First Climb on Petzl Zigzag

  • Some clips from my first climb on a Petzl Zigzag. I was extremely impressed. I have been using a hitch climber system which is nice, but no where near as smooth and effortless as the Zigzag. The hitch climber was definitely good to learn beforehand, but I'm glad I have the Zigzag now.
    At one point turning the video, I discovered that simply pulling the rope with your hands was the easiest way to use the Zigzag. Please excuse me if I seem to be hinting that I am strong because of it, which I am not, the Zigzag just makes it so easy, I was extremely happy and impressed that I could just go barehanded without the ascender from then on.
    More videos to come. Thanks for watching!

    That’s the best way I’ve ever seen to run a zigzag

    get a foot ascender and knee ascender it will make it much easier. i actually used the same set up as you. just got my Haas knee ascender in today. can't wait to try it out.

    Could you make a video of your climbing rig? great video by the way!

    If you add a foot ascender to your gear, it should work without the pulley, it seem that you need tension on the rope when you grab it with both hands to pull your self up and the foot ascender should give you the tension you need.

    Tried this for the first time yesterday. Things awesome. So smooth. But ya gotta be careful on the decent, can easily scream out of the tree.. Definitely want some leather gloves for descending

    Basic question but how did you place the strap so well on this branch?

    So if you had to choose one method, would it be with the pulley attached to the ascender and pulling the rope or just using the doubled hand ascender, nice review

    Cool vid bro. I'm just starting to learn this stuff, have a bunch of nice gear I can use including a zigzag and just hung my first rope in a tree today. Seeing your video is perfect, just simple zigzag without extra gear to confuse my beginner brain. And playing around with it, seeing how it works in different ways. Thought I just had to figure it out and get the branches cut out of the trees....but this stuff looks fun, interesting.
    Thanks for the video

      That's pretty much what I did. Just changed things little by little as I got comfortable with the equipment. Zigzag is a fun tool. It simplifies things and keeps you safe.

      I got something better knowing Christmas is right around the corner it's the strongest mechanical device in the world made out of stainless steel midline attachable with a 360° tensioning for friction at the top arms with a leverage system that no longer hurts your hands descending your body weight.
      It's called The zrunner self rescue system

    Thanks for the video, what's the name of all that equipment and how much would I spend on it? I'd like to see you climbing from another angle. God bless you!

    Hello,
    What is the name brand, strand count and diameter of the rope that you are using with the zigzag?

    • @bizlur
      @bizlur  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      11.5mm Lava Surge rope from SherrillTree.

    • @bizlur
      @bizlur  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know how many strands. I think it's a double braid. On Sherrills site right now it says it's a "TEUFELBERGER LAVA SURGE ROPE 11.5MM". It's not Tuefelberger, it's my New England Ropes, I think they must have it coded wrong.

      Thank you. It looked like a 13mm in your video and I was going to see how the zigzag handleed it. On a different note, how is it holding up? Anything that you would like to say about the zigzag?

    • @bizlur
      @bizlur  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty well. I got it near the end of the season so it hasn't had too much use but it has already proven to hold up better than my previous rope, which was dynamic, purchased as my first rope to learn on.

    not only that he had top use his legs to wrap around the rope to get up.

    • @bizlur
      @bizlur  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When you are low on the rope, there isn't enough weight to pull the rope through the zigzag. This was my FIRST time using it, I was experimenting to see if I could use my feet to get enough pull on the rope to get it to go through. Now when I climb on it I just pull myself up, hold with one hand, reach below the zigzag to pull the slack through. Once you get to about 10 feet the weight of the rope pulls itself through.

    seems like youre getting nowhere fast with that pulley

    • @bizlur
      @bizlur  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, I no longer use that. Its good to have if I am showing someone else how to climb and they aren't used to hip thrusting to momentarily get your weight off the rope so you can pull up.

    • @kivaswander5537

      Brian Ripley seems like it would be worth using for position once at the top?

    • @showstopper540
      @showstopper540 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or possibly using another micro pulley or prusik to tend the hand ascender. Seems like it may work out pretty well tha way.
