If you soak the bulkier seeds in water for a few hours before you plant them they’ll pop out of the ground like daisies. Ex. Corn, beans and peas. Also in autumn before the snow comes if you cover your garden with your chickens leavings your tomatoes will explode the next year. My mom did this
You are quite talented as a chicken "vet". Sometimes they can be pretty resilient; we had one a fox tried to get we were sure wouldn't make it but after 6 weeks of doctoring she was back in the flock. 2024 should be an exciting year for you all.
So sorry about losing Uni and Finn, you loved them and gave them a beautiful life..... hope you find peace and keep raising more animals ❤am glad your year turned out great and you had a good harvest 🎉🎉🎉 things will get better, the soil will improve and Kaja is cute 😊
Incredible 2023 year in review video! So much loss, yet so much accomplishment. Thanks for sharing your amazing journey with all of us. We have high expectations of fantastic footage from the 'Stead in 2024. Wishing a Happy & Prosperous New Year, to Allegheny Homestead! 🐔🐤🌾🌿🍅🎊
So happy you liked it! 💕 It was a very tough year in a lot of ways, but there were so many good things that happened! We're really anticipating 2024 and what's ahead for us! Hope you have an amazing 2024! 💕❤
This is the second video that I see from you guys. Awesome content, but damn Unie left us too darn soon. 😢 Puppy is super cute so that makes up for it a little.
One or two of the other homesteading channels put down diatamaciamacious earth each time they clean their coop before spreading out the hay. it seems to help in controlling the mites (this is second-hand knowledge that I mentally store away until the day that I have my own chickens). 😊💜
We actually ended up finally getting rid of the mites by sprinkling ag lime on the coop floor every time we change the bedding... and it has worked wonders for us. I haven't tried the diatomaceous earth myself yet. That's in my back pocket if we ever need a new solution! Thank you 💕❤
I don't reply often to videos...but your videos are special. I live half the year in your "neighborhood". The other half of the year I have a foot stuck in California still. I'm slowly making my way back east to property that has been in the family for over 253 years.
Aww, that makes my day for you to say that! ❤ That is going to be such an amazing return to your "roots" to hold on to that legacy! We are planning to do the same by moving to my husband's family homestead property of 5 generations if everything goes as planned.
You're welcome! Just remember it has to be ag lime (not pelletized lime) for it to work. Plus, I can't imagine chickens eating little lime pellets would be a great thing 😅
You are an amazing, determined couple and I love watching you try new things. Any woman who cries over the death of a chicken is a fellow soul sister.🩷 I had a Norwegian Elkhound named Bandit many years ago. He was extremely intelligent and I still miss him. I wish you only the best in the coming year and can't wait to see what you will share with us. Blessings, happiness, laughter, and love from South Carolina!🥳❣️
Aww, thank you so much, Kelly! 💕 The relationship I had with Uni was something I never expected with "a mere chicken." I never knew how special chickens could be. I am always impressed with how smart and great Kaja is with the homestead lifestyle. I felt like we hit the lottery with her 😂 They are truly wonderful dogs! I hope 2024 is a blessed and fantastic year for you! 💕
We have Salmon Faverolles (the white mixed with black roos), and then their offspring mixed with Orphingtons are all black and one white roo. Hope that helps! I LOVE the Faverolles roosters, but they are all very good boys. ❤
Sorry you lost your your chickens and your chick my history with Hawks isn't good either what I found out if you have to use chicken wire over top of the area that you use for their run is the only way to stop the Hawks or the buzzards from killing your chickens you can get chicken wire 6 ft High and you run it over top of your fenced-in area it's a little expensive but your chickens are safe you have to prop it up about every 6 ft 8 ft at the most I use this 6 ft 8 ft tall metal fencing post that's the only way I've been able to stop my chickens from being killed skunks will kill also
I like this idea! Thank you, Susan!❤ Luckily, since we got Kaja, it seems she has run off the hawks. This is the first year we haven't lost a chicken to raptors! We'll see if that continues to be the case!

Thanks for the tips! 💕
When I say a few hours I mean it depends on how dense it is but I do it overnight
You’re welcome and good luck 😊👍

Thank you, Richard ❤ Wow, that's amazing she survived that! We're really looking forward to next year! Have a wonderful New Years!
Yes sprinkle DE in the coop ,will keep mites away. Omgosh,I'm tired just watching you guys, keep up the good work, you're doing great!
Thanks Joy! 💕

Your channel is interesting and fun to view because of the content, short clips, great background music and quality editing. Blessings to you.

Thank you! ❤ Not a day goes by that I don't miss Uni 💔 Kaja certainly has helped with the emptiness Uni left behind. ❤

I'll add the ag lime to my list of chicken info that I'm mentally storing. Thank you!

Add bonfire ashes to the soil 😊
From NYC ❤
Thanks for the suggestion, Sara! ❤
Welcome to West Virginia 😂💕
put netting over your chickens fenced in yard
Those damn hawks! Why did they have to kill Uni.
The hawks are relentless. Uni is sorely missed 😭 ❤ Good news is since we got Kaja, we've had no hawk attacks. Thanks for watching!
What breed of chicken is that? I have a rooster just like him but don’t know what kind he is. I love him.

You should always separate the mama and her chicks from the rest of the flock.
