@@IrieBlessJah not as viable as they once where. Didnt get to play them with the fix but pre-fix they where horrible being one shotted by bosses. End game they MAYBE more viable but leveling probably not so much. Reason I say maybe in endgame there is alot of paragon nodes that help with skelly defense. But again will see. I think if rax is right though 4/10 for survivaliblity of your skellies is still way to low. I would rather see it around 7/10 or even 8/10

The only “issue” I have with this guide isn’t really an issue but more of a request. For your leveling guides it would be awesome if you included a link to a spreadsheet or something that lists what to pick at each level-up while leveling to 50 according to your guide. That way we wouldn’t have to refer back to the video constantly while playing. As it stands, I plan to re-watch this video (and your prior Sorc video) and pay close attention to jot down what you took at each level. Either way, your guides are awesome and I look forward to more in the future!

Tys Rax I have almost the same build, but deep down in my mind, I can't stop myself from testing the skeletons as well on my way up. The Necromancer without his army hits differently.

@@BadSeymur in D3 my main was always Necromancer, then Wizard, and at the very end I discovered the amazing Rogue, but again main will always be Necromancer, and by that I mean in any game.
Hey Rax, I tried out the build in the ss and it was godlike. I soloed the lvl 30 stronghold in like 15 min without dying thanks to you. GJ at theory crafting and keep up the good work.
Please make one for skeletons. Or how long can we use this build to transition to a minion focused build? Necromancer for me is stupid without minions so hopefully late game they do good enough… :(
Minions become trash in midgame and bone necro is the only viable build for the late game. The only pet you're gonna have later on is the blood golem and only for the damage reduction it provides. At least it was like that in the lategame beta, since they nerfed minions lately I doubt that summoner got more viable since then. As someone who only likes to play true pet classes in arpgs: yes it sucks there isn't a single dedicated summoning class this time.

Skeletons were so bad in the stress tedt that you are handicapped playing skeles. If you want to use them just go ahead and do it. But be aware that they all suck

Awesome guide Raxx! Sadly im a sucker for summoning builds and would love to see a build for it. I will however try this one out for sure. I struggled last beta with necro and got frustrated.
Hey Rax, your videos are god tier. I played this build in beta and had an incredible time. I just want to add that I used +essence on my items in addition to all those stats/+skills because there was no cap to the ossified passive. I had around 400 essence and could one shot anything on the highest world tier, every item i farmed i made sure it included + to essence in order to max this out.
Maybe it's just me, but I tried Decompose and it was awful. It seems like the corpse only generates after 2.5 consecutive seconds channeling, which I found super impractical unless you want to face tank enemy abilities imo. Reaper skeles and the lucky hit passive are pretty reliable sources though.
@@niconic3 Yeah, I tried Decompose on the Server Slam and there didn't seem to be any internal timer that was saved between castings, so you indeed had to channel for the full 2.5 seconds if you wanted to spawn a corpse, and the timer would reset if you stopped channeling before then. For a full-pet build with pets that are able to tank without dying, this isn't an issue. However, if we're still dealing with running out of pets on bosses, then it will quickly become unpleasant, to say the least.
This sounds like a great build, Raxx, but I'd really be interested in a summoner build because I'm terrible at pulling enemies into exactly the right place to use Bone Spear. So I wouldn't mind being a babysitter for my skeletons, lol. If you have the time, I'd love to see your take on the summoner build!
I would say for the first 10-15 levels, u can keep ur skellies out as assistance until u get your skill bar filled. funny, i was looking at a build, came up with one i would say 90% the same as think, but once Raxx explained why, it made sense and i switched the different skills. thanks for explaining why u took X passive and not the other :)
Thanks so much. I played necro on both beta. Funny enough I played without summon on the first and with summon on the second except against ashava where I used a blood build for survival. Love the bud and I am set to play necro at launch.
The hewed flesh passive completely solves corpse generation on bosses. It gives you 4% per point to generate a corpse when you deal damage. Double that bonus on elites. I had zero problem keeping my skeletons up or making more when I needed since I had unlimited corpses. I was also able to spam corpse explosion on bosses which was so broken

Anyone watching this, consider using the skeles until you unlock your golem because they can just act as a wall between the enemy and you for a small dps sacrifice that doesn't really matter early game.

The corpse explosion pools also can proc hewed flesh to my knowledge. The pool also stacks so you can spam it, it's ticking everywhere spawning corpses all over allowing for more pools.
I really liked the shadow passive movementspeed node during the server slam aswell. Its like 9% ms for 3 points which i thought is a decent tradeoff. It gets applied for a long time whenever you corpse explode with the shadow pool node

Love the build. I'll definitely be trying this along the way. Very happy to see bone storm in the mix here as I'm excited to use it not just for this build, but maybe longer term if the aspect that makes it do shadow damage as well as bone turns out to be worthy of an end game build. You mentioned in the video that the cool down lucky hit from decrepify will help reset the bone storm. I'm wondering if you have an estimation on about how much. Will it sometimes be enough to have perma bone storm, when in nice density, or even then will it just help the cooldown as opposed to resetting completely? I was thinkin I'd need to take rapid ossification to cooldown more for each 100 essence spent, but if not needed, great. Also, in the video you mentioned both crit chance and crit damage being good in this build, I love that bonestorm also gives us +20% crit chance while active. Its a fun way to get more value out of the bone storm. Thanks again for the guide.

Thank you soooo much for these builds and those to come. I love Corpse Explosion and am okay with just a golem and no skelies. Now I just need to decide between the Chain Lightning Sorc and the Necro. It's a nice problem to have.
Over all I think it's a very good guide. only one thing I don't agree its max corpse explosion, I think 1 point is enough, and no need to enhance it. For bone necro, corpse explosion is a skill to consuming corpses in order to generate essence. Move those points into other useful passive skills to max bone spear's damage and max Grim harvest.
First, love all your guides. Ran into your channel about a year and a half ago, and I have not looked back. In terms of using skeles, I'm kinda the group you first mentioned. You're not a Necromancer with little bony dudes at your side. That said, your build has worked great with skeles. Im only level 18 (very passive player) and I am loving your build with my skeles. Don't know how it will shake out at lvl 25 but for now things are working well. And.........yes, I want to see a Skele guide.........PLEASE!!!!!🙏🙏🙏 CHEERS🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
On paper everything sounds solid, but it seems weird not to have Blood Mist and using the immunity as a means to break out of enemy CC. With just having the Golem, that's not an option unless I missed a replacement option for enemy CC in the vid? We've only seen act 1 in the Open Beta/Server Slam.. I can't imagine later enemies not doing some funky things.
First build I have seen that uses Bone Spear, Corpse Explosion and doesn't forgoe summons entirely, very cool and agree with most of your thought process 👍

@DarthCorlagon that's what I was thinking as well. Which leads me to this point: don't put more than 1 point into corpse explosion. Those 4 other points can be spent elsewhere

I am between rogue, sorc and necro as a starter. After the Skele revert I was leaning toward necro but I didn't realize skeles were not reverted to their original glory. This bone necro makes sense, all looks good and synergies nicely. This may be the one. Thanks for the guide.
I've always mained Necro and it's hard to imagine playing without skellies. I'm digging the bone spear build and it's pretty much what I used during the SS, but I'm meant to command the dead, y'all. I'd love to see you take a crack at a build with skellies. Maybe it's sacrilege, but I'd rather level slower than level without skellies. (yes, yes, I know, you're judging me rn)
Hey Raxx, love the builds. I played something very similar to this against Ashava (no golem ofc). Do you normally make these guides for solo and/or group play? I think this build would shine in a group more then solo or for someone's first foray into hell. I will be playing a Hybrid Bone spear build with skellies. Ossification as the Keystone.

Its pretty straightforward, but you put it nicely together, thank you. Summoners will probably use points from BS for minions and use CE as support skill as in D2 with decompose.
This helps a bit, have to watch the two pulverize druid videos next. Trying to decide the day before launch whether or not I want to stick with necro as first class or switch to druid since I can't do the pure summoner build I wanted.

The challenge I am having is finding the right weapon for my necro at this level and from( lvl30-50). Do you upgrade rare loot or should I go to veterans mode to get better drops ? Hi there, I used skellie summoner during server slam, and didn't feel bad even before the nerf reversal; if anything, out of all the characters I leveled during all 3 betas, this one felt the best, bosses just melted, and I didn't even see them die as often as some people claim (I rushed the %hp/dmg passives on the tree as soon as I could get to them). They also didn't die that much on Ashava, I used reapers with the corpse generating passive and didn't even have to decompose that often. I like your content and I was hoping you would do a build guide for a summoner necro specifically. So, if you have the time, please do make one!
I would love to see a vid from you explaining your thougths on when you swap items or not, like you mentioned for weapons to swap every 5 levels because its your main source of damage. I did not know in the server slam whether chaging a good bonus for more dps on an item or not
so i may or may not have been in the end game beta and there may or may not have been a legendary item that made skellie mages cast blizzard which may or may not have made them super OP so there are options if people really want to use minions (though of course this is all before nerfs)
I think adding a build that includes skellies would be great. They could get buffed, but also a lot of folks (myself included) want to play that particular fantasy necro with tons of undead minions. I appreciate that this build is awesome, but especially on my first playthrough I'm gonna play the most "fun" build for me.
Haha im sure you right however im literally opposite, for me Necro is the only one I want to play (look/armor wise) but I just dont like army of skellies around me. I can handle Golem being only one. Cheers!
@@oaksmadoaks Hey, I think that's cool. The best part of how Necro was designed is the ability for everyone to choose which version of the Necro (all the pets, just skellies, just golem, etc) they want to use. The Book of the Dead is a fantastic piece of design.

So many people are sleeping on the Blighted Corpse Explosion + Hewed Flesh combo. It was godlike in the server slam.

skeleton is a sus build as you could tell from server slam

You can easily generate corpses with reaper skeles, I did that for the SS. Decompose also creates corpses rather quickly.

Also, in the video you mentioned both crit chance and crit damage being good in this build, I love that bonestorm also gives us +20% crit chance while active. Its a fun way to get more value out of the bone storm.

Thank you soooo much for these builds and those to come. I love Corpse Explosion and am okay with just a golem and no skelies. Now I just need to decide between the Chain Lightning Sorc and the Necro. It's a nice problem to have.
I wonder if you could make a golem focused Necro build work with the paragon board. I loved the bone golem build from LE.

Over all I think it's a very good guide. only one thing I don't agree its max corpse explosion, I think 1 point is enough, and no need to enhance it. For bone necro, corpse explosion is a skill to consuming corpses in order to generate essence. Move those points into other useful passive skills to max bone spear's damage and max Grim harvest.
First, love all your guides. Ran into your channel about a year and a half ago, and I have not looked back. In terms of using skeles, I'm kinda the group you first mentioned. You're not a Necromancer with little bony dudes at your side. That said, your build has worked great with skeles. Im only level 18 (very passive player) and I am loving your build with my skeles. Don't know how it will shake out at lvl 25 but for now things are working well. And.........yes, I want to see a Skele guide.........PLEASE!!!!!🙏🙏🙏 CHEERS🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
On paper everything sounds solid, but it seems weird not to have Blood Mist and using the immunity as a means to break out of enemy CC. With just having the Golem, that's not an option unless I missed a replacement option for enemy CC in the vid? We've only seen act 1 in the Open Beta/Server Slam.. I can't imagine later enemies not doing some funky things.

First build I have seen that uses Bone Spear, Corpse Explosion and doesn't forgoe summons entirely, very cool and agree with most of your thought process 👍
Great content!! Rax, i know you have to start the journey with Barb, but hypothetically if you can choose to start the D4 journey with either Sorc (your build from yesterday) or Necro, which one would you choose?
One thing I noticed in the slam was that no matter how many points I put into corpse explosion, the amount of damage the miasma did never changed.
It seems miasma's 110% damage ( th-cam.com/video/eUcJUouiVow/w-d-xo.html ) is calculated based on your character's damage, not Corpse Explosion's one.

@DarthCorlagon that's what I was thinking as well. Which leads me to this point: don't put more than 1 point into corpse explosion. Those 4 other points can be spent elsewhere

I am between rogue, sorc and necro as a starter. After the Skele revert I was leaning toward necro but I didn't realize skeles were not reverted to their original glory. This bone necro makes sense, all looks good and synergies nicely. This may be the one. Thanks for the guide.

I've always mained Necro and it's hard to imagine playing without skellies. I'm digging the bone spear build and it's pretty much what I used during the SS, but I'm meant to command the dead, y'all. I'd love to see you take a crack at a build with skellies. Maybe it's sacrilege, but I'd rather level slower than level without skellies. (yes, yes, I know, you're judging me rn)

Hey Raxx, love the builds. I played something very similar to this against Ashava (no golem ofc). Do you normally make these guides for solo and/or group play? I think this build would shine in a group more then solo or for someone's first foray into hell. I will be playing a Hybrid Bone spear build with skellies. Ossification as the Keystone.

For ashava I loved corpse explosion dark pools. With the 24% chance to spawn corpses I constantly had her in 4-6 pools

Its pretty straightforward, but you put it nicely together, thank you. Summoners will probably use points from BS for minions and use CE as support skill as in D2 with decompose.

This helps a bit, have to watch the two pulverize druid videos next. Trying to decide the day before launch whether or not I want to stick with necro as first class or switch to druid since I can't do the pure summoner build I wanted.

Thank you for providing a great breakdown video. I am currently a lvl 20 Necro following a blood surge build but this build seems like a better build.
The challenge I am having is finding the right weapon for my necro at this level and from( lvl30-50). Do you upgrade rare loot or should I go to veterans mode to get better drops ? ( still haven’t finished the campaign)

I used skellie summoner during server slam, and didn't feel bad even before the nerf reversal; if anything, out of all the characters I leveled during all 3 betas, this one felt the best, bosses just melted, and I didn't even see them die as often as some people claim (I rushed the %hp/dmg passives on the tree as soon as I could get to them). They also didn't die that much on Ashava, I used reapers with the corpse generating passive and didn't even have to decompose that often. I like your content and I was hoping you would do a build guide for a summoner necro specifically. So, if you have the time, please do make one!

Been following this build on my necro over the weekend and found the golem that sheds corpses to be much more effective especially on bosses
I would love to see a vid from you explaining your thougths on when you swap items or not, like you mentioned for weapons to swap every 5 levels because its your main source of damage. I did not know in the server slam whether chaging a good bonus for more dps on an item or not

so i may or may not have been in the end game beta and there may or may not have been a legendary item that made skellie mages cast blizzard which may or may not have made them super OP so there are options if people really want to use minions (though of course this is all before nerfs)

I think adding a build that includes skellies would be great. They could get buffed, but also a lot of folks (myself included) want to play that particular fantasy necro with tons of undead minions. I appreciate that this build is awesome, but especially on my first playthrough I'm gonna play the most "fun" build for me.
Haha im sure you right however im literally opposite, for me Necro is the only one I want to play (look/armor wise) but I just dont like army of skellies around me. I can handle Golem being only one. Cheers!
@@oaksmadoaks Hey, I think that's cool. The best part of how Necro was designed is the ability for everyone to choose which version of the Necro (all the pets, just skellies, just golem, etc) they want to use. The Book of the Dead is a fantastic piece of design.
This looks really fun. I tried to make something like this in the beta's but this is far more thought out than my haphazard attempt. I will be attempting this build or something real close I am sure at launch.
