The Boulder Elk Experience with TJ Sanchez

TJ Sanchez has played the waiting game for an Utah Elk permit for almost 20 years. In 2023, he finally drew the one Non Resident Muzzleloader tag in one of the top units in the state, the Boulder. After 12 days hunting public land, TJ finally got his opportunity at a Bull of a lifetime.

Love that mountain, been a few years since I've been down there. Used to hunt mule deer for a couple decades down there, they've gone downhill as well. Sweet bull, that place is magical.

215 is doable with red dot or open sights, just not as accurate as a scope. Still have the limitations of the weapon, now just greater likelihood wounding animals whether it is 70 yards or 200. The new rule was a mistake.

I see you are using a smokeless ML- what bullet/powder combo were you using?

Smokeless is not legal in Utah. I was using a @vikingarmament 45 cal, 150gr blackhorn 209 powder, 300gr arrowhead bullets

@@tjsanchez3101 Any way I could connect with you? I'm a nonresident from Oregon with 30 points. With the new elk plan in 2022, I will most likely not draw an early rifle tag on a top unit. The Boulder muzzleloader tag is on my short list.
