I love this episode for these key scenes:
The next scene, when Michael says his mini speech to Ryan about ‘A good manager doesn’t fire people, he hires and inspires people. People, Ryan. And people will never go out of business.’ Might just be one of his wisest moments on the show. It demonstrates that he really does understand his business and understands what it takes to be a manager. This is also shown later on when both him and Jim are co managers, it’s clear that Michael is more of a leader and people-person than Jim.
And of course, the art show scene near the end of the episode is key because it shows Michael’s truly good heart.
I feel like the writers really started to nail Michael’s characters during these episodes, by giving him this much more depth.
