Thank you so much I’m in a hitting slump right now and I know that I’m lunging forward but I didn’t know how to fix it and I didn’t know any drills to help fix it great video
Matt could you please make a vid on the follow thru? after contact w/ the ball.some break hands early some keep both hands on thru the entire cut. thank you kindly and Much Respect
Hey Matt where do you feel the load is it on your glute, when I first started doing these drills I felt it throughout my entire leg but overtime I just started feeling the load more on my glute. Can you let me know what I should be feeling and how to get palm up palm down more consistently thanks !!
This is a great video. If you watch Bryce Harper, you will see him do this every time he steps in the box prior to the pitch. It’s something that one of the great hitters practices before he swings.
I never thought of doing these drills. Or explaining how to convert the momentum to my son. Your videos have been super helpful in assisting my 7 year old in knowledge of the rules and explanation in how to hit. I'm no pro not even close but I can bat left and right handed. Left handed is as comfortable to me as right. I'm dominantly right handed as is my son. He wants to practice left handed. I don't want to discourage it. Do you have any advice in how he can practice it without losing his right handed swing? Any advice is welcome and helpful.
I'd be interested in seeing a video that describes the physical mechanics of hitting to the opposite field when looking for a pitch away or you've identified the pitch as outer third, as opposed to the more general idea/approach of having a swing that allows the barrel to work deep and provide greater coverage.
I’ve long been frustrated with my 9yo’s lunging, and racing to get it fixed as faster pitches and changeups come into the picture. Your video demonstration seemed to click with him. Thanks!
Matt If you ever read this - can you explain why Hank Aaron's - slow motion swing on TH-cam; has his back foot always up in the air when finishes his swing.
@@AntonelliBaseball if you could do a video of coiling during batting practice that would be soo helpful, I used to be good hitter then stopped playing for a few years and my problem now is leaning forward and timing 🤦🏻♂️
Nc Sate tournament for Dixie Boys (14u) starts tomar! Cant sleep cause my son gets the ball to start it at 1130 in morning against the team that won it and came runner up at World Series lastyear when 13! Wish us luck...hopefully get 4 inning and NICE lead to pull and save the pitches cause he only gets 8 inning fir whole tournament! Thing is we have hight that pitched Varsity this pastyear as 14 yearold freshman and two that threw JV...so mine is proud to be considered number 2! He knows after his HILL GAME tomar then he behind the plate and REST (lol) cause the other catcher sits low 80s but no off speed and need him in the middle when not catching Skyler! WISH US LUCK...are plans to maybe do some fall travel with this team...most talented group i have seen...can literally decide who behind plate and one of 8 pitchers for mound and let other 7 pull numbers 3 tho 9 out hat and play that position and not lose much with where they at...JUST HOPE its not to talented! Boys have came together having fun past 10 so days after playing against eachother all year! Sky caught alot smack after he took it to number one team from mound with 7 to 0 shutout two hitter (bloop and infield bad cakl by ump) so he deff has their respect!
Another important piece is the front foot landing. Those who lunge tend to land heavy. With these drills always stress that they should be having a soft landing akin to stepping on a pillow
So when you are doing this drill once you start striding out you are still thinking mentally to keep coiling your abdomen back until you swing then explode into the ball? Did I get that right
Yes, the drills are great and some of them work and some of them don’t as you know. For any hitting ailment what is the solution for what happens when you face a live arm in a live game? I can show you a player that looks like an MLB hitter in the cage and then everything completely breaks down when that hitter faces a live arm in a live game. You have them at your facility possibly. What is the solution for transitioning the hitter from the cage into a real game? It’s really all that matters right?
Noticing some similarities in what you are teaching in this video to another hitting teacher man. It's nice to see those that diligently study the swing of the elite arrive to the same conclusions. Thank you
Should a non-elite player use an elite player as a model? Which one? Barry Bonds, Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Joe Dimaggio or Ted Williams? Should an average athlete expect the same results as a "natural" hitter by using that natural's style and mechanics?
@@maxoblivionit just depends on the person. I followed teacherman’s principles in which nearly all MLB Players swing with. But I didn’t get good results because I already had a similar bat path. So when I tried to whip my barrel around more, it would just cause me to pop up or strike out. You just have to experiment, now, I try to “swing down” which is what bonds and ohtani both do, obviously they don’t actually swing down, but it allows their barrel to whip around tightly instead of missing and/or popping up.
@@ryanwilson6499 I guess my point was that maybe players at 10 or 15 shouldn't try to copy the mechanics used by pros. MLB players are world class athletes. Most 10 or 15 year olds aren't. Just an observation. I last played organized baseball over 50 years ago before the Internet and all of these "hitting gurus" were promoting their theories. The one real coach I had taught the old school Jeff Frye approach. Watch Pete Rose hitting from the left side to get the picture. Yeah, everyone is different so there can't be just one best approach. The simple thing that I figured out late in my playing days was to start my swing with the bat on top of my shoulder. I learned this by hitting rocks in my back yard. 😁 You know, soft tossing to myself like hitting infield practice. I spent hours in my yard smacking rocks all over the place. I developed a very compact and explosive swing. I wasn't big and strong but I hit some very long balls. I generated my power in my forearms and wrists. That's one of the few things I would teach a 10 year old. Bat on the shoulder. Hitting is a natural process and if you start your swing from the best position, you'll have a good chance for success. As far as swinging down or up goes, the fact is that every swing is down and then up. It can be hilarious to watch these gurus argue for their technique. Very entertaining. 🙃 And the truth is Ryan, a big part of hitting success is mental. That part of the process isn't stressed. When I was very young, I wasn't aggressive enough. I was calling balls and strikes for myself rather than looking for a pitch to hit. I was more concerned with not striking out and being embarrassed than I was with attacking the ball. When I figured out the mental part, I was much more successful and had a lot more fun.
@@maxoblivion thank you for the advice, I’ve heard soft toss is a great way to develop a swing. Manny Ramirez did it growing up and I’d say he was alright at baseball😅. I just feel rushed when I try to do it and never end up hitting the ball well. Any tips on that?
@@ryanwilson6499 I hear you. I tried a pitching machine a couple of times and hated it. I didn't feel in control and couldn't develop my own rhythm. I wouldn't use a soft toss machine. No need. If I was a coach, I'd give a kid a bucket of balls and have him hit them into a net or chain link fence. When you're tossing the ball up yourself, you're in control and you can create your own timing. When you're tossing the ball yourself, the natural thing to do is rest the bat on your shoulder with your top hand while tossing up with your bottom hand. That one good coach I had never had us facing a pitcher in batting practice. We would pair off and soft toss to each other. But, I would eliminate the other guy completely. Instead of smacking rocks in your back yard, you're smacking baseballs into a net. Worked for me.
Congratulations on hitting 200 thousand subscribers Matt!

Okay Matt it's time to start fall ball I really need some b-ball and softball practice plans please
Probably the single most important concept to hitting. Sets up the entire swing.
Coiling the rear hip it was a great drill how abt the scap load ?? Any drills
Matt, what's the home plate mat you're using?
I tried running the drill with the feet crossed while doing side toss and it really didn't work. Is this more of a T drill?

Thanks for the tip, but throwing in timing. When do you start coiling ? When the pitcher does what?
Depends on a lot of variables. Tempo of the pitcher. Hitters stance and how far they need to go to get to a good hitting position
