I like the way you explained this never seen it explained like that before, now the question is how do you fix it. I have a kid big strong kid but always is forward. Have tried every drill gadget videoed him etc and can't seem to correct it?
KB thanks for watching. Great question - hard to give a perfect explanation without a video but sometimes players respond better to the cue of, bump the pitcher with your lead hip after your front foot touches the ground. Shifting the hips forward makes the midline near the pelvis more in front of the sternum. Ive also used a long pool noodle holding it from the other-side batters box while they hit off the tee or take soft toss from a partner. I put the noodle just a few inches in front of the batters head from where it would be at the end of their stride. If they ram their head into the noodle I say, you just got your head cut off by the sword. Saw the highlight of your player crushing the ball to the wall in LF. Good luck to him, he's got some pop!
I Would love to send you my son's video, He started Junior College baseball this year and I think he is losing tons of power by being way too far out front, Also where are you located? Can I shoot you a quick video of him where should I send it.
Sure I'll take a look. I guess if you're comfortable posting it to your youtube site that would be fine but I also use a free app called, hudl technique. It has some slo motion, voice over, and screen mark-up features that allow the video to be sent over email.
th-cam.com/video/gAWNCnkFqzs/w-d-xo.html is one I just uploaded just feel he is so far out front and not even straightening his front leg, because he is so far forward he can very seldom lift the ball, usually hits the ball down. Thanks for any advice Coach Avery.
I tried to upload a swing of his batting lefty, He hasn't done that in a few years, but you notice his head doesn't drift in the lefty swing after heel plant, like it does righty, his back elbow doesn't fly up in his lefty swing and he doesn't jerk his swing with his front shoulder like he does in his right swing. I am considering having him try and work on his lefty the rest of this season (redshirting freshman year) and spend the whole summer trying to convert to the left side, you think that is possible?
Hi George. That could work, just make sure to mark the midline at the point of where the front foot lands after the stride. If the chest/sternum is in front of the midline (belt buckle) at the end of the stride they will probably be in a lunged posture.
Baseball Tips with Coach Avery got it thanks coach! I like starting them with their front leg locked out as if they had already landed, and have them just focus on back hip and hands to prevent lunging.. Keep the videos coming coach! Love them!

Coach Avery ! Hope you are doing well my Brother -Ben Garcia Hamilton 97’
Ben!!! Always great to hear from you.
So do you suggest standing next to the player with the bat in your hands and tell him not to let his chest go past the bat?
Thanks coach..
