I just realized it now that the emotions in Miyazaki's films aren't so hyped like what modern anime animations are. I just started marathon-ing his films on Netflix. His characters feel more human despite a lot of fantasies and surrealism in some movies.

While this video isn't really unique among the vast ocean of Studio Ghibli-praising video essays on TH-cam- I often come back to this one just to watch the intro again. The creator's love for these movies really shines in those first 35 seconds.

I wish this had been available many years ago,! When I first discovered Miyazaki, soon after Spirited Away came out on DVD, I was totally unfamiliar with anime, and utterly enchanted with his films. When I ran through all of his available work I started looking into other anime, and with a few exceptions was left feeling let down. This could have saved me a whole lot of confused disappointment! I guess when you start with the best it's hard to settle for less. Since then I have begun to understand and appreciate other anime, but Miyazaki will always be my number 1!

Much like every Miyazaki Film, this video holds a special place in my heart.
should this video ever be scrubbed from the internet again, I'll never forgive youtube, but I'll be willing to reupload it on one of my channels when that day inevitably comes.
Miyazaki is a creative genius, I idolize him and many others as creative geniuses. I'll continue going back and rewatching Miyazaki films even after I die, that's how much I love them.
some people might not like his films, but that's okay, his films aren't for everyone, not by a longshot. I know that because I hear people in the film industry saying that his films are their most AND least favorite out of anything in the industry, and that's because... the films are COMPLETELY unlike anything America can put out. These films may not be perfect for everyone, but they are perfect... for me. and feel those films are the ones with the greatest impact, the ones that sacrifice there appeal to many, for the sake of being as powerful and impactful as they can be... for a few. for me Miyazaki films thread emotion and character into EVERY SCENE, for me it takes everything that the world knows and depicts it in fantastical yet familiar ways. for me... Miyazaki movies are... THE PERFECT FILMS.
and when I talk to people about how great they are, where... do I start?

one thing i've personally always liked about miyazaki's works, is, animation si the medium he chose, but his stories, (not talking about ones he made based on preexisting content, i'm talking about his original works) would work in ANY medium, book, manga, which some are, or film, or in the case of ni no kuni, we see how it can even work in games, that's what i think makes for a good show or movie, something that could be translated into any medium and still maintain even a pinch of it's magic

LOVE LOVE LOVE this video. Miyazaki is such a genius ❤️❤️❤️ However, I would argue @8:45 that the concept of traditional fantasy incorporating a strict dichotomy of good and evil, or even using those terms as such, is more looking at the commercial, run-of-the-mill fantasy and ignoring that not only the majority of foundational works in the genre (most of which have never been commercial successes) such as those by Mervyn Peake, David Lindsay, Jorge Luis Borges, Hope Mirrlees, Raymond Roussell, Alfred Kubin, E. R. Eddison, Olaf Stapledon, Fritz Leiber, Franz Kafka, Poul Anderson, Roger Zelazny, George MacDonald, Jane Gaskell, and Charles Williams, and even to a large extent slightly later works from people like Ursula K. Le Guin, Samuel R. Delany, Frank Herbert, Brian Aldiss, Octavia Butler, Angela Carter, M. John Harrison, John Crowley, J. G. Ballard, Suzy McKee Charnas, Michael Moorcock, Joanna Russ, Leena Krohn, Susan Cooper, Diana Wynne Jones, and Gene Wolfe, completely dispense of the good/evil dichotomy and instead are these very transgressive, experimental works examining expansive topical themes in surrounding science, religion, sexuality, class, gender, and race in a highly surrealist and introspective manner.

I wouldn’t say the emotional element is all that is to the success of ghibli. There is also the drawing style- simple yet realistically drawn characters but with a lot of detail to the background and the objects in it.

@@ParkersPlayground (Sorry for late reply lol). Idk, I'm not a movie studio. Sometimes studios delete videos, other times they simply copyright claim them. I'm not sure why movie studios sometimes do one vs. the other. Another possibility is that Studio Ghibli simply can't track down and delete every video on TH-cam that has its content. Even the original video was able to stay up on TH-cam for YEARS before Ghibli eventually took it down.
If you don't believe me that Studio Ghibli blocked the original video, click on this link here:
      th-cam.com/video/52raDbtNpa4/w-d-xo.html
[EDIT] Apparently, the link I posted now says the video is private. Idk why, but I'm 100% confident when I first got that link it said Studio Ghibli blocked the video on copyright grounds.
