I can empathize entirely with your excitement about that introduction.
Anything by Kafka - letters, journals - was like catnip to me when I was young. I read those, and this makes me want to reread him.

There is a movie from Derek Jarman ,Caravagio, with some excellent actors. I do recommend this. About Kafka: it is a must read for anyone who love horror and classics together. Letters to Milena are harmless in the horror way so anyone can read. Kafka was my favorite writer until I can live with that havy darkness. 18:15

I adored The Garden of the Finzi-Continis so I hope you do too. I didn't understand it to be part of a series. And yes it was me that enthused about Penance 😊

I have not read the book but I highly recommend watching the Italian movie from the 1970s on-line based on The Garden of the Finzi-Continis. It left me with a lot of questions about what really happened to those people. I also have only been focused on library book sales because the books are so cheap compared to bookstore prices, and I only buy what I will truly read one day. My TBR is too large now to continue to buy too many more books!

Wonderful video as always ❤️! You definitely need to update us on what you think about Kafka's letters! My most recent haul was 'The Complete Essays' by Montaigne, and I can't wait to get started on it. Seeing how much you like Richard III, I'm now tempted to get a book on him 😂.

I love seeing quotes from Kafka's letters on tumblr, though they make me go a little insane every time 😂the Caravaggio biography sounds so good, and that cover!! I'm also obsessed with these penguin nonfiction editions at the moment, they have such a wide range of titles!

Never knew the Garden of Finzi- Continis-a wonderful 1970s film too- is a Trilogy. I did read some of it years ago .

This is an eclectic mix! 😂 let us know what you think of the letters. I'm not a Kafka fan, but the letters sound interesting. I have been hauling Penguin versions of George Eliot as I'm reading and rereading all of her works in this next year.

Good call on reading all three books by Staphanie Garber one after another.
I started book 3 when it came out, and I'm soooo lost. I will be re-reading books 1 and 2 before continuing with book 3.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Italian Journey. Goethe and I haven't been friends since I re-read Young Werther 🙈

A note from someone who speaks German: "Goethe" is pronounced goo-tuh, with the emphasis on the second syllable. No "r" in there 😊✨️

Except in Chicago. We say “GO - thee” (with a “voiced” th sound, as if you were rhyming “bothy”). It’s a street name. 😂
