    I first seen this video scrolling through kayak mod videos and did think much of. Until I watched it. I've changed my mind I don't know how many times on trolling motor mounting and decided to copy yours. One reason is center of balance on location . I like the idea of every thing center. So, thanks for the info.

      Thanks Chris, one thing to note tho is i kept saying "angle iron" i did not use angle iron. I used angle aluminum. I did another kayak on my channel a similar way. Thank you for the watching and the kind words.

    Very cool, I just installed my trolling motor on the kayak and make allmost the same. The only changes was that I leave te controlling box on the back and extended the andle with 20mm aluminium pipe, that was the original measure. And to put the motor mast I just opened more the hole that I originally have to put the rudder. Beside that, it's very the same. In 1 hour I will make my first test at the Mediterranean sea. Hope that everything cames fine😊.

      @@krisnickfffs i just arrived home and have been making trolling fishing dor the first time and catch a nice white horse mackerel. Not to much but for the first time I have make my day ☺️.
      I love fishing with the trolling motor! Everything was amazing. I could spend my time fishing and enjoy the sea without any noise. The kayak with a old AGM 95ah battery make 4 hours at full throttle and the speed with my 32lbs motor isn't to much but it's enough.
      Next week I will try to make a video of my setup, but I have to do a mechanism to lift the motor to enter and get out of the sea at the beach, because now I do it by hand and have to be on the water. This could be a issue if there are big waves. Today was easy with 20cm waves, but isn't allways like this.
      Has soon I post the video I will let you know 😉

      @josefialho6650 im super excited for you man. Yes i figured out a way to lift the motor up. Its kind of hard to explain but i used 550 cord to be able to pull it up from my seat and drop it when i need to. Check out my channel, i have another kayak video where i installed a trolling motor on a D10 ascend kayak.

    Very informative information. Kudos to the author. The post is older. I now have the same yak.
    I would appreciate any current feedback as of 7/2019 on the battery used. I sent a message to the maker of the battery. He answered promptly and mentioned that the battery has been adopted by many kayakers. Nice guy.
    Can anyone who has purchased the battery chime in their experience on the water. I would appreciate hearing how long the battery actually lasted. I've noted that other batteries in the 12V 30AH category, not from the seller, last only an hr. or so on the water. This point has gotten a tad confusing.

    • @krisnickfffs
      @krisnickfffs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Hugo, its been over a year now and i am still using the same battery. It still will last me a good 3-4 hours on the water but ofcoarse i am not constantly using it the full 3-4 hours. I usually paddle to where i want to fish and then i use the trolling motor. I think if you ran the motor at high speed for full hour then yes the battery would definitely be drained. This video bellow is a very informative test of the 35amh and a similar trolling motor.

    • @krisnickfffs
      @krisnickfffs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      also there are 2 factors to consider worth noting on this video i sent you.
      1.) he is using a trolling motor in a bucket of water which simulates a non moving kayak being held in position which would cause a heavier amp draw from the motor.
      2.) When he stops his test he reads the voltage while it is under a load. (Battery capacity should be read with out a load on the battery)

      @@krisnickfffs I'm going to bother you again. Ha...
      1. When you connected the angle aluminum rod to each side of the kayak, you had to remove the existing fasteners. Did you drill them out? The new bolts on each side appear to be hex types. Were they straight screw-in bolts without and nut fasteners. I cannot find any way to attach a fastener nut to each because of their locations. I purchased straight screw-in type hex bolts and rubber washers. Pls. elaborate.
      2. You next mentioned that near the transom you attached the two aluminum runners directly to the kayak. But, there was no close-up pic to see what was used. To me a hex bolt would be overkill. What did you use? What type screw?
      3. Lastly, it appears that two long bolts around 6" each were used to fasten the wooden transom piece to the aluminum angle rod. Correct? I've seen one or two alternate
      Tamarack diy motors. Each was attached to the transom block via small screws, without going through the top of the transom block. I prefer your design.
      Once again, kudos. You are an imaginative and talented dude.

    • @krisnickfffs
      @krisnickfffs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hugie2011 Thank you for the kind words.
      1.) Yes i removed the existing fasteners and drilled the holes all the way through. I did use hex bolts but since the rod is aluminum i did not feel the need to add a washer on top but i did use a flat and lock washer beneath.
      2.) Yes sir i used hex bolt with rubber washers and again flat washer along with lock washer beneath. It was a bit overkill but for $0.50 a piece or less from home depot it never hurts to over do it.
      3.) I used a 5 inch bolt. I have been told i should have used different materials other then wood but i have not had any issues what so ever since installing it.
      I hope this helps :)

      I ended up mounting the battery right behind my seat. I used U-bolts and a strap to keep it in place.
