It's unlikely that you can use all the performance the MT-09 has. You haven't mentioned full throttle redlining it at corner exit on track days. So, it must be looks and what other people think about you (perception). What's your perfect looking motorcycle? Harley Davidson Low Rider? Triumph X-75 Hurricane? Captain America bike? MV Augusta Brutale 1000 RR? BSA Goldstar? What perception do you want people to have of you? Cheery GoldWing rider? 1%er? Ducatista? You can be whatever you want. The MT-09 is a pretty hot bike, all in all.
Track? That's not an option for me. No I don't care what others think of me on my bike. I imagine others can't see me on my bike anyways for safety. I DO care what I think the bike looks like. Do you want to ride a bike that looks good to you? or what others think looks good? ---- Yes they can be the same, but I only care about what I like. I'm buying for me, not others.
It’s unfortunate that you’re not enjoying the bike as much as you thought. The new MT 09 is one of my dream bikes! If you want to do a giveaway I’m your guy 😂
@@HassanIsDriving is it worth the additional couple thousand in your opinion? I just started riding and have a MT-03. Got it for a great deal so I’ve been learning with that
Almost the entire reason I got an xsr900 is the sound. I heard the Daytona 675 for the first time and knew a 3 cylinder was my dream bike. Haven’t regretted it for a moment.
2024 Yamaha XSR900 is turning heads, making me look back when I walk away and I hate my life when I'm not sitting on it! Haha! 1500 miles in 7 days. Love it!
@@KirkKreifels Hope that you get to enjoy your bike more than straight lines around town/City. Perhaps, if you find twisty roads and go on day trips you'll be able to find pleasure riding the MT-09. You haven't done alot of distance with it to really get to bond and have adventures. :) I'm just saying. Safe ride! Make yourself happy ;)
I own a 22 MT09SP. Love it and all its faults and strengths. As a biker we are supposed to be rebellious and adaptive. I love the wind blast and challenging it, shifting my butt around on the seat as needed. At 15K miles I've yet to use the cruise control and never will. Using Motul 7100 oil and the clutch engagement is immediate and concise. Best wishes with your new bike, looking forward to seeing what you buy!
Hahah did you not hear that the tank pads were for the previous year? If I put the logo down, they'd look absolutely stupid since they don't match the new tank.
Kirk, that was the feeling I had when I was enjoying so many great Japanese motorcycles. I traded bikes almost every year, some year even own 3 to 4 street, track, dual sports at the same time. Every bike was wonderful but all were giving me that generic feeling. At the end of all those 25 years on 2 wheel, I fell in love with a Ducati 916. So much characters with this track focused machine. So addicting V twin torque, the Ducati's desmodromic sound, the fully adjustable suspension and the stares from other riders, and non riders alike. The Ducati 916 was a supermodel. If you have a chance, do a review on an Italian bike?
It sounds like you’d really enjoy a Aprillia Tuono 660 Factory. Little less power than the MT, has probably the best sounding twin engine, has all the tech the MT has. It’s technically a naked bike but has side plastics and a small windscreen, I actually went from the rs660 to the MT for the more comfortable upright ride but it was an amazing bike.
Having owned two different MT09s and 3 MT07s… you should try a well sorted mt07. I have a very well kitted mt07 I use for the track. It’s such a great city bike, back roads ripper, and actually damn fun at the track with a suspension kit, solid ECU flash etc. 270 degree twins are just 🤌 Little bit more of a raw visceral experience having way less tech, rowdy little twin engine, and it’s loud as all get out with a nice exhaust
The MAIN problem I see is that everywhere you ride is a grid. There's no abundance in fun twisties and changes in elevation. I can't imagine owning a bike in an area like that.
It's a good thing that you review bikes! I have one observation to make... The best thing about riding a motorcycle is flying through curvy roads. It's sooooooo much fun! Florida has very few fun twisty roads to ride on. You should buy a bike made for your flat and straight riding environment, maybe a twin cruiser. The MT09 is made for fun roads.
think youl regret it bro, iv owned alot of bikes but none have made me smile like the 2024 mt09 it's an absolute beast of a bike, personally ya want sound change da pipes to the toce system way more power and is just sexy. each to there own but ol never get rid of mine, they'll bury me with it
Finally got to watch until the end. I've bought a few cars that i thought i'd love. Bought an 08 Landcruiser (used) to replace my 04. After about 6 mos, decided I liked my 04 (100 series ) more than the 200 series, and sold the newer one. I bought a Mercedes wagon (used), but it was almost too nice (and definitely too low), and sold it. And I've bought and sold two (new) dirt/dual sport bikes, after brief ownership. Now riding a 'vintage' 'dakar' bike, from 1989. Love it, but eyeing something new to go along side it in the garage. Bikes are cheap enough to have a couple.
I bought my ‘23 MT09 Cyan last year from Power Lodge and I had my eyes on the bike for years. I love seeing it in the garage and wish it would stop raining in the afternoons so I could get out on it. It’s got much more power than I’m willing to flirt with but it’s an absolute blast ripping it on streets the way I have it set up. Best of luck on your new ride. I’m sure I’ll see you around! ✌️
2024 z900rs. Even the base model is well equipped. It's a 4-cylinder tune for torque. It's a pretty bike and you'll end up taking pictures of it. The new ZX6R might also be jam after testing out the zx4rr
Hey don’t feel bad, if you don’t like it you don’t like it. Frustrating as it may be a two hour test ride is not enough to measure if you’re going to gel with a bike. I have 5 brand new bikes since 2017. Two of them have lasted only 6 months before I traded in and lost a load of money. Thanks for your video, I think I will be keeping my mt07 for a few more years
Ever since I saw the video you riding the zx4rr, I knew it was only a matter off time before you decided to bite the bullet and get yourself one. If this indeed the case, congratulations on your new baby lol, if not good luck on your journey in finding that perfect bike Kirk 👍🏼👍🏼
I feel the same I purchased mine a couple of months ago. I've put 1200 miles on it. On paper it has everything electronics, cruise control, handles well. But it doesn't have the WOW factor when I look at it. Thinking of trading for bmw s1000r or ktm 1390
There's so much more to motorcycling than how the bike looks and what the exhaust sounds like. Try taking it to some decent winding canyon roads, that's where you'll appreciate good motorbikes. The MT09 is built to be great in the canyons and also to used on a daily basis in town etc. I think you need to think more about what you want a bike for.
Hi , I had a very similar issue. I bought a new triumph 1200 GT pro adventure/tourer . The engine came with the new T Plane crank . After a few weeks I knew I made the wrong decision. Great quality bike but the T plane crank has inherent vibrations at around 4200 rpm so at highway speeds of 65 onwards it was almost a vibro massage from the pegs to the handlebars. I woke up one morning and traded it on a new ninja 1000 sx. Butter smooth almost like my Tesla . Yes I took a big hit but now I just can’t wait to get on my ninja
Completely agree about the wind protection. I installed OEM mid windscreen, and now its pretty comfortable in 60-65mph range. 65-75 is manageable with light tuck. Without tuck, wind becomes uncomfortable. However, I love the sound and looks (even with windscreen). And, I love the available torque. I am still in run-in period so haven't crossed 5-6k rpm much. But even below that more than required torque is available.
I recently bought a 1st gen 2020 XSR900... Added Black Widow full exhaust and a few other mods. I've owned a dozen or so sportbikes, both twins and i4s, the XSR is my 1st triple, and to my ears at least, the CP3 is by far the gnarliest sounding bike I've ever owned. I'm absolutely obsessed with how it sounds. Could be the difference between the Kelpi and the Black Widow, but I've never heard the Kelpi in person so I can't comment. That being said, I LOVE my XSR, enough that I'm considering selling or trading it at a loss in a few months for either a new XSR or a new MT09 as they fix a few of the things that I don't love about my 1st gen XSR. Riding on the highway isn't exactly pleasurable since they're naked, but I've done around 1,000 miles of highway riding so far on mine, mostly cruising at 80mph. For me, it certainly isn't the most enjoyable thing being blasted by the wind vs fully faired bikes, but I look at it as sort of a trade off... Supersport bikes just aren't comfortable for me to ride anymore after some back injuries and other things, and all of the more highway oriented Japanese sport-touring bikes I just can't sell myself on. I have considered a ZX-14R, a little bigger, a little more comfortable that a pure supersport bike, good wind protection and absolutely eats highway miles, but part of the selling point of a naked bike is the limitations of top speed. I've have several liter bikes as well as a fully modded ZX-12R, and with my lack of self-control, I just really shouldn't be buying something like that again lol.
Agreed, I really enjoyed my demo ride, but I feel the same way when I think about owning one. The last bike I demo'd that weekend was a tuono. Between its sound and styling, the mt 09 sp couldn't compete.
@ilovemilkymoos Agreed, I rode 6 bikes that weekend, and the mt09 sp and the Tuono were my favorites. I just don't like the looks of the yamaha when I'm not on it. It's all little north of a $5k USD difference between the two. Like everything else, it's about what works for you and your situation. BTW, it was the base, not the factory.
100% agree with you. Almost bought a CP3 in the form of the XSR900, loved the looks. Ended up with the XSR700 mainly because it sounds better to me. Slapped on a Kelpi exhaust and boy does it bark now! Fast but not too fast. Also, started on a Grom. Something about going fast on a slow bike is way more fun than going slow on a fast bike. I think the XSR700 will be a part of my stable for years to come. Love your channel. Keep it up!
Excellent piece. Very well written illustrated essay that I'm sure will help anyone making a decision along the same lines. The background philosophy applies over many areas in life. You show how important it is to honestly examine what makes you happy about what you are doing even if it requires an admission that makes were made. Correcting them and moving on is the best policy! Thanks.
Each to their own bud. I had a 2019 R6 that was the love of my life but it just sucked riding it. Unless you're going full speed and acting like a racer it's uncomfortable, painful even to ride on the street at normal speeds. I thought I'd always have sport bikes because I've loved them for as long as I can remember but I test rode an MT-09 a few months back and I swapped my R6 for a 2024 MT-09 SP and I've never been happier on 2 wheels. Definitely follow your gut, go with what feels right and live your life the way you want to live it!
I've made many videos saying that the CP3 platform is not for everybody. It is fast and aggressive. But for a fast aggressive Rider it is an absolute dream bike. I have a 23 mt-09 SP and love every second that I'm on it. If you're the type to first power wheelie away from every light. This is the greatest bike ever made. It's all relative. It can be too much for others. And I'm over here always convincing myself that I don't need a ZH2 lol
I can understand it. Had a 2019 model for a year. Even though it has it's strengths, I began to hate the seating position, the suspension, the clutch, the fueling, the short wheel base quite soon. The looks doesn't attrac me either. Somehow it's still srtrange. Even in the 2024 model. It was the only bike I just put 3000 miles on in a year. Since 2020 I'm happy with a BMW F900R regarding any of those things. It' a sweet spot between commuting, touring, traveling, sport and still has a low price for that. I'm putting about 5500 miles on it having fun. But, everyone is different and has to find their own bike that makes them happy.
Been riding longer then I have been driving. Mostly Dirt. I just bought a 2024 MT-09 late July. I have 1300 miles+ right now. I like the bike. There are things I would change. A friend said I was a Old Man on a Young man's bike. Maybe he's right. This is my 1st full on Street Bike. I've spent significant time on a VZ800 & KLR650. I was selling both for a friend, but had them both about a year. I discovered I really enjoyed riding in the Street on a 78 DT400 I put together so in fear of blowing it up I bought a XR650L, which now has 10,000 miles on it, mostly road miles so I thought its time for a actual Street bike. I was drawn to the MT-09 because of its upright seat position and thought with a 3 Cylinder it would not be so "revy". I'm a touch off base there. Seems it does everything at 3000 RPM or higher. I'm a tool around kinda Guy and just like being out and about on 2 wheels. The Bike is not as upright as I'd like but I'm getting used to it. Its certainly not lacking for Power in fact it feels quite effortless which is good. I bought Mirror extenders so I could see something besides my Shoulders . Seat isn't horrible but I will probably get Yamaha's Comfort Seat. Not a lot of Swag out for this Bike yet but it's still a pretty new Model. I did put Yamaha's Grab Rail on which you can put a Rack like Gismo on as well as a Bucket but I have not gone that far. I did buy a Silver "Windscreen" but have not installed it yet. I like the Bike more each time I ride it and have no regrets. Will I keep it forever? No. But for now I will continue to ride it. For me, I'd like to sit more upright. I'd like a little more sound just so I am more noticeable, but from what I hear you have to Flash the ECU and the Check Engine light stays on. Can't have that so I'll stay stock for now. I don't need the Quickshifter, and won't be racing it. I don't mind using a Clutch. I have run up the Highway at 80 MPH and don't mind the wind, and the bikes feels stable. Its quite nimble which makes avoiding the surprise pot hole a breeze. Overall, I like it, and am good with how it looks. But I do need to put the Screen on. Get me a 7th or 8th Gear so I can keep the Rs down at 60 and I'm good. But really that's just sniveling.
I prefer no rider aids, went with the black 24MT07. Looks better than the MT09 plus huge cost savings. Great city bike and perfectly fine on the freeway. Wind at 100+ on any naked bike is very noticeable. 100%, always decide by looks. That is #1, gotta love how it looks. You're not crazy. Go look, sit and try as many bikes as you can.
Is it possible that maybe the Kelpie isn't the exhaust system for you? I was going to suggest the new R9 for the wind factor but then i heard you mention that you would have similar sound complaints. I am in the market for an MT-09 / R9 now.. mainly because of the tech and features but your right about the compromise factor kinda sucking.
Your blurred ending is a ZX - 6R. Anniversary edition i think. Nice bike. Always wanted a crotch rocket. But as I got older I realized they have way too much high end power and I would end up killing myself and/or constantly get tickets. Sportbikes have crap turn radiuses and you lean on your wrists to much for my liking. I am currently an MT-09 gen 4 owner and yes I completely agree that the wind you feel on this bike is stupid ridiculous, and the seat for now after about 2.5 - 3hrs on it starts to get uncomfortable. Those are about the only things I wish were better. Other than that, I get compliments on it occasionally. Yes it's not the prettiest thing ever, (only for the MT-09s gen 1, gen 2, & gen 3 is it the better Model. IMO. Us inline 3rs are a rare breed because we thoroughly enjoy the sound and torque of our machine along with the hooliganism it is known for. Again IMO. Good luck with your next choice for a bike. At the end of the day being a rider is the most fun you can have out on the streets. Ride safe & ride on Kirk. Duces.
Seems you loved the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR, but you liking it and wanting to own one might be a different thing. The Ninja really sounded great. Was a joy video to watch and listen to. Hope you find one that will check all your boxes.
You mentioned the Mx-5 Miata. That makes me think you should try a mt07 (or xsr700 if you like the looks better), a zx4r, a moto guzzi v7, sv650, triumph or Ducati scrambler. All those bikes have tons of character but not too much power to enjoy on the road. A lot of people like the mt07 better than the mt09 because you can max out the performance on the street without being too dangerous.
I think you should have bought yourself a CB500 Hornet or ZX4RR? But looks are one of the main factors people choose a bike for (apparently, as opposed to functionality). Also people research the sound before doing the pipe. So appearance and sound are things you should always check out before you buy to see if it's in your taste.
You’re making me reconsider. I was planning on financing the r9 and insurance right now they quoted $900 a month so I got a quote for the 24 mt09 and it’s 200 full coverage with payments being $250 which I can afford but I want a sport bike but can’t afford it I just don’t want to go through and experience what you’re experiencing. I currently own a sv650s and feel the way you do and I’ve put too much into it and it doesn’t run properly
I bought myself a gsx8r few days ago but was interested in mt09. Decided to go against Yamaha because they're so new that there was no deal off msrp, and also the power being too much for my use case (mostly commuting and weekend fun). My bike is very relaxed for the most part but when you ring it does 0-60 in low-mid 3 seconds. Maybe you should consider these types of middleweight naked or sports tourers that you like the looks of. On bikes right color and looks are very important as you stated in the video.
A few years ago I was in the market for a new middle weight naked bike. I narrowed my choice down to the MT-07 and the SV650 But since it was a large purchase I wanted to test ride the bike before buying, so I rented the MT07 first thinking I would love it because it looked so great on paper (even if I wasn't such a fan of its looks in person). And while it was a great bike, I never really felt that connection to it. So the next week I rented an SV650 and even though it was well used and worse for wear, I immediately fell in love with the bike and put a deposit down on one that day and have loved it ever since. Good luck with your search.
I had a 2014 fz09 and unfortunately it got stolen and decided to get a ducati monster 1200 and boy what a fun bike it is. I suggest you try one if you want a raw speed feeling. its a 2014 and they can be found below 8k around my area in the east coast.
Damn, this video really speaks to me, I'm currently looking to buy my first bike, and the MT-09 checks all the boxes, great looking/cruise control/electronic for safety/3 cylinder and the acoustic sound chamber....etc, everything was so great on paper But when I rent it and actually ride it, I found out the riding position and the seat is not great for long ride, and the clutch issue just like you mentioned, i can't confidently engage the clutch every time, and the fear is really made me feel this is not for me I really wanted to like this bike, it's got every spec i want, looks good, sounds great, but i guess just don't have the connection to this bike 😞
Im with you! This MT09 is a dream for some, and a bad fit for others. So great there is lots of variety --- this bike helped me know what's more important to me know other than a spec sheet.
Sounds like you want an adventure bike and completely away from the "sporty" type of bikes. I love the looks of the MT09 and Speed Triple RS. I can get away with long rides with no wind protection at all as well. I currently ride a N400 with lowered clip-ons and it's been great. Good thing is bikes aren't too expensive, so you can switch the flavor more frequently. :)
I had a 2024 MT-09 for just over 600 miles! I loved it at first but the more I rode it the more I hated it! The stock seat and comfort seat from Yamaha is uncomfortable for me after 1.5 hours to the point that it was painful. Also, there were times when I didn’t have full confidence in the front end on some corners. I ended up getting rid of it and I absolutely love its replacement. It’s much more comfortable than the MT-09 was.
100% Kirk is getting a ninja zx4rr screamer. I think if he gets a parallel twin he’s going to be just as disappointed when he gets used to how mild the power comes on
How about getting a Ducati Monster, great styling, has a Twin engine. Or the 2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 801, I really dig that style. OK, i just checked, doesn't seem to be available in the US, but they have the 401
Riding in the Florida summer surrounded by flat roads and senior citizens wouldn’t exactly get me too excited no matter what the bike is. But yeah not a fan of this bike, just get the ZX-4RR.
@@KirkKreifels I ride in Florida, St Pete area... I ride all over the state though. The summer weather certainly sucks, and the bad drivers... But there are lots of awesome places to ride. Certainly not like when I was riding in Arizona for years, but if you get and put some miles down, there's some pretty cool roads here. Blasting across some of Florida's massive bridges can be pretty epic as well, especially during sunsets etc.
MT09 and SP are the rational choice until recently for me as well. They make sense and present a great value and quality. That being said, I ended up buying the 2024 KTM Duke 990 for that wow factor and the sound as it matches the feeling I am expecting when walking into the garage and riding it
My son has owned many cool bikes( turnover factory 1100, dorso dura 1200 etc). We'll when he let me ride his MT10 I drove it 1 mile, turned around and gave it back. Way too brutal for me to even feel safe. Street nakeds go to full torque at the release of the clutch. Power wheelies with each gear. Yeah that's great. But not a safety feature I like. TEMT10 then nearly killed my son. I traded my Z900 RS for this reason. I chose the ZX4RR . Now this is a bike that is nimble, controllable , high tech, good looking and is in total control. Most liter bikes or near are insane and will put you in jail or the cemetery.
I have had 3 motorcycles brand new in the pass year. From the spring of 2023 to now. 2022 Yamaha R7: Pros : light , agile, wheelie monster, lots of low end torque, an looked good. Cons: power was made for down low so higher up in revs was very under whelming, the suspension was very basic, seat sucked, to light to get on hwy or interstate because it would blow you all over the place. I sold that bike at 700 miles. Actually got all my money back on private sell. 🤪 2021 gsxr1000r 100th anniversary edition: Pros: lol i loved this bike, the paint job, the sick exhaust notes especially taking off banging thru the gears at low revs sounded like a exotic car, the power on tap , stable in corners an on hwy with inspired confidence, easy to work on just few bolts an the whole side fairings came off. Cons: seat sucked lol , the power was to much at times an would have me death gripping the bars, eat thru tires like they were candy, the screen sucked an it wasn't a tft either, lil bit more viby in bars then i liked, my palms would go numb after riding more than hr. An my kneck hurt aswell. I purchased the bike at 4k miles an sold it at 8k. I lost out on maybe 1500-2k. Now i own a 2024 mt09 same color as you an i love it. It checked all my boxes. I was between the 2024 gsxs1000 an the 2024 mt09 an actual got to test ride both back to back an i couldn't tell a huge difference in the power. The gsxs1000 is like 476 pounds so tgat extra 30 hp wasn't that noticeable an i came from a 200hp bike so after test riding them an going home i chose the mt09 the next day. The gsxs1000 is a nice bike but it lacks alot of features in the user friendly department. No tft, no cruise, no imu. No gismos an gadgetz you do get a nice bike tho if none of that matters but to me those did an the weight was insane to me. My gsxr1000r was lighter 😅. I love the sound of the mt09 . .... so yes i have went thru your situation. Youll take a lose trading but private sell maybe not so much. 🤷🏻 i buy my bikes out right tho. Just know if you get a full fairing bike your asking for more expenses, replacing fairings after rocks eat them up, an the will, more expensive on insurance, the ergos suck, an there not good if you ever have a packpack. Idk if it was just weird timing or just me but after 800 mile mark i got a update thru the app an i felt like the bike is a totally different bike, more torque, more power, throttle smoother an clutch felt better. Could just been me tho.
I don't see how the R7 is too light to be ridden on the highway without getting blown all over the place... I've had at least 8 bikes that weigh pretty much exactly the same as the R7 does, and have done tons of highway miles with zero issue. The R7 weighs about the same as the MT09, XSRs with weight reduction, or any 600cc supersport really... Which all do perfect fine. *shrug*
@apexcobra.official that's your personal opinion. I have mine, an just because something weighs the same doesn't mean it's going to act the same on the road. Your not looking at the frame lengths, an rake etc .. but that's cool 😎
@ZukaBro Your comment was literally "it's too light to go on the highway." You didn't mention any reasons other than it being too light, which... I mean whatever. I wouldn't ride an R7 anyway, so it isn't like I'm hugging the thing's nuts or something anyway. The MT09 I would, tho, considering I have an XSR900 and they're similar. Considering the 24 MT09 as the next bike tbh, it's in probably the top 5 contenders list at the moment.
Came from a gsx-s750 2020, somewhat unintentionally put it up for trade. Ended up with a z900 2023. More or less the same bike with a couple smaller differences
Official Yamaha Europe, has plenty windscreens . We good here with accessories . Sp model maybe? Trade it to triumph 765rs or 2024 aprilia tuono 660 factory
everything you mention you don't like is why all of us are looking to buy this bike. Everyone knows the MT7 and MT9 drive like this so i am surprised you bought one as there are plenty of tame machines out there.
So, you purchased the: Kawasaki Ninja ZX4RR. I don't blame you ---- if my arms were longer I would do the same. OR, if they would come out with a more upright model of the 400 4 cylinders ---- I would be in. Meanwhile for me this Fall ( hopefully arriving in USA ): CFMOTO 450 CL-C cruiser ---- parallel twin, 270° crank, belt final drive.
Just adding my 2 cents here, hearing all your points from the style which you dont necessarily like, to the sound and character of the engine, the excess of power that you dont necessarily enjoy as stated in the Miata example, it all just points that you were very heavily influenced by all the positive reviews this bike had and you bought it not necessarily because you liked it, but because everybody else did, and it just made practical sense price wise Not saying that you should swap it to something else as you may grow into it and start liking it sometime down the road, but you should really look into the Aprilia RS660 or Tuono if you want to go Naked, or the Suzuki GSX-8S and R models
To each their own....... I love the triple sound.... waiting with baited breath for the R9. I think the lesson here, which is tough with motorcycles.... test drive a few before making a decision.
Exactly. Sadly, unless you can make a special riding event where you can test multiple models, you're out of luck. Most dealers won't let you ride whatever you want.
Someone else who thinks the CP3 isn't the best sounding thing in the world? really? I thought I was alone. I love the way the CP2 and CP4 sound, but the triple doesn't do it for me.
I first bought a MT-07 then bought the 09 to commute 70 miles each way to work. While it was great on the freeway it just wasn't as fun. I rode it less and less then finally sold it. Kept the 07 and I'll never sell it in the fleet.
Just mod it! There's so much you can do. Or just get an SP then... I'm still waiting for mine and I already have 3k worth of mods for it in the garage.
I'm sorry to say that but everything you describe is contrary to yamaha selling points of this bike being the dark side of japan, a hooligan, master of torque and it sounds to me like you bought this bike for wrong reasons as a compromise rather than buying what you really want. Yes this bike is crazy, yes it loves when you open the throttle and wants to dislocate your shoulders when doing it, it's a great bike but what's the point of having it if you just want to sound good and bop around the city. Bikes are not suppose to be logical choice, buy something that makes you smile even if it's stupid. Hopefully you will find a better match for you. And regarding your remarks on suspension, coming from factory it's completely out of whack, with it properly set I haven't noticed any of the issues you mentioned. I've put 3k miles on mine and the clutch works perfect, the bike does not like to set of from low RPM in my opinion you're not giving it enaugh throttle when setting off.
As a passionate 2020 SP rider (70‘000 fuss-free kms on the mountain passes, race tracks and on the German Autobahn with a semi-tall windshield, on tour can cruise at 150-180 km/h all day with racing leathers and an aerodynamic Pista RR) it is hard to come across this kind of report on the gen4 MT09 which definitely will be replacing my current tuned beast (with 118 whp and 181,5 kgs wet) next year, of course again in SP guise 😎🔥🏁 Ah yes, I just unsubscribed from this channel 😅✌️
That MT does nothing for me, and I’m a huge fan of naked bikes. My first one was a used ‘82 Seca 650 with shaft drive, after taking the MSF course on their Honda 250s. What about a Ducati Monster? Those are beautiful.
You're already riding one of the best bang-for-buck bikes on the market. If you want better suspension and better looks, you're almost always looking at a higher-end sportbike. Ducati SuperSport should be on your short list. Suzuki and Kawasaki 1000s as well. However, there is no perfect bike. Just for street riding... I've got the 2024 XSR900 & R1300GS. Polar opposites. High-speed interstates and 2-up riding; the BMW. 100 deg days and want a nimble beast on the back roads; the Yammie! ;-)
It looks and sounds great to me. Perhaps you can buy a 2nd bike, while keeping the subject Yamaha. If you're going to be "fickle", perhaps do more research and visualization to be sure your feel/emotions will last longer. next time.
That's hilarious, I changed my SV650 for the mt09 because I love its sound so much 😂 about the look of it yes I agree, but not really a bike you take for that
Those stoopid bar end mirrors ! i hate those things with a vengeance , even in your view half the mirror is obscured by your wrists , and you have to make a determined effort to look at anything !taking your attention of the road ! ,the single most dangerous accessory you can add , put decent mirrors and it will change the look immediately ! and you put the exhaust on it , did you get it tuned to the exhaust ? doesn't sound like it !
I like the mirrors. I'm happy to swap a little visibility for aesthetics. No tune on the exhaust since at the time, there was no tune for the kelpi on the 2024 model. Vcyclenut just put up a tune for the kelpi exhaust---but I'm ready to move on. Cheers.
You're crazy if you think the MT09 is a bad purchase. Its honestly one of the best 'bang for buck' bikes on the market for so many reviewers. You might have more fun on an MT07 If its too much power for you and you think you're not getting the full enjoyment out of it. Such a shame because myself and many others wish to be in a position to own a bike as crisp, sexy and smooth as the 2024 MT09.
Complains that the sound doesn't put a "grin on your face" with an aftermarket pipe........ but yet, wears ear plugs. After a Rotary and a v4 two stroke, an inline triple 4 stroke is one of the best sounding bikes on the planet..... but personal preference is personal I suppose.

Yamaha offers a full touring package for it, screen, bags, comfort seat and even heated grips...not that you need those in Florida
Almost the entire reason I got an xsr900 is the sound. I heard the Daytona 675 for the first time and knew a 3 cylinder was my dream bike. Haven’t regretted it for a moment.
xsr also looks better, especially in blue :)
@@mnap89absolutely. I hadn’t even considered getting a naked bike until I saw this one in blue.
Happy for you!!! Triple sings to some, not to others.
2024 Yamaha XSR900 is turning heads, making me look back when I walk away and I hate my life when I'm not sitting on it! Haha! 1500 miles in 7 days. Love it!
Yes with a seat conversion the xsr is pretty
@@KirkKreifelsto be fair it’s pretty compared to the mt09 in general. This is coming from an fz09 owner
Owning a 2023 MT-07...the sound is deep, the vibrations are real...speed...not fast but not slow lol
When i saw your tank pads upside down i knew you not right guy for that byke 🤷🏻♂️
Hahah did you not hear that the tank pads were for the previous year? If I put the logo down, they'd look absolutely stupid since they don't match the new tank.
@@KirkKreifels i did
Kirk, that was the feeling I had when I was enjoying so many great Japanese motorcycles.
YES! Honestly the MT07 XSR700 look and sound right. I look huge on the MT07 though lol
The bike for me that you speak of as far as tickling my fancy is the mate black with gloss black and red 2024 Ducati V2. Just bought it 2 weeks ago.
That'll do!
I’m going from a v2 panegale to this one. I want a daily rider on highway and street. I miss my old mt07 so can’t wait to get the mt09
think youl regret it bro, iv owned alot of bikes but none have made me smile like the 2024 mt09 it's an absolute beast of a bike, personally ya want sound change da pipes to the toce system way more power and is just sexy. each to there own but ol never get rid of mine, they'll bury me with it
Finally got to watch until the end.
Be safe neighbor!
Thanks for your video, I think I will be keeping my mt07 for a few more years
Honestly think the MT07 would be more fun for me too... Maybe the XSR700 ?
Ever since I saw the video you riding the zx4rr, I knew it was only a matter off time before you decided to bite the bullet and get yourself one. If this indeed the case, congratulations on your new baby lol, if not good luck on your journey in finding that perfect bike Kirk 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks! I think you'll be having fun with my upcoming videos :)
Never a mistake buying a motorcycle, but a reason to buy another.
Excited to see more motorcycle action from the Kirk Kreifels
6:09 MT10 does seem a handful but if you want to try and tame to beast, it can deliver.
My brother Kirk welcome to Kawasaki family and in the 40th anniversary!!! Congrats and Let’s go 🎉!
Tuono 1100 or 660?
@@ilovemilkymoos 1100
@@robertbarbaree4190 Hardly a fair comparison? 117 bhp vs 175bhp. $17k AUD vs $30K+ AUD.
Keep it up!
Thanks mate! Yes I agree the cp2 sounds better than the CP3! Love the looks of the XSR models too! Hope I get a chance to ride the xsr700!

Exactly! Well-said my man. It's GREAT for some, maybe many, just doesn't make me feel euphoric.
I rode both a mt09 sp and mt10 sp. I fell in love with mt10, sound power was and chassis was intoxicating. Mt09 was bleh to me.
Ninja 400 or zx4rr
This is how I felt about my GSXS-1000GT except I didn’t like the high rev power band and crazy weight.. bought a supermoto instead and i’m in love!
You're correct! Find the bike that sings your soul's song.
I just bought the same bike at power-lodge, i got rid of my fat boy 114, you could trade back and get it, they listed it for 11,995.
I saw your old bike there! MT09 is an alien vs a fat boy!
@@KirkKreifels 😂😂😂
That’s bike ownership in a nutshell. More than car owners, bike owners flip. Or just end up with multiple. Get a Moto Guzzi!
That's odd man, to each their own....I absolutely love the looks and sound of the bike! I'll take it off your hands!
Bro , which brand is that exhaust in this video? sounds pretty nice
Duces.
Thanks mate!!! Happy the MT09 is right for you. You're close with the ZX-6r... stay tuned!!!
Seems you loved the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR, but you liking it and wanting to own one might be a different thing.
The Ninja really sounded great. Was a joy video to watch and listen to. Hope you find one that will check all your boxes.
Thank you mate!
I knw you saying that it’s not the bike for you but I have to admit that shyt sounds beautiful af on this video 💯🔥😂
In Matt black the MT-09 looks way better.... And i an addicted to the three cilinder sound....
Thanks for sharing! Good choice mate.
I had a 2014 fz09 and unfortunately it got stolen and decided to get a ducati monster 1200 and boy what a fun bike it is. I suggest you try one if you want a raw speed feeling. its a 2014 and they can be found below 8k around my area in the east coast.
That monster is a baaaaaaad machine!
Damn, this video really speaks to me, I'm currently looking to buy my first bike, and the MT-09 checks all the boxes, great looking/cruise control/electronic for safety/3 cylinder and the acoustic sound chamber....etc, everything was so great on paper
But when I rent it and actually ride it, I found out the riding position and the seat is not great for long ride, and the clutch issue just like you mentioned, i can't confidently engage the clutch every time, and the fear is really made me feel this is not for me
I really wanted to like this bike, it's got every spec i want, looks good, sounds great, but i guess just don't have the connection to this bike 😞
Im with you! This MT09 is a dream for some, and a bad fit for others. So great there is lots of variety --- this bike helped me know what's more important to me know other than a spec sheet.
What about the gsx8r? Do you think that’s more of what you are looking for?
It's possible that could be the perfect bike. Twins with 270 crank sound great, and have an addictive torque burst.
You went from a grom to mt09 lol. You get used to the wind also. What made you want this bike? Not the 3 cylinder or the nakedness?

I had a 2024 MT-09 for just over 600 miles! I loved it at first but the more I rode it the more I hated it! The stock seat and comfort seat from Yamaha is uncomfortable for me after 1.5 hours to the point that it was painful. Also, there were times when I didn’t have full confidence in the front end on some corners. I ended up getting rid of it and I absolutely love its replacement. It’s much more comfortable than the MT-09 was.
Thanks for sharing! What did you get instead?
@@KirkKreifels I traded for a new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS.

How about getting a Ducati Monster, great styling, has a Twin engine. Or the 2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 801, I really dig that style. OK, i just checked, doesn't seem to be available in the US, but they have the 401

It is really cool!!! It just doesn't do it for me. The park ranger was drooling over it for 20 mins haha.
Riding in the Florida summer surrounded by flat roads and senior citizens wouldn’t exactly get me too excited no matter what the bike is. But yeah not a fan of this bike, just get the ZX-4RR.
Hahahaha. Yes it's tough to get excited to ride --- However the scenery can be quite beautiful at slower speeds. MT09 doesn't like slow haha

Blasting across some of Florida's massive bridges can be pretty epic as well, especially during sunsets etc.
How fast does it go in first gear?
MT09 and SP are the rational choice until recently for me as well. They make sense and present a great value and quality.
That being said, I ended up buying the 2024 KTM Duke 990 for that wow factor and the sound as it matches the feeling I am expecting when walking into the garage and riding it
YES!!! Your motorcycle should make you FEEL alive (riding it or not).
@@KirkKreifelsbuy a Harley if you want to be a poser
2022 Yamaha R7:
Pros : light , agile, wheelie monster, lots of low end torque, an looked good.
Cons: power was made for down low so higher up in revs was very under whelming, the suspension was very basic, seat sucked, to light to get on hwy or interstate because it would blow you all over the place.
I sold that bike at 700 miles. Actually got all my money back on private sell. 🤪
2021 gsxr1000r 100th anniversary edition:
Pros: lol i loved this bike, the paint job, the sick exhaust notes especially taking off banging thru the gears at low revs sounded like a exotic car, the power on tap , stable in corners an on hwy with inspired confidence, easy to work on just few bolts an the whole side fairings came off.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that headlight is horrendous for me the XSR 900 looks better
I agree. The XSR looks the part from the front. The seat is ugly but that can be fixed!
@@KirkKreifels Agreed, they fix that and it's on its way 🤙
I prefer my street triple 765 rs, super comfortable and amazing handling. I have had so many bikes and it takes time to find what works for you.
everything you mention you don't like is why all of us are looking to buy this bike. Everyone knows the MT7 and MT9 drive like this so i am surprised you bought one as there are plenty of tame machines out there.
You don't know until you've spent good time in the saddle.
So, you purchased the: Kawasaki Ninja ZX4RR. I don't blame you ---- if my arms were longer I would do the same. OR, if they would come out with a more upright model of the 400 4 cylinders ---- I would be in. Meanwhile for me this Fall ( hopefully arriving in USA ):
CFMOTO 450 CL-C cruiser ---- parallel twin, 270° crank, belt final drive.
How you buy it and not like the looks?
Because I thought I would enjoy the rest of it ... Big mistake. Now I've learned
Just adding my 2 cents here, hearing all your points from the style which you dont necessarily like, to the sound and character of the engine, the excess of power that you dont necessarily enjoy as stated in the Miata example, it all just points that you were very heavily influenced by all the positive reviews this bike had and you bought it not necessarily because you liked it, but because everybody else did, and it just made practical sense price wise
Not saying that you should swap it to something else as you may grow into it and start liking it sometime down the road, but you should really look into the Aprilia RS660 or Tuono if you want to go Naked, or the Suzuki GSX-8S and R models
Sounds great man! Don't over think it. Jeez
Maybe the new gsx8r would be a good fit for you. Or a ninja 650 since you were leaning to the sound of a twin.
As a passionate 2020 SP rider (70‘000 fuss-free kms on the mountain passes, race tracks and on the German Autobahn with a semi-tall windshield, on tour can cruise at 150-180 km/h all day with racing leathers and an aerodynamic Pista RR) it is hard to come across this kind of report on the gen4 MT09 which definitely will be replacing my current tuned beast (with 118 whp and 181,5 kgs wet) next year, of course again in SP guise 😎🔥🏁
Ah yes, I just unsubscribed from this channel 😅✌️
That MT does nothing for me, and I’m a huge fan of naked bikes. My first one was a used ‘82 Seca 650 with shaft drive, after taking the MSF course on their Honda 250s. What about a Ducati Monster? Those are beautiful.
They are beautiful those monsters...
100 deg days and want a nimble beast on the back roads; the Yammie! ;-)
The XSR is beautiful!
Do not go to ZX-4R right away. Try other bikes in the class too: GSX-8R, Daytona 660, CBR650R, maybe even R7 but I would not go for it.
been considering the puig windscreen myself im nearing 6000 miles on my 24 mt09
Motor cycles are emotional atleast in the US. I had to change my wife's bike, cause it wasn't the right one. Gl on your search
Thanks mate.
It looks and sounds great to me. Perhaps you can buy a 2nd bike, while keeping the subject Yamaha. If you're going to be "fickle", perhaps do more research and visualization to be sure your feel/emotions will last longer. next time.
Too much Research landed me in this Yamaha.
I think the XSR700 would be the perfect bike for you👍🏼
That's hilarious, I changed my SV650 for the mt09 because I love its sound so much 😂 about the look of it yes I agree, but not really a bike you take for that
Those stoopid bar end mirrors ! i hate those things with a vengeance , even in your view half the mirror is obscured by your wrists , and you have to make a determined effort to look at anything !taking your attention of the road ! ,the single most dangerous accessory you can add , put decent mirrors and it will change the look immediately ! and you put the exhaust on it , did you get it tuned to the exhaust ? doesn't sound like it !
I like the mirrors. I'm happy to swap a little visibility for aesthetics. No tune on the exhaust since at the time, there was no tune for the kelpi on the 2024 model. Vcyclenut just put up a tune for the kelpi exhaust---but I'm ready to move on. Cheers.
Honestly think you wouldve loved the Tenere 700. Dead sexy and you can enjoy it away from cars and far from florida drivers.
In California, a bunch of us have modified pipes and have no problems just saying
Install the Akrapovic carbon full exhaust system then get it tuned by vcyclenut.
TL;DR the thing that prevented him from enjoying a great bike is a $20 piece of plastic that hasn't come out yet.
I don’t like the placement of the side mirrors.
It's the better bike, but I tested the Kawazaki Z900 and the looks are better, the ride is comparible, but the weight is 10% more than the MT09.
I think that Kawi messed ya up lol, it happens! 4RR is special in this day and age📢
