To be fair it's pretty on point value for the quality you're paying. Coffee at £2.50 is cheap. Farmers' products can be quite expensive but you're paying for top-draw produce and you want them to make a bit of profit to sustain themselves as well.

I don't think the prices are bad for produce that's been reared completely by them. Livestock are expensive, so to recoup any profits, things are obviously gonna cost more than mass produced lower quality stuff from a cash-n-carry that most places sell. So I don't really think the markup is bad at all.

    • @GaryEats

Other commercial farms are owned by conglomerates and operated purely on profit margins for their shareholders. The place is a credit to the team who built and run it. I completely disagree with your marking only 8 out of ten. You need to remember the sheer quality you are buying, and the fact that they struggle to barely make a profit on the farm (I work around farming and they are all struggling). I think it’s easily a nine - and due to the farmshop and variety of products, that’s pushing it up to a 9 1/2 for me. But, that’s just my personal opinion of course.

I’ve watched all the series of Clarkson Farm, l found very entertaining as well as informative of farming today. Since I’ve lived in Spain for the last 23 years I’m completely out of touch with the price of fast type food in UK, all of it sounds horrendously expensive. However l agree with you about ‘ you get what you pay for’..quality always cost more no matter what it refers to…..Cheap always disappoints…..

Whilst they're sadly expensive compared to supermarkets, farms like this sell the very best produce in the UK and we are truly blessed as a country to have so many of them. The only thing the Burger and the Bacon sarnie needed was a big dollop of Ketchup.......lovely! Gary, Another excellent and honest review. The food all looked good and tasty. However, I totally agree with you regarding the pricing, far too expensive for eating outside on wooden benches and pallets. Some of the restaurants you choose to review, you can see that large amounts of cash have been spent on the decor, as well as the staff employed there. But on this occasion, you had to go and get your own food and clear away after yourself - basically it's a burger stand and no more. If they don't invest in outside gas heaters then I can't see them putting many bums on seats in the Winter months.

id say if the food was taken to your table, not an issue going to bar to order, even chain pubs you order at bar and they bring to table. so my thought is it is pretty pricey but if even half table service so food taken to table when ready then id feel price is about right without basic i feel it is pricey for what you get, and expect to pay more its all local produced and good quality food, just add small bit service at least bring cooked food to you that should be a min

you definatly get what you pay for, and you know the animals have been raised well and cared for by a farmer that truly does want the best for their wellbeing. All in all, a fair price for the quality you get. The portion size is pretty good too, i mean, those slabs of bacon looked *beefy* compared to the filter paper slices you get at a supermarket.
Best part is you KNOW this money is going to the people that deserve it and not into the supermarkets profit stream. Thats the blessing of farm shops. everything you paid will go to Emma in the burger van, Kaleb, Jeremy, Lisa, Gerald and Charlie along with the helpers at the shop.

The food maybe the best in the world, but not everyone can afford it. So if you can great if you can’t don’t look down on someone who can only afford a £5 burger and chips meal.

@@DaleBaker-nz9fh I haven’t seen anyone ‘ looking down’ on people who cannot afford high prices on Gary Eats to be fair and I’ve been a regular on here for a couple of months now. At the other end of the spectrum I haven’t seen anybody deriding folk who can afford it with the usual boring and lazy responses of- ‘more money than sense’ or ‘ snobs’ either. It’s tiresome but thankfully doesn’t seem to happen on here. Whether it will as the channel gets bigger remains to be seen but I hope Gary keeps a lid on it because it’s a friendly little place.

Well done! I'm an American living in the Silicon Valley (in the San Francisco Bay Area of California). My wife and I would love to visit Diddly Squat Farm (and preferably before we begin having children). We love the show ("Clarkson's Farm") and want to see the UK outside of the large cities or traditional tourist traps. So, this farm and area would be amazing. Personally, I feel that those prices are very reasonable for the quality. I live in California -- where food and restaurants are much more expensive than similar quality items in places like Texas or Tennessee.

The quality was excellent but that bit expensive sometimes you have to pay for quality 🤷‍♂️🇺🇸🇺🇸

Another very solid review and I am catching up on a few of these after discovering your channel. It's very good for some interesting possible venues.
I totally agree with your marking and I particularly thought the burger was overpriced, £10 would have veered towards the quite expensive and £12.50 is just too much given the size of the burger. I am not a great fan of Jeremy Clarkson but did enjoy his Clarksons Farm series and in fact, he inspired me to start growing my own chilis at home, so much better and more satisfying than shop-bought ones.
How about some more food reviews of Thameside pubs particularly in the Rotherhithe area like The Mayflower, Prospect of Whitby or The Old Salt Quay, all produce some vary nice pub food with great views over the Thames. A real must in the Summer I feel.

Honestly really happy how high quality everything was and is. It's expensive but the price feels justified. You'd pay the same for any other higher quality local produce. It's not just a marketing gimmick for the show. They are genuinely trying really hard. It's really good for the local economy cause it means people will most likely come back. I understand the fear of something like this cause if it was just a gimmick. It might actually damage the reputation of the community.
I was really happy to see it's a collaboration of the surrounding local farmers too. Honestly not something Jeremy had to do but definitely glad he did. Make it explicitly for the local community first.

Not sure I will ever make it to the farm but my mouth is watering here. Have to say I would have "enhanced" the sausage and bacon with brown sauce and the burger with mustard. Just me.
    Enjoyed the video greatly.

When I lived in the UK I worked for a season on a caravan site in Northamptonshire - that was on a farm with its own cafe, farm shop and small butchery. They had pigs and cows and advertised that all the meat was from their own farm and the had (still have) Aberdeen Angus cows - bit of a scam as the meat was purchased from a butcher and delivered once a week in a large truck (complete pigs, joints etc.), then I had to cut it, prepare it, make sausages using a seasoning mix, make, season and press burgers from cheap ground mince, open large packets of sliced bacon and paint it with smoking flavouring liquid from a bottle and repackage it 6 slices per package and seal it - it was then sold and advertised as meat from the farm, home smoked bacon, home made Aberdeen Angus burgers and people would (still do!) pay top prices for the food as they think all the meat is from the farm. It is home made as it is all prepared there from imported meat, but not home made from the actual farm animals.

What I will say in defence of the price is that because of cheap supermarket food, we always feel hard done by when we need to pay more for local products. Even when it's superior quality. I generally only complain about the price if the food is bad. If hard work and passion went into making it great then I'll pay more.

That's the whole point of the café and farm shop, it's to try and make some money back to keep the local farmers going. Farmers no longer get subsidies from the EU Post BREXIT. The food looks delicious, the fries look scrummy, just the way I like them AND you're supporting local farmers. It's a fair price.

Been away from UK a number of years now, but in Malta, where avg wage is about €1100 pm, your avg burger is around €12, so considering the higher salary in UK, £12 for a burger doesn't sound bad. Cheers.

Looks ace! I’m actually pleasantly surprised Clarkson hasn’t been up his own arse and charged £10+ for a roll. Looking at the quality combined with the knowledge that all of the produce is sourced on site, plus he said the service was very quick, I honestly don’t think it’s too overpriced. And I’m a stingey buggar. 😂

I have to compliment your cameraman. He does excellent work and quite artistic, hard to do on the fly. I especially like the way he shows the food plates, starting slightly off frame and finishing full frame. That was a technique perfected and used in film schools demonstrated in the film "The Duelists". Great job.

Great review. Glad to hear Jeremy is producing top quality food. It's nice to hear there is a passion for quality there, not a jump on the bandwagon attitude. The food looked great but the chips were mediocre. I agree the price is steep but the location in the cotswolds probably influences that to some degree. Kudos to Jeremy for being realistic. An excellent review and I hope your channel grows as your reviews are exceptionally fair minded.

As usual very informative and down to earth. Personally avoid anywhere particularly busy and pricey, irrespective of quality, but reading the comments its apparent that many folk are prepared to pay the price's, so the view that we live in austere times would appear to be a fallacy.
