  • This video shows how to place an intraosseous needle. This lecture from SWEETs 2016 includes a live IO insertion and illustrates that intraosseous access is simpler than most people think. Jonathan Ilicki and Jesper Scholander demonstrate tibial IO needle insertion (with EZ-IO) and offer tips on IO cannulation as well as contraindications.

    Great walkthrough! But what about other placements of the needle? What about children?

    Some IO’s are manual with no drill. We’re told to twist and push at a 90 degree angle.

      Ben H Yes, thats the way to go. 90 degrees assures the shortest way to spongious bone.
