- Restoring a Volvo Amazon that has been sitting abandoned outside a workshop in Östersund, Sweden for many years. Now we give it a new life.
This is a Full Car Restoration split in to two parts, this is part 1.

Dad had a (66 or 67?) 122S modified for road rallies. Mid to late 80's back home in Pennsylvania. I'll never forget it. Thank you for the memories and can't wait to see the next video. You're doing great work!

Hi Hampus, love your work. Watching with my husband - we are nearly as old as this Volvo! I am aware of the dangers of breathing dust because I am a potter. I see you using your mask, but not all the time. Please keep your lungs safe from long term damage & wear that mask even if it's annoying. Bless you

Fantastiskt trevlig video! 1966 var jag fem år gammal, många år senare, runt 1980 köpte jag en Amazon 66' som vinterbil för 2500:- :) Senare hade jag även en röd 1970.
Att se din renovering ger nostalgivibbar som känns in i själen! Så roligt att se att det finns folk som ger allt för att återställa en fin gammal bil!

When I was in the "single digits old," my dad had a 1961 122s and it was the same color as the one you're working on. Boy . . . does this video and the color of your Volvo bring back good memories!

Very nice to see a channel with videos bringing old cars back to life instead of channels like whistlin diesel that just needlessly destroy classic vehicles. I'll never understand why videos of senseless destruction get millions of views but videos like this don't. Great work and can't wait to see the next video.
Top marks for a job well done. You were lucky that it was a good shell to start with that only required a minimum of welding. Nice bit of bodywork and if you do the mechanics to the same standard as the body it is going to turn out a smashing car. Unusual to find a car of this age that does not require acid dipping and only that small amount of localised blasting. Well done.

Back in the late 1990s, I worked for a Volvo dealer as a delivery driver, taking parts to repair shops. We weren't just a Volvo dealer either. We were also a parts warehouse, so we had all the stuff. I once delivered a fender for one of these cars to a body shop. Brand-spanking new. When I got to the shop with the fender and pulled it out of my truck bed, the buyer couldn't believe it. Turns out he asked on a whim and wasn't ready to believe we had the fender until it was right in front of his face.

Very impress! My first car was a 1969 Volvo 122S with a B20 Loved it!
All I have to say is "Wow!" You just earned a "Like" and "Subscribe". I'd say that about 80% of my TH-cam viewing is car related, and my favorites are restorations of old cars and giving them a new life. (As a Volvo owner I especially enjoyed this one.) I find so many TH-camrs put out "Will It Start?" videos just to get a video out but have no real love for the car they"re working on so to see how meticulous you are at such a young age is refreshing. Keep putting out quality and you"ll get the views. Well done!

Yes, it was driven by its original owner until 1987 when it was parked outside a workshop. Until I bought it in 2023.
Still, 36 years outside? Was it under a roof of some kind?

Nice. Pretty cool car. It's also interesting how in the 60s, most American cars were going full chrome and steel, yet this car was ALREADY using a lot of plastic and composites.
I hope you find some old Saab to fix sometime in the future.

Very cool restoration of what I think is a cool car. My folks almost bought one of these in 1966. They bought a Rambler American instead. Volvo was still an unknown quantity in California back then. Plus the Rambler had 232 cubic inch 6 cylinder vs the 108 cubic inch 4 cylinder in the Volvo.

Try using shims to fit up the body lines of the car so that you don't use so much filler. Your a great worker and I am sure you will just keep getting better.
Thanks. But it’s the wrong shape. I can’t fix that with shims. If I add shims, it will be wrong at the top or bottom instead. Same with the backside of the door. Can’t be fixed with shims.

It's looking fantastic so far. I have done several and have more to do. My advice/opinion if you care for it, is that you would be better coating the bare steel with epoxy first, then using filler on top. Most fillers are porous and even moderate humidity, if left in filler on steel, will cause surface rust pimples in the future. I have had to completely strip a custom trailer because of this and the steel was covered in it. I am impressed that you have done this properly, engine bay and all. Now you have the scary job... putting it all back together without scratching it..🫣 well done so far...

This and the Rover P5 are probably my favourite cars of all time (with the 1934 Ford Coupe in there somewhere),
The Amazon and the P5 look very similar, both look like they've had a roof chop, the stance is great.

It is a good quick job, but as an engineer and a person who has watched too many car paint youtube vids for some reason, I cannot overcome the fact the you used the filler technique to flatten out the panels...correct steps are strip the paint, hammer the panels slowly with special back support tools, make sure to minimize the amount of filler as much as possible where it would only appear to be 1% of the total surface area....then prime and paint. This way it will not fall off after two year in. But then again here I am a couch potato giving paint advice to someone who is actually doing something with their extra time. Well appreciated sir.
You can tell a good engineering design by how easily the object can be disassembled.

Undoubtedly, but, definitely, this isn’t a car . It’s a monumental landmark, from every corner, designed and constructed , to last forever, with regular maintenance .
I do like those old Volvo's. Always called the Amazon here in U.K. This one was in remarkable condition.
The flames on the front wing (fender) were a bit optimistic. The work was great to see and the paint looks better than new. Back when that car was about four years old, My friends and I used to work on cars at weekends. We didn't know much back then but soon learnt. Especially health and safety. Please wear dust masks when sanding Guys! It's nasty stuff. looking forward to the next episode.
