    This is the reason i no longer do plumbing, the good days are great but when it goes wrong its too much of a pain, i now watch others do the work and get paid more without the hassle and my knees thank me for it.

    Do what we do....we only fit stainless vented tanks now as we've had lots of new copper ones pin hole after a year or so. And best of all no tapins as it's all nut and olive :p ezay!!

    I wouldn't paste a fibre washer it stops them swelling to create the seal

    On the immersion heater , you put some ptfe on a tread don’t overload to much , ones that dry out it might leak without ptfe , than you can paste afterwards. The adapters for cylinder , the loctile , it’s not ideal, because it’s copper cylinder, will overcross the treads because loctile it’s mainly used on stainless steel pipe work , copper it’s to soft loctile will overcross the treads , use ptfe tape which is soft , you never have issues at all mate , few tips for you but don’t overloaded to much , like you do on a radiator tails . I hope that’s helpful info mate , apart from that you’re star mate 😅

    Parallel threads aren’t aren’t meant to be sealed with thread tape/paste.
    Loctite 577 works really well with a fibre washer.

    I noticed a shower pump on the job & no Surrey flange on the cylinder !!
    I only use cylinder unions ones from albion are awesome , always have some in the van .
    Using fe - iron on the coils is always going to cause you probs!
    You could of used vent & cold feed plugs save draining the whole heating system down ! Easier said than done at times ! Cylinder manufacturers always have a get out clause when they have warranty issues. I tend to use gledhill stainless as they come with a standard sec tapping 👍

    I've work in the plumbing and heating industry for a while now, the bit I just love the best is shown in the comments below, ask twenty different plumbers/gas fitters or heating guys how to do something simple and you will be supplied with twenty different answers. Not knocking anybody, I had four chaps in the office this morning arguing about PTFE tape application to the tail on a thermostatic radiator valve.

    I feel for you mate , I've had that happen a couple of times so I only use stainless unvented cylinders now and just don't fit the kit that comes with it , also they are usually nut and olive connections so are a lot easier to fit , with the price of copper at the moment they work out cheaper sometimes...
    Cheers....👍

    Cylinders can be a royal pain for leaks. I had one leak on the coil return fortunately I managed to save it with some thread seal.

    • @Clxyton_
      @Clxyton_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Worst part was that it was a manufacturer error 😭

  • @Martin-pr6ps
    @Martin-pr6ps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You have to be careful with those threads on the coil because they are copper threads and you can strip them so easily. I only use a little bit of hemp and pipe compound on those threads. Putting on too much loctite is a bad idea because as the fitting tightens it doesn't bite to the thread and ends up stripping them.

    As an ‘outsider looking in’ - this whole problem could be solved by the manufacturer - if he inserted the fittings into the cylinder as part of the production and then certified it with a WPT on the QC label. Pretty poor that you had to pick up their shite.

    • @chrisb4009
      @chrisb4009 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Irons are used to let you use different pipe sizes with the same cylinder. They also come in straight and 90 degrees.

    • @normanboyes4983
      @normanboyes4983 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisb4009 I acknowledge your experience but surely cylinders of this capacity are likely destined for the domestic market so a 28mm fitting would cover all eventualities - adaptors are available. At least you could the be confident that is has been pressure tested.

    • @chrisb4009
      @chrisb4009 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@normanboyes4983 There are a few issues with that:
      1) Things often get knocked in transit - so just because it’s sealed at the factory doesn’t mean it’s sealed on delivery.
      2) Cost, the factory have to pay for the fittings, someone to fit them and to pressure test them. Would anyone want to pay this extra cost?
      3) Damage in transit, empty cylinders are fairly flimsy, if you start shipping them with fittings sticking out some are likely to get smashed off/damaged.
      4) Flexibility - you can put a 28 straight iron on but what if space is tight and you need a 22mm 90 coming out? If you put your own fittings in you can choose a direction.
      5) Different markets - you may well be making cylinders for several different markets that use differ t piping classes or types. Like a US pipe may be in imperial sized MLCP but a British one may be in metric copper.
      You do get pre plumbed un-vented cylinders beside they have a lot of ancillaries attached and it would take hours to do (and there is a safety risk) but you’re talking minutes with a couple of irons.

    Such a pain when that happens especially when you drain it down re do everything only for it to happen again, then again, turned out to be a factory fault

    • @Clxyton_
      @Clxyton_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah cause I filled heating and cylinder then drianed both, filled both again, then I just filled the cylinder, not the heating side so once it leaked again I knew it was cylinder at fault haha

    After our cylinder sprung a leak and had to be replaced I had nothing but bother with airlocks no matter what the plumber did after a few days it would lock again it got to the point where I just said change the system to gas central heating as you don’t need a cylinder, then the cost of freaking gas hits the roof, yep I’m a lucky so and so, ah well at least no more airlocks, he said touching wood
