  • www.roverparts.com Atlantic British Repair and Maintenance How-To Video: Watch Doug, our Land Rover Master Tech, remove and replace the engine in our 2000 Discovery Series II with one of Our Exclusive Remanufactured Engines. Doug goes in-depth in this engine installation, which in real-time should clock in as a 10 hour service. We recorded the process starting in January 2017 and finishing in November 2017, working on it when time allowed. It actually sat for months, as we had other things on our schedule to work on.
See www.roverparts... for more info on remanufactured engines.

This is unbelievable. Atlantic British, and Doug specifically-huge thank you and kudos. Doug is like a celebrity to me, guiding me through countless repairs and maintenance over the last three years that I’ve owned a Disco 2, and it runs incredibly smooth with no leaks, unbelievably enough. The engine doesn’t need replaced yet, but I’ll be replacing it myself when that time comes, and it’s unbelievable that you guys have put together this video to make that process all the smoother. Thanks a million you guys.

Love all your videos. Today I removed my 4.0 block from my 2004 D2a. Somehow I had to remove 2 extra bolts from underneath of at about half he 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock position 🤷‍♂️. Otherwise it was pretty straight forward thanks to your videos. Now to get it repaired.

Nice tip to put the oil pan on after the engine is back in the vehicle, Doug. Seems easier to put the pan on while the engine is still out, but that makes tightening the torque converter bolts unnecessarily difficult. Having the pressurized RTV for the oil cover and cruciform seal joints is key. Very nice work!

You forgot to mention that you have to take the torque converter bolts out!! or the engine wont separate from the transmission (at least on automatics) Followed the directions and all went smoothly until that part.

Atlantic British - Great videos and products from you guys! Really appreciate you sharing the knowledge. Wondering if you can help me with the bell housing bolts...Following the RAVE, I've removed 8 out of 12, all from the bottom side. I cannot find the other 4 I'm supposed to remove before getting to the last 2 on-top. I think I see one of the bolts on the drivers side higher up, but its right up against the body and I'm stumped on how to get to it. That's only one though...Really not sure where the other 3 are...

Removing the intake is nearly a must. Removing the heads does make it easier, but you can work around them if you are so inclined to leave them in place.

I'm having so much trouble making my engine fit into the transmission. The crankshaft and torque converter are already lined up and conected, but it wont go all the way in and I have a huge gap between the transmission and engine block on the lower part. I already placed the top 4 bolts, but the gap is still bad underneath. Am I doing something wrong? Any tips? Would the gap close ones I mount the engine on the motor mounts? Thank you

For those of Us, who may be able to do quite a bit mechanically, but are not really "mechanics" ... it really would have been helpful to have something mentioned about ensuring that the torque converter is fully seated, before bolting up the engine.
I realize this is a basic concept, but it was completely skipped over.
I had trouble getting the engine bolted up, not realizing that the tq must have come out some, when I removed the old engine.
Not seeing that the tq was not fully inside the bell housing, and working by myself.
I managed to jam the engine into the tq because I had a gap on one side which I solved by putting bolts on where I could, and then drawing it together by tightening the bolts.
Until I went to bolt up the tq, and realized I couldn't rotate the crank pulley, or the tq I had no idea I had a problem.
Idiotic, I know... but the rest of the tutorial is so simplified that even someone like me thinks it is doable, and jumps right in... so a word about the tq, and ensuring it is seated would have been incredibly useful.
Now, I have to determine whether I have damaged the transmission, front pump, etc.
Thanks for your time and consideration, and have a great day.

Why would a relatively modern engine have sleeving problems and head gasket problems? Land Rover was owned by BMW and Ford at this time. They were aware of the issues when they bought the company.

Theres nothing "modern" about this engine. Look up "Rover V8 engine". GM Buick engine from 1960's. Its been modifed and improved over the years but its just an old block that GM scrapped long ago...

    • @julianus_dux_bellorum9585
      @julianus_dux_bellorum9585 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Furthermore I imagine the new owners (BMW/Ford) decided aginst throwing a completly different engine and drivetrain into a outgoing model that was soon to be replaced by the LR3/Discovery 3.

Land Rover does some really, really stupid shit. the Torgue converter bolts are absolutely stupidly engineered, whomever thought that bolting a thin plate to a convert with the least amount of access possible should be publicly flogged in front of their children.
