    With no exaggeration, these are some of the best sounds I've heard in a youtube tone demo ever.

      @mrkite89 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Great tone, no doubt. But if you listen closely to your favourite albums you'll find that the guitars are much "smaller" sounding, way less bass and a bit more "air" than the tone recorded here: this "massive" tone is unusuable in a professional mix, because it will clash with bass gtr and kick drum, and you would hear nothing but mud. As a recording engineer, I find that miking the amp from a certain distance (anywhere from 15cm to 1.5mt or more, depending on the room and the rig) gives a much more "finished", mix-ready tone. Try it and see for yourself! ;-)

    • @continuum288

      @@mrkite89 I hear that.. Even if the tone is good from the source and miced properly, nothing some decent equing can't assist with as well.. As most would do that with just about any captured tone to some extent to fit into a pro mix.

    Damn....That 6505 sounds nasty af. Awesome job Kyle. I have to say, I am super excited about that cab. I have owned a few 5150/6505 heads and ran all through V30 loaded cabs. Those Sheffields sounded really good. The 6505 mid-range mess was tidied up very well by those speakers. That 6505/cab combo sounded as musical as the very best classic 5150 tones. The last riff in drop C tone sounded so close to the Burn My Eyes tone. It instantly popped into my head as soon as you started playing.

    Really awesome video and very well done! This is the sound and feel I remember when buying my first 5150 in the late 90s. While I'm not as heavy a player as yourself, I'm more hard rock and classic heavy metal, the tone and tightness sounds incredible. I've been waiting on the release of these to see if they would be like my original ones, looks like they hit the ball out of the park! Thank you for taking the time to make this video for us!

      @auntjenifer7774 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@bondalero0074😂 I'm pretty sure Peavey couldn't deliver on this amp because it was made in China but that China production is up and rolling they can deliver. Either way the USA factory isn't making any amps aside from maybe rack mount but I doubt they are even making those in the USA. Peavey is probably in more trouble than Dean guitars for example who have had bad press lately they are doing way better than Peavey for example. Good luck to em indeed but unfortunately I Don't see Peavey being on top again ever.

I dunno why I sold it off and in hindsight (like a lot of other things, lol), I should of held onto the sucker. The amp was pretty one-dimensional, but boy that dimension was all that was needed at that time.

    • @rocketpigrecords3719

      Not to be a dick, but how?
      I think people get this idea of Greenbacks from IRs, forums, or confusing it with a Vintage 30, which might as well be from Beta Reticuli in comparison.
      I tried demoing the Yo Bonermassive signature wah through a Suhr cab with a Greenback in it, and the toe setting...FARRRRRT.
      Put 4 Greenbacks in a 4x12, 100w tube head of choice , crank it & play death metal. They might not survive the session.
      Unless you're an "edge of breakup" boomer type player, Greenbacks are frankly kinda garbage, especially for aggro, high volume use.
      Peavey did have speakers with certain bogeys, G12T75, V30, and iirc something akin to an Eminence Legend, which might be closer to what you're thinking of.
      To give you an idea, Iommi went with H30 creambacks, higher wattage, but his habit was to turn everything full up, but roll the bass up to the edge of where the farting out began and back up a bit.
      That was a full stack, and 8x30w in theory it should have been 240 watts.
      Players abandoned the Greenback in droves until basically reading about Eric Johnson, who, btw, claimed to be able to hear the difference in 9v batteries, and hoarded the old mercury or whatever phased out type there was.

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was the thought behind the speakers. Higher powered greenbacks with more articulation

    • @rocketpigrecords3719
      @rocketpigrecords3719 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@belligerentamateur so, a V30 ish thing? I suppose those old Peavey USA speakers went away when they moved to China, I think I used to know the model name. Sheffield?
      Lol bit a rant I guess, last night was the night for it, too
      I dunno, you see this all the time. Whatshisface from Lamb of God used 59s for one album & a generation of metalheads discover why Larry Dimarzio whipped up the Super Distortion in the first place!
      Similar thoughts to your video on power amp (phase inverter akchyually) distortion.
      I suppose it's genre dependent, too, some DOOM lord has an old JMP he dimes into greenies with PAFs & sounds great
      When he plays it ;-)

    Your giddiness reminds me of the first time experiencing the 5150. It was early 1993 and a buddy had to drive to Dallas to get one, as it was the closest place at the time to central Arkansas that carried them. He played that thing for what seemed like hours, just grinning like the Cheshire Cat. He and I were probably the only ones grinning, considering a 120 watt tube amp was unleashed upon an Air Force dormitory.

    Great tones! I’m intrigued by your use of the term “fizzy.” I have an old Peavey 4X12, no idea which speakers are in there. I play through a heavily modded 1963 Bandmaster which has tons of gain. I tend to play it at low volumes so as not to upset every living creature within a quarter mile (especially my wife), and I get a tone I describe as fizzy until I crank it up. I’ve been thinking it was the amp, but maybe it’s been my cab all along.

    *Damn Kyle… I love the fact you got to try this amp out but I really enjoy your channel because you also play a lot of old school death metal or thrash metal type riffs. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Never boring man!*

    This sounds fucking killer. Never thought i would be looking at messing with some Sheffield speakers but I’m totally going to look into those I’m loving the tonal qualities of those. It’s got all of the definition and projection of a v30 without the raspy mid overtones and and barkiness. There’s something on the top end that I’m digging too where a lot speakers tend to fizz or get harsh. It bites but not obnoxiously so.

    Awesome sounding rig! Definitely want to see a shootout between the 6505 cab and Mesa 4x12 with this head. Need to see if the old pairing of Peavey head/Mesa cab is dethroned! Great content as always!

      I own a 280watt Mesa OS Recto V30 straight cab. And very doubtful, I also own other cabs including Peavey cabs. And the Peavey's just sound like a blanket is over them compared to the Mesa. Literally you don't need any boost with a 6505+ running through the straight cabinet, but definitely with the regular 5150/6505 to tighten up the looser bottom end.

    Been around amps since the early 70, s ok a oldster player! The New 6505 head and 4x12 with the Shefield spks are probably one of the best sounding big gain tones I ever heard ! Big thanks to Peavy and Kyle for letting them loose the us hi gain players. A must buy to start some crushing guitar playing thanks!

    I think what gets me the most is the note clarity. It's definitely good and saturated, but it's not mushy. Maybe it's the new speakers, maybe it's how you have it dialed in, but that was what really impressed me with all the different od's and pickups.
