How to Build a Rex Trap in ARK: Survival Ascended!

- I designed a rex trap, for ARK: Survival Ascended, that's cheap, simple to build, easy to use, and works automatically, without doors, so you can trap and tame a rex safely. Rex can be easily kited into the trap on foot, or on a tame, as the trap doesn't block creature pathing. Anyone on your server can use the trap, without worrying about locked or pin coded doors, when trapping and taming a rex. You can even expand the trap to catch multiple rex at the same time.

Awesome trap! Seeing those rexes walk into it and get stuck was hilarious, and it looks a lot easier than the one pillar trap. Could never remember how many pillars to use for that trap.

@@toastbloke Last nigjt my new bary kill a 150 Oviraptor I bolaed to tame. We had words he ignored me I let it go cuz he’s a bary. Many times in the future he will save me. Lol
Worked perfectly! Not at first, but I realized I used a roof instead of a ramp like a dummy. But remade it and got a nice Rex super easily.
I'm glad you got it figured out and working! It's so easy to make a mistake with so many variants all being grouped under the same piece! Even now I'm used to it, occasionally I'll cycle to little or too far through them!

Now im wondering of you can adapt to trap a giga or yuty, possibly using a 1/2 wall to get a variation on the snap heights.

This doesn’t work for a yuty, due to the size difference, sadly I can certainly take a look into making a yuty trap at some point though!

I've also tried this trap recently and it just doesn't work, at least for me. The rexes just walk around the outer side of the pillars.
I’ll have a look into it, but they keep tweaking things with pathfinding, so it works perfect and then randomly it will be really hard to get the Rex to walk in!

It would need some tweaking, but the principle might work! Got a list of trap recommendations from people to work on, so hopefully I can get to work on the giga soon!

I don’t think so as the building pieces are completely different, so the height with two pillars wouldn’t be right. It might work if you could get the same height using other structures though? Have you given it a try?

There's lots of potentials! I'd imagine it would be possible theoretically, but finding the right height might be tricky! I've got a list to work on that people have suggested, so I'll see what I can do! 😎

After finishing this normal series of ark you should start then the mod ark like ark mega and the upcoming mods like primal fear
Mods like that hurt my brain... which means I definitely need to take one on at some point and see what they're all about!

Can this trap be used for other dinos? Such as gigas, yutis, carchars...?
I tested with a yuty and it didn’t work. Turns out this is the exact height for a rex! I’ll take a look and see if I can get something to work for other creatures though for sure. Traps just make things so much easier!
The trap works, but on my first attempt the Rex managed to get back out after I shot him 9-10 times. But he was not done with me, so walked right into it again.
Well, at least it walked back in! Did it stay in the second time? Maybe it hadn't quite fully stepped onto the foundation?

Thank you! This trap doesn't sadly, as they are a little shorter than a rex. The gap between the foundations and ramps had to be very precise. There might be a variation I can find though. Had a few yuti requests, so I'll see what I can do!

I can't get the ramps to face the right direction. Doesn't matter what I try, it just won't work.
The ramps will only snap to the pillars naturally in one direction. You must have put the pillars on the wrong side of the foundations. Try moving them over. The ramps should still place in the direction they currently are, which will fix the issue. Let me know if that helps. Cheers!

Have you tested on an alpha rex?
I haven’t tested, but they’re quite a bit bigger, so I don’t think it would work, but you never know with this game!
Used this and it was amazing, until it bit a walking by anky, and the anky’s knock back bumped it out of the trap lol… I got arked
No way! 😅 ARK at it's best and worst! Hopefully you managed to get it back in and land the tame!
How do you look behind on xbox?
I use orbital cam to look behind. On console you can only access it through a radial wheel. I think you bring it up by holding down the select button, the one with the two squares on it and then selecting 'Orbital Camera'. Hope this helps!

I wonder if you've done something slightly different, or maybe it's where you positioned it? I just jumped on to test it and it worked all 3 times I tried it. If you can let me know more, I'll do my best to help. Good luck!

Rex won’t stand on foundation
There's a few common mistakes it could be, if you still want to get it working. Foundations too low is one. Using a roof instead of a ramp is another. Not placing the foundation parallel with the ground can cause issues too. Let me know if that helps! 🙌🏻

I don't think so, unfortunately, as the structures are different sizes and this relies heavily on the height of the ramp above the foundation.
If you need a trap to tame a rex , then just turn the game off and go play roblox or minecraft ffs .
If you need to make a cunty comment go play on train tracks.
Not everyone is competent at Ark.
If you need to type the same comment that’s been typed on every ARK trap video since 2015, I admire your originality! 🙌🏻
Why watch a video on how to trap a rex only to disparage the creator? Surely you have better ways to be productive than to troll threads built on positivity and creativity.
