    the little spout is also necessary to eliminate the danger of steam pressure build up under the lid. The simple but clever design elements are obvious!..very tempted....

    Useful video and some nice kt. You mentioned the chamfered bottom on the dome lid pot. Having a chamfer or curve is good for stopping food from burning in the corners when cooking on an open fire.
    One problem I have found with smaller kettles on some stove, is that more heat goes up around the edges of the kettle and it has taken me longer to boil water using a 0.8L ketter, than it did with a 1.2L saucepan, on my trangia clone cooker. I no longer carry the kettle, but carry an extra pot, which actually has more uses. Just a side thought.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point. The wider the pot, the more surface area for the flame to touch, the faster the boil, the less fuel used. Thanks for commenting

    Here's a hack I've used for putting space-saving handles on improvised cooking gear: The metal duct sealing tape that's rated for several hundred degrees of heat could be used to make a fold-flat handle for that pie pan when you want to use it as a lid. Take a strip that's maybe 4 inches long. Fold the middle 2 inches in on each other so they stick together in an inverted 'T' and affix the outer sections to the center of the 'bottom' of the pan (or the 'top' of the lid). You can put strips of the tape across both of those ends to help keep the center from trying to pull away when you use the improvised handle to lift the lid. You can even punch a hole in the doubled center section if you want. Rounding the corners off the tape before application makes a more wear-resistant handle.
    The HVAC tape is pretty durable and holds up to repeated bending and unbending without tearing. Fold it flat for packing and when used as a plate (or fry pan), and pull it upright to use as a handle to lift it when it's a 'lid'. Easy and cheap to make and replace if needed.

    The pot and billy pot are great! These have good improvements over traditional models, and they're optimized for camping. Boil, Cook, Steam, fry and even bake. You can do it all with this!

    I love the frying pan idea with oven potential. I wonder how it would be if they reconfigured the fry pan slightly so that two of them would fit together, one right-side up, one upside down, for the same effect you achieved with the pie pan. They could sell more product and the user would have two frying pans.

    G'day Mark, cant really complain about the ol' Zebra gear, they do hold up well and for the price, hard to beat IMO, but this Fire Maple stuff has more thought/features put into them. For example, I wouldn't normally consider including a bulky kettle in a pack loadout, ..... but nested, maybe I would.
    I have seen a specifically designed plate//lid on a frypan before, but to be honest cant remember where, in any event gotta be a good thing; since personally I wouldn't be cooking and eating at the same time, (on the trail anyway).
    I reckon a 3 sided wood burner makes sense, no need for 4, and the compound angles on this one would surely help to spread the heat more evenly over a wider cross sectional area.
    Thanks for showing this lot mate and look forward to seeing them in use. Cheers Duke.

    Hey Mark thanks for another great review! I have been somewhat sceptical of fire maple but I have to say those are some impressive looking pieces. I really like the new and improved Billy pot. What you said is true… What the billy pot could’ve been! I think I am the most interested in the kettle and I just saw on Amazon that they do offer a 1.5 L version… I needed one for my backyard for a cooking over the fire with the kids and that might fit the bill perfectly! There definitely is a lack of decent kettles out there (and the good ones from Norway are hard to come by) that you can use over the fire. I look forward to the reviews and some more recipes from you… One more thing, in your future videos could you comment about your experience with fire Maples warranty?!

    some more suggestions - the pot should come with an internal grate that can be specifically used as a bottom broiler or on its side as an oven, and the pie pan is a better idea than a lid (to keep cooking embers out) specifically (versus serendipitously) because you can also use it as a plate or an "oven" lid, however, it needs a rim and handle so that it seats securely but can be removed easily. Great products though. PS - I will be buying one BECAUSE of the Canadian Maple Leaf perforation pattern :-)

    Nice gear, but far too big and heavy for what I would need as a solo backpack bushcrafter. The Antarcti pot is of some interest, but heavy at 1 pound. They do have the Alti 900ml ti pot though which I am interested in. It lacks the the locking lid, but that does not trouble me much.
    Would be nice if they came up with some solo bushcraft sized items of what you showed us that would fit together (like maybe the pot the kettle and the frypan).

    I have been avoiding stainless steel pans. Someone told me that they are crazy sticking, that you need to have good temperature control to use these half good. The claim was that if you put your food in too soon, while the pan is not hot enough yet, it sticks, but if it's too hot it also sticks. This pan has some appealing features, though and i'll wait for your review of that. For me, i think, that pan would be perfect, if it'd be made of HA aluminium.
    I wonder about the stove, would it be usable with charcoal, if the feedport is covered with some perforeted plate?

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว

      From my experience, all pans can have food stick, even cast iron. Technique is is important, especially with stainless steel and titanium. You are correct about the pan not being hot enough before putting food in. I am planning a video on this topic. I just cooked an omelet in this pan with no sticking at all. I will test out the stove with charcoal. Thanks for commenting

    Very nice 😁.
    Do you think a small 110g gas can would fit inside the kettle? If they don't already make one you should suggest adding a grill to the stove .
    Probably won't have any trouble finding firewood this year thanks to Fiona 🌀💨🌳🪵🪓🔥🤠

      Unfortunately, the 100g canister won't fit inside the kettle. No problem with the billy though. **
