    Love the reactions. Out of all the EHX "9" pedals, I think this one is the coolest. You could do some great post-rock stuff with this and some reverb & delay, maybe some fuzz or muff up front. Potentially YUGE

    It's a good pedal for what it is and depends a lot on how it's played. Played with a synth/keyboard and only the wet signal; it sounds amazingly like the recorded/studio versions of the Mellotron we've all heard before. Again, it's what you run through it.I use mine predominantly with electric violin, either 100% wet signal or I mix it very low in the background, almost like a reverb shimmer effect (stings patch works well for this).

    • @ryank.creates9677
      @ryank.creates9677  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I will definitely admit I'm not much of a demo player because I honestly have no idea what to play. When I get a new music gadget, I pretty much just strum random things and play random strings just to try and get an idea of the gadget's dynamic range. For my next product demo videos I will have song snippets and such I will play that better suit the pedal.
      Thanks for your informative comment and for visiting my channel!

    • @MrArchonta
      @MrArchonta 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Absolutely true. For electric guitars (and especially for nylon string or acoustic guitars), you need to place a really good compressor before MEL9/C9/B9/KEY9 pedals, for adding the proper balance and sustain to your tone. If you use both such guitars and electric violin through any of these pedals, you need a D.I. Box with different load settings, to accommodate the noticeable difference in instrument impedance. What a wonderful pedal MEL9 is...

    The Mel9 is polyphonic. That's why it works with chords and bending strings. Playing J.S. Bach with this pedal is amazing. EHX-- my first pedal in 1979... still pushing the envelope.
    Play this along with some Steve Howe or Fripp tunes and it sounds great.
    Enjoy!

      @MFKitten 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Interestingly, there's the Roland virtual guitar system where you install a hexaphonic pickup on your guitar and it triggers sampled guitars. No joke.

      @@ryank.creates9677 I have the roland hex pickup on a guitar with a boss floorboard thingy, and it simulates different pickup types and instruments and stuff. It's way better than I had expected, and lots of fun, but I haven't ever tried the guitar synth floorboards and stuff. The tracking based stuff is way too finnicky for me to bother dealing with, but the simulated pickups and acoustics and stuff is great.

    • @arno-luyendijk4798
      @arno-luyendijk4798 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, maybe I can answer that because the 12 string has become my favorite instrument of choice the last months. I can assure you that the sounds combined with this pedal are way beyond expectation: when you set the mix on halfway, you can get the Moody Blues sound with guitar and the famous mellotron combined into yourself, as mentioned in my comment above, it also gets you the sound of most George Harrison songs, and with a little turning of the knob presets and combined with a phaser, you can get the "reverse loop" guitar sounds as on many Beatles' songs on the Revolver album and on their song Rain....the ongoing discoveries are too far out to be mentioned in this comment alone

  • @brauliozuniga8638

    Master, I feel that on the 4th string there of the 15th or 16 fret the sound drops considerably and just as it goes down to tone towards fret 12 or 10 the sound increases, is this normal in the master pedal?

      @hansneervoort6167 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤔 This seems to be the more versatile pedal
      of the two, with richer, more polyphonic sounds
      and just a wider range in general (and I have both). A great option as well: EHX Tri-Parallel Mixer will blend multiple pedals in parallel instead of series. It depends what style you're aiming for, but the Mel 9 seems to be more of
      a "classic" sound... ☮️+💜+🎶

      @@RepukeinScapegoat ... i said "pretty much". there are small differences but nothing worth what a mel9 costs.

      theID2 got mine 100 used mint in box last week love it but not for everyone, I find THE EHX MEL 9 incredibly helpful for intros and Layering also sounds good with distortions through a 4 channel patch method if u have a dedicated loop out in the head or rack depending what u use with it

      @@RepukeinScapegoat .. i think our uses differ. going for distortion i'd assume you play electric. i'm an acoustic player and don't care for muddied sound

      theID2 i like acoustic ASWELL ,UT WHAT YOU JUST SAID SIR IS BLASPHEMY!! Lol
      ON ELECTRIC ITS REALLY FUN I THINK PRIMARILY THATS WHAT IT WAS BUILT AROUND FOR ELECTRIC PLAYERS EVEN PLAYERS THAT PLAY SOLEY ON CLEAN CHANNELS NO DISTORTION OR GAIN STAGES ECT TRY IT THROUGH A ELECTRIC.
      By the way I’ve heard friends use it through pianos/ bass even electric drum set .... the mel9 through a drum set is off and everywhere sounding like dropping acid speed and shrroms and having the worse trip of your life
      I put it though a PA and used my voice that was fun but hard to control since I don’t sing primarily I do backups occasionally

    Is it just my Mel 9 or do they all wildly fluctuate in volume on separate notes. This pedal is extremely frustrating to record with? As far as I am concerned this is only a beta version that should not have been released to the public.

      You have to make sure you run lots of volume into it. if you go directly from the guitar into the pedal and you're a very light picker, you'll get those fluctuations. Try either playing a bit more aggressively, or run some kind of boost (volume boost like an LPB1 or maybe a compressor) before the Mel9... that ought to smooth out the volume.

      It DEFINITELY has very delicate volume sensitivity. I've found putting some kind of limiter after it can help with that. Like a compressor. And the tracking noticeably improved for me after putting it in the effects loop rather than plugging my guitar into it directly. Its still not perfect, but i am now happy with it.

    Have the decency to put 'unboxing' in the title so we know it's just not worth the look.
