  • Creating plasma in a simple vacuum chamber made of a glass cylinder and 2 aluminum disks. The high voltage power supply was arranged with a microwave transformer, variac, capacitor and a diode.
    Next step is to try to add a magnetron sputter gun to deposit metal on glass.

    this is the easiest and best plasma chamber design!!
    it even got the heat sink side ready.

    I have used everything from barbeque propane tanks to 1 gallon pickle jars. Your glass cylinder and simple geometric aluminum disks make a beautiful chamber.

    Just a tip. A long and narrow vacuum line is bad for the pumping speed. I would increase the diameter of the piping.
    But thumbs up for a very stylish looking chamber! :)

      That is very true! besides tubing is not that expensive and 130 militorr is still fairly high pressure for a vacuum. I like to get under 10 militorr. Also flare fittings are the worst, swagelock and others similar are much better.

    Its a pretty cool project and while it has been 2 years, have you made any improvements? I was particularly wondering if there is an inexpensive high frequency power supply that can be bought to achieve this. Something like a ZVS flyback transformer?

    hi, i didnt see a magnetron, is the voltage directly connected to the wrench on top ? then the ionization of the aluminum? in my design im using silicon or silicon dioxide with a magnetron . i modified a sputtering chamber into a rocket engine . with wave pulses of electric fields to create pressure on a high density plasma field . trying to see if it can be done now outside the microwave range . thanks for the video

    important question here what pressure in pascals did you need to go down to to create the vacuum for your plasma?

    • @yongx5023
      @yongx5023 ปีที่แล้ว

      In order to generate plasma, you'll need a combination of low pressure vacuum and high voltage. If you can have the voltage high enough, then no need to go lower pressure.

    • @diogohossain7232
      @diogohossain7232 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He does not heat the air to create plasma, there are several ways of creating plasma. Try searching for "Thought Emporium"'s video about plasma, he explains it very well.
      Basically he uses very high voltage to flow Electrons from the bottom negative plate, to the top positive plate and that creates the plasma we see; it needs to happen in a vacuum because the Air will get in the way of the electrons and prevent the plasma from forming.

    In all these below videos they are using only a 230 volt AC supply and passing it to a microwave transformer (230V, 50 Hz, 220 series preferably). The output from the transformer is hardy 2300 volt or maximum 4600 volt on using a voltage doubler. Should we use another tranformer in series ? If yes what is the connection? Can anyone provide me with a circuit diagram for the same connecting the transformer with a capacitor with or without a rectifier. Plasma can be generated only at 20000-30000 volt so how are they able to generate plasma at just 2kV. I am currently using a a chamber such that the space between the two metallic plates in about one inch. The vaccum that I have creeated is about 25-27 inHg (more than 150 micron Hg). If the voltage generated sufficient then how to get perfect vaccum ie 30 in Hg(less than 150 microns Hg). Please help me.
