An amazing collection of wonderfully shot sequences.
The Qube east coast steel haulage between Melbourne and Pt Kembla, and Pt K and Brisbane has been disrupted by what was the NSW North Coast line closure due to floods (since reopened) and as of tonight, part of the Sydney - Melbourne rail line (through Bargo) not yet open again for freights, and the Moss Vale - Unanderra line AFAIK still closed. Hopefully theser two will reopen in a day or two.
That Huddleston sequence was magic while drone usage on the TAR showed the horizon and immensity of the Nullarbor. You can't include everything but it would have been great to briefly show the cross at Watson.
A 'comparison' video in time would be terrific.

A Comment about SCT Logistics service into Perth. They said the Federal Govt is not doing enough for rail freight around Australia. The freight tonnage to WA was dropping they said off before COVID so the steel contract mentioned will be welcomed.

The steel contract mentioned already exists with Pacific National. The only change will be SCT Logistics will haul it instead so no tonnage chances just the operator.
I do agree however that the Fed Govt should be doing more to support rail around the country. The Inland Rail is a start and it seems they're doing it right so fingers crossed more projects will be coming in the future to support more.
As far as freight into Perth, I heard more tonnage before COVID was being taken from east to west via international ships which don't pay Australian Taxes making it far cheaper. This however changed during COVID as less international ships were needed to move things in and out of China and more freight was put back on rail. Hopefully coming out of Covid the tonnage stays on rail!

Will echo the drone shots comments -Opens up the whole view particularly the shots on the Nullabor straight section. Did not realise so many steel products moved around.
Off topic but related -Looking at the track itself and the raised bank it runs on I was watching a Film Australia film dated 1914 about the Trans line (Thats what we called it in WA) and it showed the track laying by the teams. Horses and ploughs got the bed ready and then the bank which looks the same today, was raised with men and shovels and then the sleepers were put down by the crews, followed by a rail machine pushed by a one or two steam locos. Track laying Records for that period were set by the teams over flat undulating ground.

Thanks, Bill! Have Steve to thank for the drone work! He does a good job on his trips out that way! Hang in there, lockdown won't be too much longer.

I look forward to the steel train on the north coast (NSW) line as it's about the only variety we have from containers. Always good to see the AN green and yellow logo still showing (just) on some of the gondolas.

It will be interesting to see how Qube and SCT service this new steel haul contract.

Great work, excellent framing! What is the current route taken to get the steel from Whyalla to Newcastle?

    • @MS_Trains
      @MS_Trains  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks mate! Depending on the train some take slightly different routes. They all run Whyalla - Port Augusta - Crystal Brook - Broken Hill - Parkes. From Parkes 2YN2, 4YN2 & 7YN2 run via Cootmundra - Goulburn to get to Sydney and 1YN2 & 3YN2 run by the more direct route via Bathurst to get to Sydney then all services at the end use the same route up to Newcastle.

@@MS_Trains Thanks for the info. I work for Sydney Trains and I pass these freighters all day. I’ll keep a lookout and try and spot the ones originating from Whyalla.

@@austfox2170 From what I know the trains travelling via Goulburn normally come through in the night but keep a look out. A few other steel trains run though Sydney aswell from Melbourne, Brisbane & Wollongong.

@@MS_Trains I usually work nights until about 2am, so will keep a look out. I was in Peterborough a couple of years ago; does that town form part of the route between Crystal Brook and Broken Hill?

@@austfox2170 You might be lucky then! Yes, Peterborough is on that line between Crystal Brook and Broken Hill.

Thanks for an informative video. Are the overhead shots of the train crossing the Nullarbor taken from a drone? If so I would like to see more drone footage. I gave this video a thumbs up.
    Cheers Ken.
