-Do all the abrasive cleaning before last washing (before assemblying). Soak all cork gaskets in thin oil for half an houer (or more) to swell before mounting (no silicone gunk). -Make a tool to spinn the oilpump to pre lube the engine before starting. the distributor are conected to the to oilpump at the top, you can scrap an old distributor to make the tool. Spin the pump with a hand held drilling mashine (screw driwer). -The tubes conected to the cylinder head is part of the EGR-system, in the other end there are valves, they might be clogged and gets the engine to run badly. Check that the valves is working properly or give them to your nighbors dog to play wiht and plug the holes (EGR is for reducing NOX).
Hi Joyce, the parts of which you don't know the name are 'stoterstangen'. or pushrods. Like your video very much, cool you work you're doing this all by yourself
So satisfying to have a clean repainted engine! I agree, making the pulley grey was a great choice. Those dusty things you were cleaning are called push rods. :)
These are lovely engines!! Very reliable and economic, and very quiet and smooth on top of that!! They were fitted in Renaults 4,5,6,9,10,11,12,15,18,19 and the Express, and of course in my Twingo’s…. And in DAF 55 and 66… 0:35 I assume you took the oilpump apart for cleaning and inspection? 1:34 the timing sprockets look well worn, better replace complete with the chain…. 3:45 I love the way you carefully spread a thin coat of sealant on both sides of the gasket!!!… too much sealant can end up in the sump and cause serious trouble as it gets picked up by the oilpump!! 4:10 always lubricate a surface that is in touch with an oilseal upon fitting it. 6:45 greasing/oiling the cilindrehead bolts is a good idea but make VERY sure that no liquid (like that oil…) fills up the gap in the threaded hole under the bolts!!!!…. You won’t be the first one to tighten the bolts on that oil instead of tightening the cilindrehead!!! (It’s called ‘hydrolocking’) 7:55 adjusting the valves is important, but the ‘real’ adjustment can only be done after the engine has run for some time as everything has to ‘run in’ after being fitted. 9:12 those rubber seals that sit in the front- and back-mainbearings are troublesome!!… you are very right to put a little sealant on the ends where the seal touches the block; they are likely to ‘sweat’ a little in that corner!!! And check very carefully the seals remain in place when fitting the sump/oilpan; you won’t be the first one to take out the engine once more because it is leaking a lot because of this gasket!! Love your work and vids, thumb+subscription!! Looking forward to hearing it run… Greatings from Drenthe…
Oh to be young and working on the floor without giving it a thought. At 70, getting back up is a challenge. I always have a bench cleared for this kind of work.
Looks awesome ☺Maybe you did it outside the camera frame, or did you forget to add a tad little bit of oil on the o-ring of the new oil filter before installing it?
A bit late, but pushrods are often used to bring oil up in the valve train, so they may be hollow (very common with US engines). If that's so, make sure they are clean inside (spray some brake cleaner).
Nice job. That car is gonna get a new life. What's the Km/Miles on the car. Had it run for long time? I would like to have a 340/360 again. Not mutch tech that can brake. As in new cars. hehe Fuel, water and oil, and they last long time.
its so nice to see you use silicon correctly, it sounds stupid but i see so many automotive youtubers cake it on likes it icing on a cake!!! you just need a thin layer like you did :)
All abrasive cleaning and sanding should be done before installing or assembling anything so you don't have some miniscule abrasives stuck between shafts and bearings or get in the oli paths etc. Just to keep in mind in your next builds.
Should you not be sanding before you assemble stuff to the engine. So no dust comes into the cilinders or crank? Or do you have a reason for doing it after ?
Yeaaah I should have. To be honest I kinda forgot about it until I started on rebuilding the long block because I was a bit too excited to rebuild the short block 😂😅
Those old style big spring Compressors can be difficult to use sometimes. It's a pity you have already done the valve steam seals otherwise i would have posted you out the new tool for doing this...! It's much smaller and easier to use...! 😊😊😇😇
its hard to watch would love to be there helping her work on the car, its hard to watch knowing this is a love, all around the world. we are love cars we love bikes we love each other. If this woman was ever given propeer funding and a shot i bet she would make amazing cars same as i would. Watching her reminds me there is still hope for people. plus her tattoes are awesome.
its not heavy, you are like 5'2 and 120, I am 6'0 and 190. that motor is nothing to me. it's only heavy to you in that moment, its heavy to the rest of us ☺♥
Before i watch this, i want you to know before i just taught your voice was so cute and you did't do the work, i was wrong i am sorry, i apoligize to you. you know how it feels to have a wrench let got and smash your hand into the block. you know old fuilds from gear boxes are down right fucking gross lol point is i respect you, and shocked to see a woman like you. and i am from military and sister military, fact is you are awesome sorry i daughted you
sorry for the comments trust i owed you a sorry and i do know a lot, ( crank pistons valves intake valves springs ) and i would love to see it make to where you can full restore civics race them, fuck what ever you want you so will win just keep going. I feel so bad for my first comment to you, i put your bf does all the work huh, still feel like such a dick for that.
6:56 , I think they're push rods.
Yes they are push rods
Stoterstangen in het Nederlands.
Ahhh thank you!!! 😁😊

Kool! Wish there were more young ladies like yourself interested in these projects…
😘
Me too. It's so rare. Most of them don't even want to change the engine oil.

Hi from Australia. Nicely done. Looks great. Keep up the good work and enjoy 👍
@7:00 pushrods 😉
Good job 👍 nice to see it all back together
Back when the 340 was new, having the skill to rebuild the 340's drivetrain was already a necessity 😀
Great work! Thats a cool looking engine! Nice video, very helpful for those working with these! 👍👍👍
Thank you!!! I appreciate it 😁😊
Nothing better and clear than Dutch English. 💪❤
🤗❤️👍💯

Wow thanks for all the advice, that's very helpful! 😊😁 I'll keep it in mind

Amazing work. Well done
You did a great job on the engine.
Very good cleaning and painting.
I like it a lot. You're doing a great job, keep it up.
What a cute little and now looking good engine. I use a ultrasonic bath to clean the bolts. In my opinion a good result for next to nothing effort.
Yay! One step closer to completion!
they are called pushrods in the UK

Indeed.

True and fill them with oil.
Nice watching someone doing what I was doing when I was seventeen, even if thats sixty years ago.
awesome work so far! 6:50 they called valve pushed rods, also the sanding should be done before assembly to not get debris into the engine.
nice job!
the sanding somehow never ends... can't wait to hear this monster roar... 🦁
goed bezig joy
Always interesting videos :-)
great work! I can’t wait to hear it run and how it performs… 🎉 10:52 Joy’s pov: can’t wait what it *looks* like… 😅😊
Thank you!!! Hahahhaa yeah 🤭
That’s a really smart looking engine you have there. Great work!👍
Scotts Brithe pads are great to remove gasket remains without touching the metall.
Nice job. That car is gonna get a new life. What's the Km/Miles on the car. Had it run for long time?

Geweldige video weer, Joy!
Bedankt!! 😊☺️
👍👍good job
Really enjoying this build. I used to have a 360GLT miss that car 😢
look so good
Thank you 😁😊
Nicely done, impressive 👏
amazing video again. Cheers Hannes

@joy.vanhaelen haha yes, I get that 😄. I could make those same mistakes haha !

Full watch you done a grand job on the engine so far the detail in each part and cleaning process 👍
Thank you so much! 😄😊
I haven't seen an oil filter that tiny in years!
We zijn er bijna. Kan niet wachten op de eerste rit!

Pushrods

❤😊❤😊 hey cute 🥰 ur back yes 😊
