My father had a saying growing up. "An animal is only as smart as it needs to be." A simple saying that pretty much means every animal is brilliantly smart at the things that matter to their lives. For example, squirrels and cats can do complex physics equations in milliseconds while jumping and climbing around.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about crows. Some of them are smart enough to use tools, make traps and bait them, and even use currency. They've been also seen experiencing empathy, making sure that every one in their flock is well taken care off, and even held grudges against certain humans while making friends with others.
"He died suddenly" I've heard of birds dying suddenly after the lightbulbs were changed, or after they bit something that otherwise isn't known to be toxic, but is to birds. Seeing how the bird lives in an artificially-illuminated environment full of painted blocks and various synthetic materials, maybe it was exposed to one of these unusual toxins? Just a guess.
i imagine because it's literally his life the things he was exposed to were closely monitored for their safety to birds? but not sure vid quality makes it seem like it was from a while ago, so its possible standards weren't that high. but if its a toxins thing wouldn't they be able to find out?
Birds instinctively hide their illness because in the wild they would be left behind or be targeted by predators. What seems sudden to us could have been an illness building up over time, it's why you need to monitor a birds behaviour thoroughly and if you notice so much as a change in mood or energy you rush em to the vets because even if a bird loves you and trusts you to the max, it's instinct tells it to hide how sick it is from you because you might abandon it.

It’s very possible that Alex was rescued from a bad home or breeding program and just never fully recovered his plumage. Sorry for being a bird nerd and writing a paragraph!
He had a heart condition and plucked due to his physical illness. Alex, and all of Dr. Irene Pepperberg's birds, was one of the most well cared for captive parrots on the planet, his condition was congenetal, not stress induced. Also, the number 1 cause of plucking in African Grey parrots is low humidity, not stress or boredom. The best analogy I heard for what animal is the smartest was "It's like comparing tools". A Hammer, Screwdriver, Saw, and Drill are all great for their own unique purpose and you can't really say one is better than the other because they all excel at something different.
I think the reason monkeys have such good memories is because their evolution revolves around their social structure. They need to remember everyone in their group and neighboring groups too. As well as food and water locations and all the dangerous creatures

Parrots pluck for many reasons: boredom, stress, mental trauma, skin conditions, lack of showers, low humidity, improper sleep, poor diet and often when they just aren't feeling good. Technically you are not dumber since you can operate inventions and understand concepts We don't call creatures dumb for not understanding human features or smart because they can, we usually call them smart based on how they live, crocs are smart because they usually go around rivers when there are migrations, not because they can count
Here’s an interesting thought: chimps have the incentive of a treat. They wouldn’t do it if they got no treat at all. Why not put up the same guy for a human with a $1,000 reward. Wanna bet it would automatically increases human ability?! 🤣
Yes but you have to remember, although many animals seem “dumb” or “smart”, we are measuring *their* intelligence in correlation to *our* definition of intelligence. And because *we* might not need to use our skills to survive in the wild, we adapted some more, “comfort” items or gestures. And of-course most animals DO need their natural skills to survive in the wild, so they are vastly different.
You the best bruh, I'm watching you for about 3 months already and I still don't know if your voice is after made or live like when we see you in videos
I mean to be fair.. Those animals are damn smart, smarter than we‘re in some things.. But the fact, that we‘re able to test the intelligence of other animals.. I kinda feel like that in itself is smarter than all other animals are..
That chimpanzee spent it’s entire life doing that memorizing game Automatically explains why it does it better Also we know only humans can code that game So u can’t say they’re “smarter” through one trait
@Sora Lee I completely agree with you; it’s impossible to judge intelligence through one trait. Thought you’d enjoy knowing that the chimp footage was from a National Geographic special and the chimp which we saw on this video clip is less than two years old (at the time it was filmed) he is the fastest at the memory game. (way faster than the adolescents & adults in the group…) in fact his only serious “competition” is his own mother -> who also loves to play this game. The scientists that work with this group of chimps provide them with a beautiful environment (as close to nature as possible) and they’re only able to test the chimps when the chimps decide to enter the testing alcove (which is easily accessible from their living quarters) so the chimps decide whether they want to play the game (or not ) the chimp that you saw in this video like his mother loves to play this game and as a result he’s become much faster than the rest of his family group. And by one year old he surpassed his mother’s speed & accuracy at the number ID game… I guess what I’m trying to say is that there’s variations and there’s a genetic as well an environmental component. ✌🏼
Your stupid you cant say that just because they coded the game they are better right off the start look if you've seen it then you know that the guy who coded the gmae couldn't beat the best chest player the program he developed could
Humans are not getting dumber, but we finally begin to understand that we have many flaws and internet makes it even easier to see those flaws. Think about the dark ages, people believed anything back then, so we are definitely progressing
@@Canal10000 I suppose it's a matter of perspective. You and I use different metrics for measuring intelligence. We might be more intelligent on average than 1000 years ago but I'd be hesitant to say we're more intelligent than 50 years ago. Hence my hypothesis that as a whole, people are getting stupider 😀
Meanwhile I have a friend He:*send message then delete it Me:"what was that?" He:"ummm I wana borrow some money" Me:"oke delete that again!" Truely the smartest animal
My humble opinion about Alex death is. He knew and felt was treated as an experimental object. The project he was put on, was ONLY to measure his capabilities to learn and retain human's symbols, shapes and languages applications but it appears that his rights as bird and emotions... were completely IGNORED. Who would enjoy to be left alone in an "Office Lab" every nights after a huge mental effort ? ( stress, repetitions , corrections... dealing with subjects absolutely not natural for him) Disregarding feelings. They are a Flock Creatures. If there are any ritual, very important for these types of animals is to spend the night together with their family members. Just, treat others INCLUDING ANIMALS.. the way we would like to be treated... Specially if we were subjects of experiments.

And because *we* might not need to use our skills to survive in the wild, we adapted some more, “comfort” items or gestures. And of-course most animals DO need their natural skills to survive in the wild, so they are vastly different.
WATOP: Who's the smartest animal?
Me: My brother.
You the best bruh, I'm watching you for about 3 months already and I still don't know if your voice is after made or live like when we see you in videos
Your content is really amazing. Keep it up man!
I mean to be fair.. Those animals are damn smart, smarter than we‘re in some things.. But the fact, that we‘re able to test the intelligence of other animals.. I kinda feel like that in itself is smarter than all other animals are..
Animals are surely getting smarter each day! They are outdoing themselves eveyrtime!

the parrot last word was the same thing my dad said to me before he died when i was in second grade. miss you dad!
That chimpanzee spent it’s entire life doing that memorizing game
Automatically explains why it does it better
Also we know only humans can code that game
So u can’t say they’re “smarter” through one trait
@Sora Lee I completely agree with you; it’s impossible to judge intelligence through one trait.
Thought you’d enjoy knowing that the chimp footage was from a National Geographic special and the chimp which we saw on this video clip is less than two years old (at the time it was filmed) he is the fastest at the memory game. (way faster than the adolescents & adults in the group…)
in fact his only serious “competition” is his own mother -> who also loves to play this game.
The scientists that work with this group of chimps provide them with a beautiful environment (as close to nature as possible) and they’re only able to test the chimps when the chimps decide to enter the testing alcove (which is easily accessible from their living quarters) so the chimps decide whether they want to play the game (or not )
the chimp that you saw in this video like his mother loves to play this game and as a result he’s become much faster than the rest of his family group. And by one year old he surpassed his mother’s speed & accuracy at the number ID game…
I guess what I’m trying to say is that there’s variations and there’s a genetic as well an environmental component. ✌🏼
Your stupid you cant say that just because they coded the game they are better right off the start look if you've seen it then you know that the guy who coded the gmae couldn't beat the best chest player the program he developed could

Great to know that a mokey is smarter than my younger brother

Oh so when octopus has multiple personalities he is inteligent
But when i have multiple personalities i have dissociative identity disorder
Animals are getting smarter and people are getting dumber.
At some point we'll be the same intelligence.

Truely the smartest animal
My humble opinion about Alex death is. He knew and felt was treated as an experimental object.
The project he was put on, was ONLY to measure his capabilities to learn and retain human's symbols, shapes and languages applications but it appears that his rights as bird and emotions... were completely
IGNORED.
Who would enjoy to be left alone in an "Office Lab" every nights after a huge mental effort ?
( stress, repetitions , corrections... dealing with subjects absolutely not natural for him) Disregarding feelings. They are a Flock Creatures.
If there are any ritual, very important for these types of
animals is to spend the night together with their family members.
Just, treat others INCLUDING ANIMALS.. the way we would like to be treated... Specially if we were subjects of experiments.
the part about the octopus having small brains in its feet is pretty accurate. when you kill a octopus the tentacles still move
