    It would've be nice if he actually gave examples of oxidizers to use or brands .

    Thank you for pointing out how important oxidizing is. This is just me talking, I do not claim it will work for anyone but me. I am sensitive to chemicals, much more than most people. I tried different chemicals in my hot tub with limited results. Then I started to use hydrogen peroxide, when I did a fresh water change with regular salt, Epsom salt then added two cups of 12% hydrogen peroxide to start with, then one cup a week, depending on use (sometimes more but never less). I am the only one who uses the tub so I really do not suggest it if more than one person or maybe two uses it and no one else, but it has been wonderful for me. No skin rashes or any other side effects.

    Last time I checked, chlorine was an oxidizing agent. Need more info on this oxidizer you are talking about.

    New hot tub owner here, help please! I use bromine tabs in a chem connect on my inflatable hot tub. Everything on my test strip is perfect except bromine is testing 0, the water is slightly greenish, i have never shocked it but it's only been set up for a few weeks. Why would it be reading 0 bromine every time, I never added excess amounts of bromine , what am I missing

    Awesome, Thank you. Everyone keeps saying we follow the science of this and that but no one does it. You explained this to me, referencing the science behind it, and took my understanding to another level, Thanks again.

    so if my spa has an ozonator do I need to use an oxidizer?

    Thank you for the info. I’m new to hot tubs in general, and decided to go with bromine this year instead of chlorine. I read to start, use sodium bromide to establish a 30 ppm reserve, then add a non chlorine shock (potassium monopersulfate), then add the floater with bromine tabs.
    Do you agree? Also, should I wait a while after each of the three steps before proceeding? Thanks!

    When do I add more bromine into the tub? It’s been about a month since I last added 5 tablets to my fresh fill and I’ve been adding non chlorine oxidizer every week and after every use but now i get 0 bromine. I assume it’s time to add some extra bromine to the tub? How often should I be topping up the bromine tables to ensure a topped up bromine bank?

    Is sodium dichloro also an oxidizer?

  • @TamiVroma1
    @TamiVroma1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You said add a little oxidizer every time you get out of the tub....can you define"a little". Our 300 gallon tub get 2T per week of peroxymonosulfate. My guess would be maybe one teaspoon every time we get out.

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1 teaspoon per person per hour in the tub right when you get out. Leave the lid open for 15 minutes before closing.

    Oxidizer u mean to
    Shock it ?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      shock normally implies a sanitizer like chlorine or bromine. Oxidizer is sometimes called non chlorine shock also, so the terminology is confusing. So I avoid the term shocking.

    My pool builder is recommending a bromine pool. He does not like salt water pools. Is bromine easy to use

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bromine can not be stabilized. If your pool has direct sun you will struggle to maintain bromine levels. I recommend chlorine with UV as a really solid option for pool owners. www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pages/best-water.html

    Steve, would not an ozone system also act as an oxidizer? I am switching to bromine and also have MPS on hand to use after each use.

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes ozone would act as an oxidizer in this way reactivating spent bromine salts.

    Hi! I just got a new (portable) hot tub and chose to use Bromine as the sanitizer and saw this video... THANKS! Very informative! Are you familiar with the Leisure products? I have the Leisure RENEW granules, which says: Potassium Peroxymonosulfate (Equivalent 3.26% active Oxygen) 32.2%
    OTHER INGREDIENTS 67.8% -> would you say this is ok to use as the Oxidizer to reactivate the spent bromine?

      Oxy-spa from spa Depot works great. Any MPS product would work. Just make sure it's around 60% MPS.

    There have been times when I take a bromine level reading and the bromine levels look nonexistent, then I add oxidizer to the hot tub and the bromine levels spike way beyond normal levels. Are you saying in order to avoid that it may be a better idea to take the reading after adding oxidizer, and then determine if I need more bromine?

    • @Swimmingpoolsteve
      @Swimmingpoolsteve  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes oxidizer reactivates spent bromine salts. Instead of adding more bromine, simply use oxidizer to reactivate the bromine already in the water.

      Swimming Pool Steve my hot tub is not a week old before I used it the bromine is 0 I used the treatments they told me and they said it was safe to use the hot tub so I did for the first time . Took a water reading/sample to leslies pools store and still no bromine they had me so more things and today I took a dip stick test and it’s still at 0. Do you know what’s happening here? The tub is not but a few days old . I’m scared to get in if water is not right .

      Had this same problem. Bromine level was low. So I did research on videos and came across this video from Steve. So after I added oxidizer/shock. Now it's too high. Moral to this story is use oxidizer/ spa shock before you do a water test for any reading. This will give you the true reading.

      Most oxidizers are made from potassium monopersulfate The electrolysis salt water device will create monopersulfate gas from that, which is carcinogenic. you don't need oxidizers to activate Bromine in a Salt water system, the electrolysis device will do that automatically.

    Misleading information. One does NOT put Bromine in the hot tub. One puts BROMIDES in the hot tub which is a Bromine ion. This bromide does nothing until an oxidizer is introduced and then bromines will be available to sanitize. So the information was correct as far as putting in oxidizer to reintroduce bromine in the tub, but oxidizer must also be used at start up. Again, one does NOT add "bromine" EVER, they add "bromides", which coverts to bromine with an oxidizer, (chlorine, MPS, etc).
