Love that you make a full track with these dead tunes, that way you can practice the whole song and not just a vamp over the improv jam section
Yeah, I love jamming, but in the end it's all about the song. To me anyways. Loops are great for working out ideas, but are so far removed from playing in real situations with most bands.
These tracks are the best on TH-cam
Thanks, you're too kind!
Been listening to this on loop all morning as I work (DEFINITELY making the work day better -- great way to kick off Monday morning) -- thanks so much, Jeff!
Glad you enjoy it!
Really appreciate the changing scales along with the music! Makes it much easier to practice shifting between scales with the song
Glad to hear they're helpful.
Thank you very much for making and sharing these, so I can play with my favorite band.
Happy trails!
No problemo! Glad it's helpful.
I'm loving these tracks and I can really tell how much effort you put into them by the quality of the content! Keep it up!!!
Thanks, glad you like them!
Great job, thanks. Very well done, it's a great heap for me learning this song on vocal and guitar.
Thank you for all these Dead tracks bro.
No prob Alex.
Thanks. I liked that it’s a live version track with the minor jam thrown in that’s not on the studio version.
No prob David!
And yet another one knocked right out of the park. Great job! And thanks!
Thank you too!
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar yer quite welcome, I really enjoy them. Like a lot of players who use backing tracks for practice and fun, I have several of the actual Dead tracks--sans both guitars, and usually no vocals--and while they're great of course , I really am digging these new ones, especially the sections as the jams ensue where it seems to beckon a "space" endeavor, which I really like. I've been playing about 45 years and first saw the Dead in '74 with the giant Wall of Sound. And when Jerry passed away on my birthday (8/9) I became the Jerry Lama, which of course is a serious obligation and responsibility. Any thoughts on doing a Wheel?
@@wehaveasituation Yup, definitely will get to Wheel at some point.
Great track! Thanks!
No prob and thanks!
Man your Dead tracks are the best out there BY FAR. Thank you so much for providing such a great base for us to jam off of. The jam sections are always the perfect length; plenty of room to explore for a while. I love the way you do all of the instruments as if they're actually sitting in the room with each other, playing off each other the whole time as well. It's not just the same repeated basic chord progression, it has the feel of an actual song, which is rare for backing tracks. I even find myself able to play off some of the phrases that I will hear in the bass or keys or rhythm guitar on these tracks, so it really has a cohesive feel the whole time almost as if I am playing with my bad. Definitely the closest I have gotten to that with a backing track, so I commend you, sir. Excellent work.
May I ask which program you use, or how you go about making these tracks?
Comments like this one make it all worthwhile. Thanks! I keep changing up how I create tracks experimenting to get things better. Now I hire a keyboardist that's insanely better than me and just started using live drummers. But this was an early one that I did myself. Starts with 1. charting out the song 2. sketching out the drums in Logic using Superior Drummer 3 (stupid name but it really is the best!) 3. bass 4. gtr 5. keys (Keyspace) 6 mix it down and put it all together as a video. I'm a real purist in many ways and I never thought something like this would work and it's challenging at times but I just focus on trying to get better with each attempt.
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar That's awesome man, I really do appreciate your work. At one point I just realized that all the best backing tracks that I kept coming back to were from you lol. It definitely does feel like a real, accomplished keys player is on these tracks as well as a real drummer, so know that your hard work putting all of this together is appreciated. It is truly the next best thing to having a real band playing with you because it essentially is a real band playing off each other, just minus the lead guitar. Really cool, man. I tell all my dead head musician friends about your tracks as well and they always dig it. Plus the lyrics and chord structures on screen make it easy for me to practice my singing as well when playing through tracks, which is another great practice tool for me. Your lessons are also super informative and awesome as well. Sorry to talk your ear off with all of this lol, just wanted to give you a heartfelt thanks for your content.
@@STSGuitar16 Thanks so much for all the thoughtful feedback! I'll be worinkin' non-stop creating more while I'm stuck inside. And good to know the lyrics are helpful. I just started adding that.
First off AWESOME!!! This is one of your best "Complete song" Dead backing tracks. I know I was critical of one of your tracks about accuracy, but 99% of this track is dead on! (lol no pun intended), and I was even impressed with the Gm7 parts at the end. It was so authentic, in fact, that midway to jamming to it, I turned to my PC screen to see how much time the video had left. Hahaha I was almost expecting you to come up with that mid '70s extension to the jam colloquially known as "The Seven" starting with those, but then evolving into Eb Dorian, C dim scales, that awesome riff on Eb minor, then D min. But there wasn't enough time left I realized. Anyway, Awesome job!
I would ask one favor, if you can. Not a criticism, just a request. Will you please re-record this with one minor change? Ha! No, not the Sevens. I know how to play that whole part, but I doubt most of your viewers do. But if you can add about 3-5 minutes to the beginning E Maj 7 jam that would be amazing! The song would be near perfect.
Awesome!!!
Thanks!!
JEFF IS THE GOAT!
Great Job, thanks for sharing !
Thanks, anytime!
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar Can you do Seňor by JG too ? I love this version
Put it 1.25 speed for a coked out 78 eyes 😂, these tracks are great. thank you!!!
When that G# minor hit at the end jam I got the chills! So close to that Warlocks version when they went into that cool little jam at the end.
Keep a look out for a new and different version out in the near future...
Yes
Right outside this lazy summer home
You ain't got time to call your soul a critic no
Right outside the lazy gate of winter's summer home
Wondering where the nut-thatch winters
Wings a mile long just carried the bird away
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world
The heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own
Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings
But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenings and songs of it's own
There comes a redeemer, and he slowly too fades away
And there follows his wagon behind him that's loaded with clay
And the seeds that were silent all burst into bloom, and decay
And night comes so quiet, it's close on the heels of the day
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world
The heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own
Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings
But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenings and songs of it's own
Sometimes we live no particular way but our own
And sometimes we visit your country and live in your home
Sometimes we ride on your horses, sometimes we walk alone
Sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs of our own
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world
The heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own
Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings

Really groovy band from Australia who's handle is Sticky Fingers. Worth a looky see. The do a cover of Rihanna by Fleet W/MAC. Tasty treats to say the least. Jam on world, jam on💙⚡❤
this is great!!!!...please make a help on the way in F?
Thanks!
Hey there love the vids and backing tracks was wondering if u had any insight to what happens at the end of most eyes jams , seems to me it goes diminished but I can't figure it out, a good example of this is the eyes from October 19 1974 , the portion I'm referring to is at about the 10 min mark , thanks hopefully u can help
Just checked it out. Wow, what a great version! And there's a really high quality video of it too, except it's only half the tune.
Yeah, it sounds the same to me as in the backing track. G# natural minor. There was a lick Jerry played where he stresses the b5 (blue note) that gives it sort of a diminished sound. He, along with a lot of players, will use the b5 as a note that takes it more "out". I'd try adding that and with other songs too. Hope that helps.
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar thanks I'll try it out when I get home !
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar hey if u liked that jam check out the dark star warf rat dark star from 2 18 1971 it's honestly incredible I know ull dig it, there's a couple good versions on u tube
Cool, I'll check that one out. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm actually planning on making a dark star track sometime this spring, so I gotta start diggin into some version for ideas.
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar ooooo can't wait to c the vid man , I love dark star , that one darkstar warf rat dark star is one of my favorites , live dead has great darkstar , I really like the sandwich from the "nightfall of dimonds" album too. Hey would love to see a music never stops aswell, that spacey part the do in the middle of the jam , steals my face every time lol
Check out a band from Chicago, "The Main Squeeze" this sounds like them. Their Dead covers are amazing.
I've seen a few of their videos and they're awesome! Have a Cigar was great. I didn't know they did Dead covers! Definitely gonna check that out.
How about "Mountains of the Moon?"
I love what I hear but don't really know how to read that. The green is root..right? I guess it's to beyond me, but awsome. Of someone has an easy explanation..I'd love one
Yup, green ones are the roots (E in this case). Other ones...dot take some explaining but best thing to do is try them out and let your ear guide you. I have a playlist of videos explaining music theory if you're interested. Here's episode 1: HOW TO » Fully Understand THE MAJOR SCALE th-cam.com/video/DQ4pCUWOqJM/w-d-xo.html
