Yeah 90s/early 2000s Lisa was great. Especially when she was paired up with Homer. But just like Jerkass Homer, Lisa became a lazy device whenever the writers wanted to get on a holier than though soapbox.
The girls been through a lot. Her family is constantly on the edge of stability. Her mother can barely give her any guidance as a woman because she's constantly trying to wrangle her husband and only really fills the roll of stay at home mom which is basically the opposite of Lisa's goals. Her father is an alcoholic, lazy, accident prone, lightning rod of chaos. Her brother is basically a Loki variant. Her sister is a mute forever a baby except in flash forwards but also a diabolic mastermind. And the town she lives in has a median IQ of 90 and is consistently either on the edge of collapse or a study on the stupid surviving despite the odds.

Holy crap this episode changed my life I remember when I watched this when I was like 10 wishing so damn hard that I could do this, i was even annoyed that the bath in my house didn't work anything like a floating pod back then I still remember my first ever float back in 2015, I was literally so hyped to try it that day It was almost like Christmas, because I had waited so many damn years of my life for that moment I am so grateful for this episode getting me fascinated with floating I still remember that evening when I watched this episode on an evening after school on a Friday lol good times. If you haven't tried floating holy crap you are missing out
I always wondered if Homer’s experience was real or whether it was a dream. How did he land up back at the hippy lady’s place after being carried away?
Nya, I think it is much more interesting as a hallucination because a wild attraction is the kind of thing that Homer expected to experience and his brain would create. You would think Homer would have a chocolate world type hallucination (as in some other episode) but from Homer's point of view the sensory deprivation chamber is similar to a roller coaster wagon, so it makes sense.
Yeardley was hilariously great as Lisa being Homer and Dan performance as Homer in the tank was so funny especially his freakout inside of it and his version of "Witch Doctor"...Ross Bagdarsarin Sr. would have been proud.😊😊

Lisa gets a lot hate but in these early episodes she had such great self reflection moments.

The power of the mind is incredible. Now that I'm learning to meditate I really comprehend this profound sequence.
Look on the bright side, Homer, at least it wasn’t boring.
Homers tank being nearly destroyed makes you think of how such a scenario would play out in a Final Destination film
Probably close to the tanning booth scene would be my guess
