concourses, and they have integrated it very nicely with Texas Live , creating a pretty nice 'ballpark village' bar and restaurant scene. Its similar to its other neighbor, AT&T stadium, traditionalists are going to hate it , it's 'sterile', and there is nothing distinctive about its architecture inside, but its comfortable and it seems like they can herd people in and charge them whatever they want. Rangers have had nice crowds considering the state of their franchise now and being in the middle of a pandemic a lot of people are afraid of.
I agree on the Texas Live spot, but they could have done a lot of that with the old park too. St Louis and Philly have them too. And in-park, I like the layout of the 100-level concourse too.
They CAN charge what they want, but regardless pandemic or not, they have a hard time getting meat in the seats, excluding their good run back in 2010/2011. They went to the World series for two years and they act like they are a powerhouse in baseball.
Texas Live has a handful of restaurants and things to eat, but none of it looks that much better than what you can get in the park. There are a number of restaurants w/in less than a mile walk from the park though.
Funny little note. The photo of Fergie Jenkins at 5:42 you can clearly see a small piece of sandpaper on his glove. He said something like, wish a different photo was used when he visited lol
Dear stadium architects. Please take a look at the old Comiskey Park. You can fit alot of people in a small stadium where everybody has a great seat. These third decks at these new stadiums are way too high and way too far away from the field. Thats why they are always empty, nobody wants to sit there. Those seats might work for football, but not baseball.
Every time I see this park I wonder why on earth they made it look so much like the Houston park, their closest geographical rivals. It makes no sense. It reminds me of when the owner of the Browns got ousted then making the Bengals franchise, Clevelands geographical rival, and gave them the exact same uniforms the Browns had because he was petty.
It somewhat resembles Houston inside because they are domes, but outside it's not even close. Minute Maid is a bit of a dump. Globe Life closely resembles Truist in Atlanta with the bars/restaurants in the surrounding area.
I enjoyed the Ballpark every time I went. Hot as hell each time, but still fun. Minute Maid looks like a literal dump from the outside, but it's a great place to watch a game.
Headed to see the struggling Yankees next week. I agree the layout just doesn’t look the same like they installed “social distancing” in the lower bowl lol

I honestly don't see anything wrong with it. Texas Stadiums NEED a roof. I remember 100°+ games and it was kind of miserable even for in shape ppl. And if you sat where the sun shines good luck. There's my two cents
It's just staggering how many obstructed views there are. Literally every level. I was there again today with a friend of mine and we literally sat there and started pointing them out.
@@ImSoWoke I think my biggest criticism of their lower bowl is that the baseline and homeplate club sections take those rows further away from the field than most parks. Safeco is my home park, and the seats go all the way to field level on the lower bowl, so you feel a lot closer to the action than I did at Globe Life. It felt like the grade/angle of the rows at Globe Life were deeper, which pushes you back a little further too.
@@BlockingThePlate I agree with that completely I love the old stadium layout and the feeling of being so close to the field you can touch it from the front row. I wish they would have stuck to the same layout with a roof as the old stadium. Old one > new one. It's no comparison in my opinion. The Ballpark in Arlington had character and felt like a classic baseball stadium. They should have just built a dome on that stadium if that is even feasible to do.
As a baseball fan and a fan of stadiums I have to say I really liked the Ballpark in Arlington, it was where I saw my first MLB game. I love the architecture inside and out, it’s very Texas feeling. The new stadium is the most bland of any stadium I’ve ever seen, Triple A Round Rock is another very plain stadium that people talk highly about. Globe Life field reminds me of the stadiums in Arizona, Milwaukee and Houston, all of which are my least favorite stadiums. But glove life is the worst. They could have done so much better when designing it
I've never been there, but it looks bland for sure. At least in Houston you have some funky dimensions, the train, and most importantly natural turf. I feel like Minute Maid is a dome disgused as a real ballpark and Globe Life is just a dome. If Houston can keep real grass why can't the Rangers. Also, when will they start building stadiums where the fans are on top of the action. Nobody wants to sit in that 3rd deck that's 80 yards away from the field and 100 feet high.
